Visiontek ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB Graphics Card

When it comes to some gamers they tend to spend a lot of money upgrading their computers, from motherboards to CPU’s just so that they can get the latest PCI-e cards. Well some go for the cheaper route and that is to purchase the latest and fastest AGP solution available.
One such solution is the Visiontek ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB, this card also has AGP support.
The GPU has a lot of life in it, so is perfect for future gamers. If funds are limited, then this is a cheap alternative to getting the ultimate gaming experience.
When you first unpack the Visiontek ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB, you will find it is a little on the heavy side. The main reason for this is the oversized fully copper heatsink which has been mounted to the board. Hopefully this should keep things running cool.
The normal price for this graphics card is $300, but Woot have it for the special price of just $79.99 + $5 shipping.

There is some good news and some bad news, the good news is that there are some new details about AMD’s next-generation graphics card line-up and it is getting very near to the launch date, the new graphic boards will come with physics processing capability and even better prices will be lower than $200 for a 512 MB board, the bad news is that the 4800 series will be launched after the Nvidia GT200.
NVIDIA no doubt have heard to much about the AMD ATI Radeon 4800 series to move up the launch date for its GeForce 9900 series cards, but the latest news from TG Daily are more launch details for the mid to high end cards. The first on the list will be the Radeon 4850 or simply codenamed the “Makedon,” this card will boast 512 MB of GDDR3 memory, CrossFireX support and single-slot cooling, the price for this card will cost $189 to $219.
Next up is a pair of Radeon 4870 cards which will be here in July codenamed “Trojan” one will boast 512MB of GDDR5 memory and the other will have full 1024MB, it will also come with a dual-slot cooler, these two will cost between $249 and $279. They all pack game physics processing capability plus 7.1 channel audio via HDMI support and DirectX 10.1 support.

ATI Radeon HD graphic Cards gets a Stuttering Fix: AMD download hot fix released
If you have an ATI Radeon HD graphics card you might have been experiencing some stuttering issues with 3D applications, this problem has occurred predominately on games such as TimeShift and Battlefield 2.
There is now some great news to fix the Stuttering problem, all you need to do is get yourselves over to the AMD site where you can download a hot fix which is now available.
What we all would like is the details of what the problem was but this has not been disclosed, there was a lossless compression that ATI uses inside its GPUs. The new fix will be implemented in Catalyst 8.4, if you are not experiencing any stuttering issues then we say wait until the official Catalyst driver which will be here around about mid April.
ATI Catalyst 8.6 driver for Radeon graphics cards: XP and Vista performance
June 23, 2008 by Daniel
Filed under Computer Hardware, Computers, Software

The new ATI Catalyst 8.6 driver for Radeon graphics cards has just been released by AMD and you may want to know how well this driver performs under Microsoft Windows Vista and XP, Tweak Town take a closer look and show the results over 11 pages. They found that the new Catalyst driver has some good performance promises but wanted to give it a run on their mighty test bed.
In the final thoughts, they had this to say “While in the applications we tested there hasn’t been any notable gains with the HD 3870 X2 actually taking a hit in a few cases, the new drivers generally seem to be increasing performance in the promised sections for people.
What’s really interesting about this driver is if you take the time to read the performance improvements, they all revolve around DX10 improvements. It will be interesting to see if this is something we begin to see more of over the coming months; Vista has really picked up momentum in the gamers market with most people jumping onboard.
Considering how hard at work AMD has been on the new HD 4800 series, it’s surprising to see any real gains from this month’s driver, but they’ve managed to do it. No doubt over the coming months AMDs focus will begin to move to the HD 4800 series of cards in a continuing effort to compete against NVIDIA”.
If you want to get a detailed look at the results and how well these drivers perform on different games in XP and Vista then click the read link below.

ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT: need next-gen games to arrive

The ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT is an amazing product at the top of the graphics cards list, but it seems a card before its time as we are still waiting for the next-gen games to arrive.
The built-in audio chip will send audio directly out the HDMI adapter which streamlines home-theater PC setups.
Although the Radeon HD 2900 XT is not the best graphics card it has to be said that next-gen performance is way too early to call and the competing brand NVIDIA has a similar card for $50 less Read more

New Catalyst driver for Radeon graphics cards under XP and Vista

There is a new Catalyst driver for Radeon graphics cards and if you are wondering how it will perform under Microsoft Windows XP and Vista, then you need to check out Tweak Towns 12 page review and test.
The ATI Catalyst 8.7 analysis under XP and Vista goes into depth to find out the real performance and in their final thoughts Tweak Town said, “While the new drivers don’t offer massive performance gains or anything like that, there are a number of nice little bumps on offer here today.
With the fixes implemented in the driver, they’re a good upgrade for most users. People who will be particular happy, however, are mid-range HD 3650 users who want an extra few FPS here and there.
There’s no doubt that the AMD guys are extremely busy at the moment with the HD 4800 series of cards, but with the X2 just around the corner, hopefully it begins to calm down a little bit and the team can get stuck into the drivers and try and get us some more performance from the new cards”.

Hands-on: GIGABYTE Radeon HD 4850 Graphics Card
August 11, 2008 by Mark

Now this looks like it could be something special, welcome to the stunning GIGABYTE Radeon HD 4850 graphics card, the question is “Is this the card that has put AMD/ATI back on the graphics card map?
The GIGABYTE HD 4850, like every other reference design HD 4850 carries with it good performance and an excellent price to performance ratio. We can see against the mid-range 9600 GT at the lower resolution there isn’t much difference. As we increase the load on the card by upping the resolution or turning on AA and AF, the HD 4850 really begins to shine against the competition.
Inside the package we have everything we need, from a Crossfire bridge to a DVI to HDMI adapter. It would have been nice to have seen a full version game included in the package, but it doesn’t seem to be something that many ATI partners are doing at the moment.
If you’re looking for a good valued HD 4850 that goes fast and doesn’t cost much money, the GIGABYTE HD 4850 is a good choice. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, but this helps keep price down and means that you can enjoy high frame rates at a decent resolution for a good price.
Let us know what you think of the GIGABYTE Radeon HD 4850.

Crysis Test: ATI Catalyst 8.4 on Microsoft Windows XP & Vista

With AMD just releasing their new Catalyst driver for Radeon graphics cards, its interesting to see how it performance looks in Microsoft Windows XP and Vista. Tweak Town have gave the ATI Catalyst 8.4 a full review and in the Crysis test they found that the HD 3870 manages to have a small drop in performance while the HD 3650 and X2 remain relatively unchanged. You can see the results in the image below.

They summed up the ATI Catalyst 8.4 driver review by saying “It’s good to see that the performance that we lost in Windows XP with the HD 3870 X2 is back, but apart from that the Catalyst 8.4 driver on a whole isn’t that exciting. The HD 3870 manages to lose a bit of performance in a number of applications while the HD 3650 saw some gains under Vista in our OpenGL based benchmarks.
X2 Windows XP users might take the chance to upgrade the drivers since they missed the last lot, and HD 3650 users may as well take the upgrade since performance under OpenGL has gone up a little without any drops elsewhere.
HD 3870 users might choose to skip the driver with a slight performance decrease in a number of applications. The only reason that you probably want to update to the latest Catalyst driver is if one of the bug fixes are important to you.”
