Cash for Clunkers Program 2009: Overwhelming Response

According to John Fryar at TimesCall, it seems that the Cash for Clunkers program that the Federal Government launched last Friday has been received really well by the Public in Longmont Colorado, and the computer system that the car dealers have to use to file for certification for the program has crashed multiple times already due to high demand. Under the Cash for Clunkers program, people with older SUV’s, Cars and Trucks will be eligible for credit towards a newer more fuel efficient vehicle of up to $4,500 off the price. Read more

2009 Hyundai Genesis rear-wheel-drive sedan

This is the 2009 Hyundai Genesis rear-wheel-drive sedan that made its debut in 2008, and this car should give the features of a $60,000 premium sedan for half that price.

Hyundai Motor America said that the Genesis engineering benchmarks were Lexus GS, Infiniti M, and Mercedes E-Class, although the Hyundai Genesis will be competing for customers with cars like the Pontiac G8 and Chrysler 300.

The Hyundai Genesis is going to shake up the market for near-luxury and large sedans. This is thanks to the Genesis providing the perfect combination of luxury, performance and value for money.

Some big spenders should not be put off by the smaller price of the Hyundai Genesis, it can certainly contend in luxury features.

The high-tech equipment includes: electronic active head restraints, a 500-watt 17-speaker Lexicon audio system, radar-based active cruise control, adaptive headlights, XM NavTraffic and electronic stability control.

Other luxury styling in the Hyundai Genesis includes: console lid surrounding the driver, leather-wrapped dash & door panels, cooled & heated seats, and a steering wheel that stays cool to the touch in extreme sunlight thanks to an ultraviolet reflective wrapping.

Hyundai i800 full-size van: on sale in Europe in late June

May 9, 2008

When it comes to full-size passenger vans in Europe it seems that only a few companies have a decent choice to choose from, while in the US they have a huge choice of these vehicles to choose from. However; from June drivers in Europe will have the opportunity to choose the Hyundai i800, well those in the UK will. There are a total of eight seats this includes the two three-passenger benches at the two rear rows as well as the all important driver chair and the passenger seat beside it.

This huge van is powered by a four-cylinder 2.5 Liter CRDi diesel engine which has a combined fuel economy figure of 33.2 mpg. Do not expect much from the Hyundai i800; it is in fact a pimped-up van with a few extra toys thrown in to the interior to make life a little more comfortable. Unlike a van thought this passenger vehicle comes with coil-sprung rear suspension which gives a softer ride, the design of the i800 is a little les intrusive than a van is also.

The Hyundai i800 well be a great vehicle if you have a large family or you and a few work colleges need to get to the airport in a bit more comfort than a minibus, and one thing is certain, the U.S. market can’t wait to get their hands on the Hyundai i800

Ford’s Microsoft Sync-like technology: going to KIA & Hyundai

May 6, 2008

Microsoft has teamed up to bring what they call a “music and information system” to Hyundai and KIA cars sold in North America by 2010, now this sort of technology has been exclusive to Ford in the past with their Sync gadget, although it’s not being called Sync (it sure sounds similar).

Microsoft and Hyundai Motor Group have setup the Automotive IT Innovation Center, with Hyundai Motor Group adding $166 million and Microsoft investing $113 million to this project. Bill Gates has personally met the South Korean President to talk about the level of involvement from companies in his country. We also hear that Gates will be signing the agreement with Hyundai in Seoul. While the first product to be released in this partnership is a “voice-controlled system linking mobile devices to car stereo systems”, we also hear that in the near future, other products will be released that has multimedia and navigation features.

The first product will also feature remote firmware updates and this makes things so much easier, and less costly for manufactures. The real question here, is how comes Hyundai needs Microsoft for getting music into cars, when iPods and iPhones can be added very easily or are we missing something?
