Lionsgate and Apple are working together to bring more titles to iTunes thanks to Apple’s Digital Copy for iTunes. We are also hearing that the first Lionsgate film getting Apple iTunes treatment will be Rambo 2008 and that will be made available on May 27th.
What’s cool about Digital Copy for iTunes is the ability to copy your Sony Blu-ray or DVD movie to your iTunes library, although this will only be available on select discs. This movie can then be viewed on your Apple TV, iPhone, iPod with video and Mac computer.

Apple fails at 1,000 iTunes movie rentals: will they sell 10 million iPhone’s in 2008
March 5, 2008 by Peter

It seems as if Apple fell short of its target for renting movies through iTunes Store, Apple wanted to achieve a 1,000 movie for rent by the end of February. It seems as if the Apple iTunes Store only managed to have 351 movie titles which are well short of the target.
At the moment there are still only 399 movie titles to rent on the ITunes store, and for both rent and purchase there is a total of 770 movies available. It does seem as if Apple set targets that are a little hard to achieve, just like their target of selling 10 million iPhones by the end of 2008.

iTunes 8 from Apple crashes Vista with critical error
iTunes 8 Apple Inc’s latest version that was released on Tuesday, seems to be causing havoc with Windows Vista, the lauch of iTunes 8 was to coincide with the iPod refresh.
It’s been reported by lots of users on the Apple support forum, that as soon as a iPhone or iPod is connected to a PC with Window Vista the PC crashes, and the user gets the “blue screen of death” (BSOD) appearing on the screen, this critical error appears on a blue background and the user then has to reboot to recover.
One user posted on the forum that they installed the iTunes 8 over the iTunes 7 on Vista and the Blue screen of death appeared, this happened three times, the post had been viewed almost 10,000 times and has collected nearly 300 messages, as other users discussed their problems with iTunes 8 and offering possible solutions. There were a lot of responses from users who said it could be that they need a approved Apple USB driver, but of cause this is user speculation, we will have to wait and see what the solution is from Apple.

Following on from out story the other day, where Sir Paul McCartney signs Apple iTunes deal. It seams that our source UPI got some facts wrong about the story. Apple has denied that the Beatles iTunes deal has been made.
It seems that a unnamed source close to ex-Beatle McCartney said that the deal had already been done, and that the entire back catalogue would be available in the next few months.
So we still do not know when the Beatles catalogue will be available for download on Apple iTunes.

Apple losing money on iTunes movie download service
May 5, 2008 by Daniel

It’s common knowledge that superstores sell many products at a loss to get you into the store, once your there, they hope you will buy many other products to make them a profit in total. Selling products at a loss also builds their brand and business by word of mouth. When it comes to online stores and Apple iTunes things are no different, they would sell certain services and products at cost or even make a loss to build the brand and hope for repeat business from you.
Today we are hearing that Apple may be losing money on the new iTunes movie download service, the hype surrounding this new service is the fact that the movie downloads are being made available on the same day as the DVD release. This has been setup with an agreement between Apple and film studios (this includes the six largest movie studios).
From this week you will be able to buy new movies for $14.99 on iTunes, but it has been reported that Apple are paying around $15.50 for each movie, that may only be a $0.51 loss but over millions of downloads (that’s a big loss). Now Apple must have a plan here, and I am guessing that if millions of movie downloads do happen, Apple will be in a position to demand a better price from the movie studios.
Would you buy a movie download from Apple iTunes?
