Ipod Nano Black iTuine Sync issues

I just got the ipod nano 4th generation for my birthday and I don’t know how to sync songs to it. I’ve downloaded the Itunes 8.0.2 and i don’t have the ipod in my devices box like it says you should. Does anyone know how to get the ipod in your devices box on itunes 8.0.2 or how to sync it?
