Facebook users will have to change to the new site

September 12, 2008 by Nikki

If you are a regular facebook user, then you will already know that the facebook site gave you an option to go with the new facebook or stick with the old, basically we are all going to have to go to the new site.

Over one million of the user signed a petition against the sites controversial redesign, but that facebook have over 40 million members, so, it’s not really a huge percentage. 30 million users have already changed over, Mark Slee the facebook Product Manager said although some users will be uncomfortable with the changes over time they will appreciate the advantages that the new design and feature it has to offer.

Not only has facebook had a facelift, they have also design a very slick, intuitive site dedicated to the iPhone.

Will you boycott Facebook over new design?

October 1, 2008 by Mark

Are you one of those members who will boycott Facebook on October 18 and 19 because of the sites new design? Well apparently 2.7M users are being told too boycott the site on these dates.

There are apparently 2.7 million supporters who oppose the sites new design and it seems the two-day boycott will make a great point. The group is called “1,000,000 against the new Facebook layout”, and it seems that it has become very popular indeed, and many have been asked to stay OFF Facebook during the dates given above.

This must a big deal because it is not only the Facebook group that is backing this, there is another group called “Petition Against the New Facebook” which so far has 1.6 million backers, there is another group called “I hate the new Facebook” which has 1.5 million supporters.

Will you boycott Facebook over new design? Please get those comments coming in, we really want to know what you think.

If Scrabulous goes from Facebook, will you miss it?

Scrabulous Facebook
Most people that use Facebook are doing so to keep in contact with friends and family from all around the world. But some also go to the social networking site to play games regularly.

Scrabulous is a game that is used by millions of Facebook users and this Scrabble knockoff has attracted the attention of Hasbro who own the Scrabble game.

If Scrabulous is removed from Facebook, how would that affect your time on the social network?

It’s a shame Hasbro could not find a middle ground with Scrabulous. The Facebook game has around 513,000 people playing it everyday. Maybe Facebook should share some of the revenue with Hasbro for the advertisements viewed while people play the game.

Hasbro have filed an intellectual property lawsuit against the Scrabulous creators. Facebook have forwarded a takedown notice to Scrabulous and expect the appropriate response from them.

It now looks like Scrabulous will be taken down and no petition groups will stop that.

Facebook social network security mishap after update: Did you find loophole?

March 25, 2008 by Mark

Facebook privacy
The security on Facebook is quite embarrassing when you think about it considering people were able to view other people’s personal photos that they posted on Facebook user profile pages, completely circumventing the recent upgrade to the site’s privacy controls.

Facebook should never have a security lapse because people go to this social networking place for peace of mind when on their, this is bad really considering they have only just beefed up their privacy options.

This was all discovered by a Canadian computer technician called Byron Ng, and it was verified by the Associated Press. This loophole allowed Ng to look at private photos of Paris Hilton which is bad really because I guessed she thought it would be private.

A Facebook spokesperson has said that this bug has now been fixed after only an hour of them being alerted.

Please let us know if you have been in this situation?

Virtually Knife Facebook Users: Shank no more

Virtually Knife Game Facebook
Social networks continue to become more popular everyday and games on these networks are also becoming a great way to interact with friends and family.

So why would you want to knife someone in your contact list? This is just what users did with a controversial computer game called Shank. You were able to virtually knife one another.

Shank would show on a user’s Facebook profile as a small black bladed knife. You would then be able to shank your friends. Now Facebook has removed this game from their social networking site.

With the knife problem highlighted in the news more now than ever before, it is obvious why this game should not be on Facebook. Anti-knife crime campaigners have been condemning the application since its release.

The web still gives a lot of freedom to people but it’s amazing how stupid programs like this still get released and used by thousands of web users.

With 80 million active users on Facebook and third-party developers building new programs for Facebook everyday. This will not be the last weird program we get to see.

Did you use Shank and if so, what did you think of it?

INQ1 Phone: Facebook integration, Skype functionally

November 6, 2008 by Peter

When the first range of Skype phones were launched they were a bit basic and not that nice to look at. Well as with all early ideas, things get better as time goes on, and this new INQ1 Phone with its Skype functionally and Facebook integration is a great step forward.

Here we have some great images for you, thanks to Engadget. When looking at the INQ1 is, it does not look like anything spectacular, but it is only when you take a closer look that things get better. The phone has a 3.2 megapixel camera, but the old design lets it down a little.

The INQ1 is not about its looks, but rather about its software, like the full Facebook integration and Skype functionally. The phone also has some other great software features, such as eBay tracker and Windows Live Messenger.

British court clears Facebook man harassing his ex-girlfriend
A British court has cleared a Facebook man of harassing his ex-girlfriend on the social network site. Michael Hurst was accused of harassing Sophie Sladden back in January, while on Facebook he sent her a friend request, this will then allow a user to view the persons profile.

Ex-girlfriend Sladden thought that Hurst was trying to intimidate her as he had already received a caution from police. Hurst had this to say in court “DJ Chris Moyles had 1.5 million Facebook friends.” He then added “Do you think he knows them all intimately?”

However the court has told Michael Hurst not to try and make contact with Sophie Sladden again.
