Sandisk Sansa e260Bad: Track Message

The Problem: whenever I try to play a song a message is displayed conveying that this is a bad track. but I am not able to go back to the menu or turn the device off. Shall I try formatting the device or is there any way to sort the problem out. Does the device too require an anti-virus software?
