Intel Core 2 Duo Processors
When looking at new laptops my processor choice has been Intel Core 2 Duo for a while now and also the best battery life you can get.

Today we hear things are about to get much cheaper for buyers of Core 2 Duo products, Intel announced big price cuts last week and this worked out at a 31% price drop on the top-end E8500.

With money getting tight for a lot of people around the world, its good news to hear that Core 2 Duo processors have got cheaper and lets hope we see this discount passed onto the laptops that house them.

The Core 2 Duo E7200’s will now cost $113; the E8400 is priced at $183 and the E8500 at $183. Another reason we are seeing these price cuts would be to make room for the new Core 2 Quad series.

Do you prefer to get value for money when buying new laptops and processors or do you like getting the best technology, i.e. Core 2 Quad series?

Apple’s range of laptops has been using the Core 2 Duo chip and it has certainly been doing the job very well. However Computer World has asked what Apple will choose to use next once they feel that the Core 2 Duo CPU has outlived itself.

Apple seem to launch new products very quickly, so it will not be that far away until we see a new MacBook and MacBook Pro on the market. Will Apple decide to stick with the trusted Intel Core 2 Duo or will the new laptops demand something different. Read more

Budget 45nm Penryn CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E7200

May 21, 2008 by Daniel

There has never been a time when Intel capitalized so much on a winning architecture, other than now with their very successful Core 2 family of processors. Intel have released so many variations of the same architecture and now this is the budget 45nm Penryn CPU, its called the Intel Core 2 Duo E7200. The CPU has it all for a budget user who doesn’t want to sacrifice performance. Penryn gives us power savings and extra features found across the latest E8000 series. Tweak town have gave the E7200 a 12 page hands-on review and in their final thoughts they said “Intel has managed to once again augment its Core 2 Duo line of processors with another winner. While we normally focus on quad core and high-end power from the Chipzilla, Core 2 Duo has some really good budget parts, and none are better than the E7200.

While it comes clocked at a slower 2.53GHz compared to the higher clock of the E4700s 2.66GHz, the higher bus speed of 1066MHz, an extra 1MB of L2 cache and its 45nm construction of the Penryn architecture gives the E7200 a greater feature set while managing to keep its power consumption down and continue to offer some extremely good performance.

If you’re looking for something for a HTPC or digital home setup, you’re not going to be disappointed with an E7200. It has more than enough power to do fast media encoding; its memory bandwidth is excellent thanks to its 1066MHz FSB and its 45nm die makes it more power efficient than the older E4000 series.”

Mac Fusion with Intel Core 2 Duo at WWDC 08

June 9, 2008 by Daniel

The photo above shows Mac Fusion that is for new developers who are on a budget and want to port their existing programs to the Mac. Mac Fusion features an Intel Core 2 Duo mobile processor that starts at 2.1GHz and has an 800MHz front-side with 3MB of shared L2 cache. This device looks similar to the Apple Mac Mini and is rumored to be at WWDC 08, if this becomes reality, it will be nice to see a new Mac this year and not just products and services built around the 3G iPhone.

The aim of Mac Fusion is to make building applications for the Mac more easier than ever before and to give the developer the ability to run alternate operating systems, such as Boot Camp, Linux and Microsoft Windows, while keeping the stability of Mac OS X.

While some people will see the above photo as a fake, it may not be fake as it does fall in line with other information we have heard previously from Apple Insider. If real, we should see Mac Fusion confirmed later today at WWDC 2008.

If you do take a closer look at the photo you may see a few things that lead us in only one way when it comes to this photo being real. These include Apps being capitalized in the tag line, Xcode 3.5 is listed in the bottom right, while Xcode is currently version 3, The three logos clearly have a border, Apple does not use the Windows logo and The ad copy is found wanting.

What do you make of this photo for a new product called Mac Fusion?
