As fashion models try to squeeze down to a size zero, the computer giants are also joining in the craze, Samsung have announced their new ultra-thin laptop and hopes to push Apple and HP off the top slot of the world thinnest laptops.

It seems everyone is at it, slimming down was hot news with the television manufacturers as well. But Samsung stole the limelight by unveiling the X360 it the IFA in Berlin, the X360 is not to be mistaken for the Lenovo’s X300 range. The Samsung X360 model weighs in at just 1.27kg, which is a lighter than the Apple MacBook Air which weighs in at 1.36kg, plus the X360 has a 13.3 inch screen.

Not only does this mean machine look and feel fantastic, the X360 is reported to have 3 USB ports, a 34mm express card slot, a built-in HDMI connection and VGA output.

If we take a look inside the X360 we find an Intel Centrino 2 processor, 128GB Solid State Drive (SSD), Bluetooth 2.0 EDR, 02.11a/b/g/n wireless connectivity and a integrated 1.3 megapixel camera, not forgetting the Ethernet socket and 7-in-1 memory card reader.

Samsung tell us that the X360 is capable of lasting 6-10 hours on a single charge, when we asked when we can get our mitts on one of these, they told us that it’s expected to be from September, unfortunately price was not available, as always we will post this information when we get it.

According by information given by LG “3G embedded features combined with WLAN 802.11 b/g and 10/100 Ethernet for stable and fast connections means users can communicate and share information any time, any way, any place.”

LG have also told reporters that the netbook will sport a massive 80GB hard drive, and it’s rumoured that the netbook will be powered by an Intel Atom Chip.

Excuse us for the shortage of information, the minute we get more details we will pass it straight onto you.

Apple’s range of laptops has been using the Core 2 Duo chip and it has certainly been doing the job very well. However Computer World has asked what Apple will choose to use next once they feel that the Core 2 Duo CPU has outlived itself.

Apple seem to launch new products very quickly, so it will not be that far away until we see a new MacBook and MacBook Pro on the market. Will Apple decide to stick with the trusted Intel Core 2 Duo or will the new laptops demand something different. Read more

Star Wars TIE Fighter webcam

How about this for a webcam then.
This TIE Fighter webcam from Wesco Limited looks unusual compared to standard webcams, but is ideal for all those Star Wars enthusiasts.

This gadget may look a little silly on top of your laptop or monitor, but would be great for those of you who like to keep in touch with fellow Star Wars fans.

It has a built-in microphone, which is an added bonus. That means audio and video from one unit. It also has two Led’s on the front located just under the cam that may help the webcams performance in low lighting, and even plays sound effects from the Star Wars movies.

I’m not a Star Wars fan myself, but I thought that this gadget really does have a fun factor to it.
Rumoured to be available for about $40

Asus Eee PC 900 from Orange for £25 per month

August 16, 2008 by Peter

A number of operator’s have been offering up laptops when they take up a broadband account. Orange has been offering this deal for a while as well, but they are now to offer the Asus Eee PC 900 laptops.

The Carphone Warehouse have been offering the Webbok, but Orange have gone for the Eee PC option and this might be a great move from the UK mobile network as they know how popular Asus Eee PC laptops are.

This new deal is available from today; the offer is called “Internet Everywhere” which is their mobile broadband service. What you get is an Asus Eee PC 900 16GB laptop as well as a dongle for just £25 per month.

For those users who sign up will get the plug-in option icon 225 modem, there is a UK download data limit of 3GB per month. This deal could prove very popular for Orange, one they hope will be better than the Webbok option from The Carphone Warehouse.

Orange have also hinted that this could be the first deal of many like this, but will they keep offering Eee PCs or will they go for another option. That could be all down to how popular the Eee PC 900 deal goes.

Acer Aspire One with Bluetooth and more RAM

We keep seeing Netbooks making big changes in both design and the technology inside. The Eee PC 701 was great, but many improvements have been made since the release of this UMPC.

Forget all that emptiness around the keyboard and screen; the latest Netbooks use every bit of space to give you the most from mobile computing.

While the average computer user will be more than happy with his or her latest mini laptop, some users like to change things. This is where the modder comes in.

This is the Acer Aspire One and it has been revamped to include more RAM, a hard drive upgrade and a miniscule USB Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR adapter under the palm rest.

Some mini laptop owners will wonder why people even bother, but some may answer, “Because they can”. Have a read of this latest Mod here or view other laptop news.
