Is Europe the centre of physics? We look at the Large Hadron Collider

If particle physics is your thing, then the Large Hadron Collider represents a huge victory for Europe as well as particle physics.

There seemed to be many years ago, a brain drain between Europe and the U.S. with the obvious Albert Einstein in the 1930’s and the Wehrner von Braun in the 1940s this carried on through to the 1990s.
But if we look to the present day, there is no doubt that Europe, in the centre of the science world, especially CERN. With the Europeans taking the lead in building the LHC, throwing in $6 billion, but according to MSNBC the U.S. only contributed just over $500 million.

France is home to the ITER fusion research centre, and also could be to another fusion project the HiPER laser-fusion facility. However, in Washington, politicians decreased their physics research by $94 million, although some funding has been restored, a lot of positions were lost.

We like this one that you are about to read, CNET has reported about a test that could prove something. They are basically reporting the latest to find out of the Internet can or indeed will break down under the immense strain of mass consumption of streaming video, and yes we are talking about the Olympics.

This is an opinion set by Brick Eksten who is the president and CEO of Digital Rapids, he says:

“We’re going to find out whether the Internet is going to melt under the weight of video in a couple days,’’ he told Between The Lines this morning.

Based in Markham, Ontario, Eksten’s company is providing encoding, streaming and management systems to provide live streaming of the 2008 Olympic Games to Internet audiences in China, working for CCTV; you can see where we are going with this. NBC has plans on streaming 2,200 hours of live competition in 25 sports.

Selling eight million Apple iPhones and not ten

Apple iPhone Sales Target
Some people love a brand and then others hate it, when it comes to Apple selling ten million iPhones as they said they will, some people will love it if they fall short and only get eight million. The Apple Blog explain why selling only 8 Million iPhones won’t be a big deal.

They said “Now, never mind the fact that Apple still sold over 1.7 million iPhones last quarter. That number was down from the previous quarter, but the previous quarter was the holiday quarter; making a direct comparison, well, pretty much worthless for mostly obvious reasons.

And just yesterday, MSNBC’s Gary Krakow said in a video that Apple will need to license RIM’s Blackberry OS or Windows Mobile for the iPhone in order to gain market share in the business world. Gary says that Apple needed to do this because, in a nutshell, while Apple has done well in the smart phone market as a whole, they haven’t done well with businesses, and in order to do well in business they have to adapt a competitor’s OS. Is this guy serious? Never mind the fact that Apple’s iPhone roadmap event in March outlined the new business-friendly features coming so to iPhones near you, which should make the iPhone more attractive and more useful to big businesses”.

In a nutshell the only people who will really care about whether Apple misses 10 million iPhones sold are those who want to see Apple fail. Read the article on The Apple Blog.

Official: Knight Rider TV Series airing Wednesday nights this Fall

Well for those who did like the pilot of the new Knight Rider series you would have been pleased to know that just a few days ago we said that NBC might just run a TV series of Knight Rider. Well NBC have officially announced that the new series will be airing this Fall on Wednesday nights.

It was hoped that Knight Rider would be on the Friday night slot, however the pilot episode did not do that well to warrant wasting a good Friday night slot. Only time will tell if the new Knight Rider series will become a popular TV show, however I do not think that it will ever be as good as the original.

Knight Rider given greenlight for a weekly series by NBC

April 1, 2008

Recently NBC aired a TV movie special of the new Knight Rider show; however it was not sure if NBC was ever to commission a weekly series. NBC must have come under a lot of pressure from viewers who enjoyed the TV special as it now looks as though NBC will give the Knight Rider a weekly series.

Although the movie was not good, maybe because the car could act better than the actors, it had a plot that was left open for an ongoing series. NBC confirmed that the ratings were just about good enough to commission a new series. According to sources Knight Rider might get a Friday night timeslot.

It seems as if actors Justin Breuning and Deanna Russo, and also Val Kilmer returning as the voice of KITT. I hoped that they would replace those wooden actors, one thing that does not need changing is the cool looking Shelby GT500KR.

India’s Tata Motors ready to sign deal with Ford, for Land Rover and Jaguar
After months of if and when it will happen, seems like Tata Motors is all ready to sign a deal with Ford, to take over Land Rover and Jaguar. The official announcement of this deal will be on Wednesday from Detroit, the headquarters of Ford Motors.

It is thought that the Indian motor company will pay between 2 -3 billion U.S. dollars, it seems as if the deal is being understated. This is a very tense time for jaguar as they are about to release a new car, however it seems that Tata was more exited over the release of their Nano rather than the new Jaguar.
