Microsoft Worldwide Telescope just launched
If you love galaxies, exploding stars, exotic nebulae and basically anything to do with astronomy then you will really love the newly launched Microsoft Worldwide Telescope. The new WorldWide Telescope from Microsoft is a free tool that puts together images from the best ground and space based telescopes in the world and collections include pictures from the awesome and well known Hubble and Spitzer telescopes oh and of course the Chandra X-Ray Observatory.

All this and so much more is just a click on the mouse away for all you amateur astronomers, the tool which is web based and allows you the user to zoom and pan around the planets and even trace their locations in the night sky. There are some pretty cool things you can do such as see the X-ray view of the sky, cross-fade into the visible light view and zoom into bright radiation clouds plus you can even discover the cloud remnants of a supernova explosion from a thousand years ago.

If you want to use the system just click the link below, to use this all new system you will need to download WorldWide Telescope from the internet and just so you all know it only runs on Windows operating systems. WorldWide Telescope is a great tool for educational purposes which will indeed inspire young people. The new WorldWide Telescope from Microsoft is not the only a tool for astronomers to explore the night sky from their computers, do you remember when Google who are Microsoft’s rivals launching their very own Google Sky which is an add-on to Google Earth.

Microsoft Worldwide Telescope system requirements are as follows - 2GHz or faster processor, 2GB of RAM, 1-10GB of free disk space, Graphics card with 128 MB RAM or 256 VRAM, Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista, Net connection and Macs must run Windows OS.

Google Earth Plugin: infuse maps and web apps with 3-D geographic views

May 29, 2008 by Daniel

If Google Earth was not big enough, it has now been given a boost in its reach thanks to a new Google Earth browser plugin and API. This new interface will allow developers to use the features of Google Earth without having to run the client installation and that enables them to infuse 3-D geographic views into Web applications.

Many developers already know how popular Google Maps has been, many use it in their applications and computer users see Google Maps everywhere online and offline on weather channels. This new API and plug-in is aimed at making Earth as popular as the Maps service which is said to be integrated into over 150,000 websites.

The API has some great features and these include support for switching to Google Sky mode for high-resolution imagery of stars, planets and galaxies. The ability to view the thousands of existing 3-D buildings or add a developer’s own 3-D models. Support for manipulating KML and the 3-D environment to create polygons, lines and place marks. A JavaScript API to enable rich Earth-based Web applications and the ability to embed Google Earth inside any Web page with only a few lines of code.

We would imagine that Google Earth’s API will be used on a lot of real estate sites for 3D views of houses. Are you a developer and do you plan on using the new API and plug-in? You can get more information on code.google.com

Google to Chrome will it kill the user love?

September 5, 2008 by Nikki

The simple word Google and everyone knows what you are talking about, everyone loves to Google-it! But as other technology companies start moving in on the consumer love, is the love for Google fading?

Technology inspires enthusiasm amongst millions of consumers who love the products that companies like Apple, Nintendo and Sony bring into the market. People like something for nothing and that’s why we have been drawn to Google, we have Google Docs, Google Earth and now Chrome. Another draw is privacy between Google and its user, but is it all getting to much?

Google’s Eric Schmidt said earlier this year he wants the user to be able to ask the question “What job shall I take?” or “What shall I do tomorrow?” or and Google will know you so well that it will give you the answer. But is Google turning into a dominant media giant taking on companies like Microsoft and lose its familiar grounding and user love?

Well we have been waiting all day and now it is finally here, the download for Goggle Chrome, the new web browser from the search engine giant. Google Chrome is a web browser with a difference; it combines a minimal design while using sophisticated technology to help make it safer, easier and faster.

Google know what users want in a browser, which is why they have launched a beta version of a new open-source browser: Google Chrome. The world will now see what kind of a job Google can do in the web browser industry.

Although Chrome is open source, Microsoft must still be feeling the pressure. Google Chrome will have to prove itself against Firefox; this is the standard that most web browsers need to live up too.
