Sony PS3 Trophies: What games do you want support for?

July 9, 2008

Sony PS3 Trophies
When we first got the firmware update 2.40 for the Sony PS3, it was nice to see the XMB improvement and other features but the new feature I really wanted to test was support for Trophies on the Playstation 3.

With Super Stardust HD the main game for collecting trophies just now, it was a bit of a let down and at the same time exciting to want to get started at collecting them.

The PS3 has so many current games and future games that need Trophy support, these include MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Confrontation, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2, NBA 09 and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

We know that Warhawk will be getting a patch to give the game Trophy support, but all this waiting is no fun when you can see a nice icon on the PS3 dashboard called “Trophies”.

The main game I want Trophies for is Call of Duty 4, we all love moving up the ranks and aiming for prestige 10 but Trophies will add another dimension to COD4.

While we know all games in the future will have Trophies, what current and future games do you want Trophy support for the most?

Sony PS3 Trophies: is your game in this list?

If you are an owner of a Sony PS3, then you will know that it is a big day for us, as the new 2.40 firmware update has adding the much anticipated Trophies feature. However; do not get too exited just yet, as most games do not yet support this feature. Some games will already support the feature, but one game, Super Stardust HD will require you to download an expansion pack, called the “solo pack”, this will then be followed by the “team pack”. These patches will feature Versus Match, Co-Op, true 5.1 orchestral soundtrack, split screen, trophies and ship editor. The free 4.00 patch will give you 17 trophies; you have to buy the additional expansion content to get these trophies.

Games that already support PS3 Trophies are LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, NBA 09, as well as SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Confrontation. We have also learned that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, BioShock, Burnout Paradise and Warhawk will get a patch to allow you to use the new “Trophies” feature. Ok a couple of these games are great and gamers will be exited to know that they can now use the new trophies in one of the above games, but come on guys where is the Trophies Support for Call of Duty 4. Ok so we know that Call of Duty 5 is released in November and that will get the new Trophy Support, but that is going back to the WWII story, boring.

If you would to read a hands on review about the Sony PlayStation 3 Firmware Update 2.40 then read here. The new Trophy feature will use a four tier system, bronze, silver, gold, and platinum, these trophies will be assigned by each games developer and not by Sony. The bronze medal will be awarded for competing an easy feat, and gold for the very hard ones. Once all three have been completed, you will then receive the platinum medals.

For a full report on the Trophies Feature visit PS3 Daily.

PlayStation 3 firmware update v.2.40 July 2: are you ready

July 1, 2008
Filed under Gaming, Sony Playstation 3

Firmware update v.2.40 has to be one of the most anticipated updates for the Sony PlayStation 3, and it will have enhanced community features. We spoke a few days back about a few of the features, one of which was XMB™ Access In-Game for Easier Communication with Friends and Trophies, a New Ranking and Rewards System for PS3™ Gamers. The greatest news is we will see this fantastic new update on July 2.

Sony PS3 update 2.40 will enhance the way in which PS3 gamers play and interact with one another, as it will add improved IM. It is great to see that SCEA are delivering on their promise to give us gamers new features that helps bring users closer together.

With the 2.40 update, PlayStation 3’s community and ingame experience will be upgrades and will give you much more than you have ever had before, like XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) access in-game. This will allow PS3 gamers to connect with each other, and other gamers will then be able to utilize other XMB features seamlessly. Other great features include being able to earn Trophies, so gamers will be able to tout their accomplishments via profiles. This feature is great, as users are able to compare their skills to other members within the community.

The Trophies feature only works for a few games at the moment; these include BUZZ Quiz TV, LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm, Pacific Rift, NBA 09 – PS3, PAIN, PixelJunk Eden, Resistance 2, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation as well as Warhawk.

Senior Vice President of Marketing and PLAYSTATION®Network, SCEA, Peter Dille, has said Today’s PLAYSTATION 3 experience has evolved significantly from what we debuted at launch, and the 2.40 firmware update will drive the PS3 community experience forward at a time when the platform’s momentum is stronger than ever, with the launches of several recent blockbuster titles and other exclusive content on the way.”

Sony Playstation 3 Exclusives: Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet and Killzone 2

May 21, 2008
Filed under Gaming, Sony Playstation 3

The Xbox 360 has had a great time at the top of next-gen games choice, having started many months before the Sony Playstation 3, the 360 had time to build up a massive collection of video games and also release budget titles as well. When the Sony PS3 was first released it had a very small collection of games all at full price, while the 360 had much cheaper games in its collection, so its not surprising that the Xbox 360 looked so much better. Other than Blu-ray and RROD problems, the PS3 did not have much going for it in the short-term. Now that we are in 2008, the games lineup for the PS3 looks really good for the rest of this year and 2009, it has now been proven that being first out the door with their next generation games console, has not helped Microsoft in the long-term and only benefited it in the short-term.

The Sony PS3 looks to be the better positioned console now and not only the more stable hardware, but also a machine that games developers will be able to produce video games with a lot more thanks to the Blu-ray discs and the Cell processor. Sony have just announced the line up of its highly-anticipated exclusive software, the games line-up will include more than 15 games across all PlayStation platforms. The PS3 will be getting big games like SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Confrontation on September 16, 2008, LittleBigPlanet in October 2008, and Fall 2008 will see NBA 09, About BUZZ! Quiz TV, MotorStorm Pacific Rift, Resistance 2 and finally Killzone 2 in February 2009.

Many Xbox 360 gamers are coming over to the PS3 for different reasons and one that I have heard from several people was about paying for Xbox Live when the PS3 gives PSN for free. It’s not a large sum of money for Xbox Live and you do get a lot for your money, but some gamers still like the idea of getting it for free on the PS3. The PLAYSTATION Network community has seen massive growth and has 8 million accounts registered world wide, its members have made more than 140 million downloads to date. PLAYSTATION®Home will only increase the popularity of the Playstation 3 as it will be integrated into many other services and games.

Sony PS3’s Motorstorm 2 Debut Trailer: chaotic racer heads to the jungle

Motorstorm 2 Debut Trailer
This is the debut game trailer for Motorstorm 2 on the Sony PS3, I loved the first game and this version takes us to the jungle for some monster truck fun and a lot more. While the trailer looks extreme, we will have to wait and see if the gameplay lives up to the trailer.

The graphics will be gorgeous and while we have heard Xbox 360 owners say “I hope Motorstorm 3 comes to the 360”, I doubt this will happen as we heard Sony brought the makers of this game after motorstorm was such a big success. Watch the debut trailer below.
