I am one of the lucky few that were able to snag this laptop from Office Depot on Black Friday(11/28/08). They were selling it for $349.99 with a $50 mail-in-rebate. It is black in color throughout but has a silver touchpad. It is quite a fast computer, and its wireless capabilities are commendable. The important specs are above, and it burns both cds and dvds. It comes pre-loaded with Windows Vista Premium (not basic) which has Windows Media Center, a favorite of mine. It has no webcam, no bluetooth capabilities, no fingerprint recognition, but you do not get those additions for $350, maybee $600 or more. Its touchpad is the best I have ever used. As far as cons are involved, (they are few and far between)its screen is very glossy, which some people dislike. This is quickly adjustable anyway. However, In a dark room, it is a much needed property, an advantage. The internal speakers are not loud, but if sound is your thing, then you should have (or buy) decent external laptop speakers anyway. Folks are selling these on ebay, and if you are an entry level to mid level user, then this is the computer for you. If you are a heavy multi-purpose user, then get those computers that have the specifications you need, and stop bashing this computer!

i was also lucky to get the laptop at the black-friday price. while i agree with the “pro” comments above, my “con” comments are as follows: (now this is just me, nitpicking): the keys react to a very light touch; the mousepad is not central therefore when my right hand slightlly brushes the touchpad, the mouse flies around… guess i’ll have to use a USB mouse and disable the touchpad…. also with such a large size, i thought a separate number pad would be included…. i miss that from my home desktop… an external one will do fine… i find the sound is loud enough, no complaints there… My previous laptop was 14.5″ and much lighter than this so i’m still getting used to the weight issue…. My previous laptop was also an HP and I loved it… but the motherboard blew so this is the replacement and I’m very happy with the overall system although I hate vista and I had it wiped and replaced with XP…. My previous laptop lid would “snap” secure when shut and you had to press a release button to get it open, this does not have that function…. I like all the extra USB holes and I like the camera card slot…. I’m not too happy with the CD drive button, it’s very small and precise, you can’t just feel for it and press, you have to really put your fingernail on it…. hmmmm …. I guess you can’t have everything for $350….. Just love Hp…..

i have one that has broken. i sent it to hp in houston for warranty replacement and they keep on saying that they have run out of parts. i have tried with no luck to get it but the customer service representatives are rude. on of them is William. my advice is if yours break just be ready to stay without your laptop for a long time. they keep on changing the expected delivery date for atleast 4 times

My left hinge completely fell apart and caused the bevel to break around the screen. Have only had it 11 months. I wouldn’t have paid $350 if I knew it was disposable. I sent it back to HP and they want me to pay almost $500 to have it fixed.

I bought this a year ago — bad display since the beginning. Can only catch the display at 2 or 3 angles (one is almost closed so useless!). Battery compartment is loose. Have sent it in for service twice.
