Sony Ericcson Satio: Keeps freezing

Got my Satio on saturday great camera but the phone keeps freezing and also when someone calls me no name appears on the screen just the number even though they are all in my contacts! Any idea what i should do?

Not had a problem with it freezing,
But did have the contact problem, I had Duplicated my contacts so two of the same person with same number, Soon i removed the duplicates new calls showed the name
I know exactly what you mean about freezing, my husband has just got the phone on a 24 month contract and since monday has complained continually about the phone freezing! When sending a message it freezes, when answering or attempting to answer a call. also when hehas got the profile set to outdorr the phone doesn’t ring it just vibrates, i have has sony ericcson phones in the past and i have checked all the profile setting and still nothing. He went back to Phones for you Friday morning and they weren’t a lot of help. So i’m gonna take it bakc monday, come hell or high water someone is gonna sort out his phone.
Mine keeps freezing too. Got it on a vodafone upgrade and they are sending me a new one on monday. First batch of phones do tend to have problems. Mine has been horrendous. Web experience terrible, just hoping its a dodgy handset and the replacement will be ok!! Am gonna give it another go with the replacement though as the camera is excellent, shame the web experience is no where near as good as the iphone!! Seems to me like they have concentrated so much on the camera they have forgotten about the “usability” of the rest of the phone!
As meryn keeps freezing and dosent always ring. The battery has been out so much to reset about 6 time a day. Funny when i phoned vodafone they told me they had no other complaints about freezing ? should get another one tomorrow so will see how that goes. Very disapointed with the sound though very flat with no way of adjusting it ?????? Sony wheres the equalizer ??????
Just an up date Vodafone havent deliverd as promiced so phone being picked up gona go to o2 for a palm pre so much for vodafone trying to help ! been with then 6 years with average £50 per month !

took mine back to voda in liverpool, but of course they have no other problems and they have sold lots! Made me feel as if it were me. they did change. phone is fine now.
I have had the same problems with my satio. I’ve even had my phn changed bcoz of the problems. phn freezes, web browsing and streaming awful. It’s not the shops fault, it’s sony ericssons problem. they should recall all the phones. all this hype for the satio, its waste of space.
same problem,have to take battery out at least 4 times a day,wont ring on outdoor,phoned vodaphone and they promised me a new phone to be delivered on 4 diffrent days but never turned up,cancelled contract and getting better deal with orange,second contract i have cancelled with voda this year,dont seem to care,,,,,,
Yes, I’ve had two Satios with the same fault. The sound disappears and so the ringer fails along with media and touch confirmation. Happens all by itself. Both SE and Vodafone are saying they haven’t had similar complaints - buut there are several others on the web and in my case, two duffs in a row leaves little chance that it is an isolated fault. SE blame Vodafone setings and Vodafone simply offer another replacement.
Lots of technology - sad the phone can’t be relied upon to ring - pretty darn basic(unless re-booted first and then you never know when it will fail. The other problem is low microphone level on recording video and sound - have to hold speaker close to ear in quiet environment to hear - does nobody test the basics on these things?
As per Alan Saunders comments made on 26th Oct……..I have returned two phones already within 2.5 weeks. Got phone on Orange upgrade from Carphone Warehouse. Same issues as Alan too, have to reset it at least 4 times a day depending how much I use it, touch screen confirmation (vibrate & tones) stops working after a couple of txts sent, ringer does not always ring same with txt tone when receiving new text. Also alarm does not ring, sometimes when alarm activates it just vibrates other times it just lights up. Tried reloading software with Sony update service but still no better. Carphone have changed the handset without question and their service has been great(even though on Orange contract they have no requirement to change it) as for the handset, really disappointed as a regular SE phone user. Hoping software upgrade will be released real soon to resolve these issues!!!!

im from Sweden got my Satio the 19th and i got all your problems in mine also.
I have tryed to reinstall the software from S-E update service with no difference at all. called the S-E support in Sweden and the say reinstall software and it will work … Bullshit ia say!
everyone i have talked in sweden have similar problems…
S-E need to act NOW for a new software…
Hope they can get this one working i really like the phone…

i had the c905 from phones 4 you and it did nuthing but brake had it less than a month and the ear pice went then the screen then the ear pice twice more they finerly decided to give me a repacment handset had that a week and the same problems thats when the trouble started phones 4 you refused to sort it out again so im stuck with a phone that dont work tell may next year that i gotta pay 50quid for each mounth. sounds like the new sony aint much cope either if it any thing like the c905 id stay well away from it or youl be stuck like me with no phone and well out of pocket being thrown between phones for you and vodaphone.
In response to all who have had problems with their Satio, I would strongly recommend that you contact Sony Ericsson on 08705 237 237 and explain exactly what problems you have been having. I have called them and was advised that the more calls they receive the better understanding they have of specific problems, which will eventually result in the problems being resolved (hopefully). This all may sound obvious and I’m sure a lot of people have taken the initiative to contact Sony Ericsson direct for advice, but, I was told by Sony Ericsson that not all faults are reported or fed back to them because people who are experiencing problems tend to go back to the seller whether it be o2 or Orange or Phones4U. I am now on my third handset and I’m genuinely hoping that it is going to work in the way I would expect a phone of this claimed calibre to work. If not I’m sodding off to the iphone and getting myself a digital camera! Good luck to all.
My vodafone replacement satio seems ok. The last one was horrendous. Had to take the battery out virtually every hour to get it to work! Mine threw a bit of a wobbler last week but had just been on the pirate ship at alton towers so think I just unsettled it a bit.
I don’t dare go on wi-fi though yet. Thats when it started freezing and throwing wobblers last time!!
Camera is fantastic though although part of me wishes had waited for the iphone on vodafone
I’ve had a Satio for about 3 weeks now and mostly its fine however the battery life is not that great and for love not money I cannot get voice dialing like I had on my K850i - ie. press button on bluetooth headset then say persons name and it dials number……. anyone else got this problem or managed to get it to work ?????
Now on my third Satio (Vodafone variant). Have to report that sound still periodically fails and ringer stops sporadically all by itself - even after software replacement. Three out of three means this must be a design fault - hopefully one that may be fixed by a future software update. In answer to Nero’s point, I have called SE and reported faults with the first two phones and asked them to log my report. They did not reveal any other complaints to me or whether similar failures reported were common - so not much help there I’m afraid! I’m curious why noone else is reporting painfully low microphone settings for recording videos though - all three of my Satios require me to hold my ear close to the phone at full volume (and in a quiet envirnment) to hear any recorded dialogue.
So, teething problems or permanent glitch?…only time will tell!

I’ve called S-E Support 5 times and always the same answer there is not anything wrong with the Satio… Im really getting tired of this crap…
Tomorrow im sending the phone to S-E Support for investigation.. BUT i am not happy to be without a phone because there fault with bad software and what makes me really piss off it’s that they denied that it is anything wrong with the phone… ;(
Hey guys i have got this phone coming on tuesday as an upgrade, i have been researching all reviews from diffrent sites and you know there really is one main common theme with the faults on the phone and that is (VODAFONE) Its the firmware that vodafone customise all there hones with that is causing the problems. i worked with vodafone for years and no not in the shops a more technical role. and i know how crappy vodafones firmware can be. so guys if you are on vodafone have your handset debranded if you want to keep it working in tip top condition and that goes for orange as well orange vodafone & t-mobile brand there handsets and formware to the extreme and this causes major problems for the handsets…
Ohh fogot to mention that my handset is comng from 02 who although they do brand most handsets they dont go to the extremes of the other networks so will see what happens when i get it
hey i’ve gt the same prob as well!!! my satio freeze and i gt to take out the battery to reset it !!!! gosh…i’m so sick of it..and my satio is just 2 days old!!!!
I am too am on my third \’satio\’ handset over a space of 3 weeks, I have had the same problem everytime where it continously freezes and I have to remove the battery to reset it. Its so frustrating as on a whole I do actually like the phone and the camera/picture quality is brill.
Vodafone however are in denial claiming only last week they have had no complaints or returns on this model. I will be phoning them tonight for the 4th time and changing to a completely different model, only prob is I dont really like anything else at the mo.
Any suggestions ????????
I’m on o2, mine broke after 1 day - kept freezing and turning the screen images into funky looking square puzzles…just went into carphone warehouse who gave me a brand new one, no questions asked. fingers crossed for this one.
my boyfriend is getting one delivered today on vodafone though - rather him than me!
Had the Satio on Orange for a week now and have had lots of freezing problems, After a call occasionally the screen flashes and flickers and its half portrait and half landscape, no buttons respond and I have to remove the battery then restart it.
Also the clock lost two hours good job my O2 iPhone woke me up or I would have been late for work. I have reinstalled the firmware today and made 3 calls sent many txt messages and it’s been ok, so if it starts to play up again, I’ll go back to Orange with it for another one. Gald I’m not alone on this one.
Hi I am on my second satio . Got it from carphone warehouse .works on all net works still freeze. on t. mobile . great phone, but it is no good to anbody if it freeze all the time. taking this one back see what happens they told me they have not had any problems with the satio i was the first. I rang t mobile told them and they said thats why they had not sent it out yet. HOPE SOMEBODY SORTS THIS OUT.Dont wont a brick for 18 months. Sick of taking battery cover off and taking battery out must have missed loads of calls. Rang se they say no problems with phone.WEshould all take them back at the same time then they might do something about the satio .
Guys Most of you are having the same problems with crashing due to it being on a specific network and the firmware that they use everyone knows orange and vodafone hack the firmware so much it causes problems with a lot of there symbian type phones…
Andone else having problems with crashing well a simple answer press and hold the cenre button and see hom many little programs are running in the background if there is a few like you think you have closed them but they don’t close down pretty common with symbian then they build up and use resources and this slows the phone down and then causes crashes … ive been playing with my phone for 24 hours now not had one single crash it performs really well apart from it sometimes being a bit slow but thats typical symbian for you. ive hammered the camera and watched a few full episodes of Dr who on bbci player through wifi with no problems..

I emailed Vodafone “customer care” with a link to this page saying how disapointed i am with there denial over this problem. They say they will get back within 5 days………….well its not happend ?
i emailed sony ericsson head office & customer services, with a link to this page. The response:
“I am very sorry to hear of the issues you have been experiencing with your Sony Ericsson Satio.
I can advise that the problems you have described are not known issues…” and so forth.
that was their reply once they’d already reviewed this page and all its posts. i suggested that they better make them known issues. fast.
they need to acknowledge how frustrated they are making people, and how poor this phone’s performance really is.
Theres a SE satio fan club on FB maybe start a new thread on that ?

im also on my 3rd satio. 2 silver 1 black. they told me at carphone warehouse that it might be the colour of the phone!!! but no this ones freezing too…. its really annoying and im glad that i didnt have to pay for the phone cos id be killing someone now… i hope SE finally admit that there is a fault with these phones. carphone warehouse will not give me like for like even though they did change phone without a fuss…the satio is just disappointing
hi everyone..i’ve had one to one exchange for my 2nd satio and yet it’s not working well!!!!!!! tis time the ringing tone will automatically goes off…and whenever somebody calls it’ll only vibrate…gosh i think i really gt to sell it off and get a new hp…any suggestion which phone is good now?
Hey Guys might be an idea when posting a fault you post as well what network that the handset is on or weather it is a vailla handset from the carphone warehouse might just help people out..
Because the handset seems to have most faults on vodafone and orange networks

I have had five Satio handsets since 22/10/09 from Carphone Warehouse- believe me they are all crap!! continually freezing, the alarm dont ring, you cant hear when you receive a call and it freezes mid-message. Carphone Warehouse say they can only replace it with another Satio- I say NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I’m sick of them. T-mobile say its Carphone Warehouses problem, so I contacted Sony Ericsson directly to complain. They say they have had no complaints but its obvious from this forum that they are LYING! I will not rest until I get a decent phone that works and Carphone Warehouse has the cheek to say they will blacklist me if I cancel my contract!!! What a load of b*********!!!!!!!
Hi, I have a Satio from Vodafone, well 3 now. I got it 13 Oct. Im on my 3rd Satio and yep u guessed it. No ringtones or msg tones and its started to freeze again. Had to take out the battery twice today.
I really can’t believe that both vodafone and SE fail to acknowledge this common problem. But then again if they did, they might have to announce a product recall. Not good for your flagship handset just before xmas.
Vodafone said that I can change the Satio for something else should this have further problems. But what fone could you go for thats similar high price. Otherwise I’ll cancel the contract or renegotiate a new one.
Got my Satio 31st Oct, on 3 network, and have problem with The Satio Standby Themes. For some reason only the SE theme works, all other themes do not.
They do not show any short cuts, and they are un-editable. Have tried to do the SE Update service 3 times but it fails each time, not sure what to do or if this is tgonna be the first of future problems.
Just thought would add that all the standby themes were working ok when first had it.
Have just been on Watchdog site and reorted about the phone the more the better ? http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/gotastory/ it would be interesting to find out just how many people have had problems ?
well i will be on my 5th satio tomorrow 6th nov. i bet i will still have the same problems and by monday i will ask for another one. vodafone just keep sending me out a new one but without actually sorting out the software. iv emailed the bbc watchdog to investigate my story and urge everyone else to do the same. sony ericsson might sit up and listen then with a big name behind us, as it clearly shows individual complaints just get brushed aside!
Hi, just a word to say you’re not alone. I’m on Vodafone and having the same problems with the satio locking up and not ringing on outdoor setting. If anyone genuinely think getting the handset debranded will cure the problem, for a tenner I will get it done!
Hi everyone, you are all saying about orange and vodafone.
I choose a Satio (against my better judgement after several problems with SE phones in the last couple of years) as an upgrade on O2 through Carphone.
The chap on the phone said that its perfect and they had no complaints about it, the first day it froze and I put it down to the fact I was trying to get it to do to much at once, but then the next day it froze 13 times and I had to remove the battery several times. I phoned carphone and they told me to take it to a store and they replaced it straight away (saying “oh thats strange we haven’t had any others returned”) and away I went happy. But it is still freezing and now I will have to go back again tomorrow and get it changed again, although they have said I can change it for something else. Only problem is that I like everything about the phone apart from the fact that it doesn’t work properly!! A real shame that SE are not able to sort out there phone problems before they release them, time to go back to Nokia I think as the last two SE I have had have had faults galore.
as predicted got another satio last night and no sooner had it charged fully and i went to put my contacts in phone the screen froze, had to take the battery out and start again just for it to freeze up again when i went to answer the phone! Got another phone coming out to me on tuesday! Surely there must be at least 1 satio that works properly. If there is one out there can i have it pleaseeeeeee
We should all just ring SE up at the same time. So when they say no one is complaining we can be like so what are the other callers complaining about. I’ve never loved and hated a phone so much. I threw mine at a wall because it froze. I’m with orange. But I haven’t taken it back. But I am thinking about it. If it freezes one more time today I’m taking it back.
hi i’m fr spore and went to the phone shop asking wat’s happening to my 2nd satio as it freeze and there’s no ringtone and msg tone as well….the fella told me it was due to the unstable software!!! wtf!!! there’s no point SE release such a stylish hp but lousy software!!!!….gosh i really gt to sell off tis fon asap….its making me so frustrated~!!!!!!

I was going to go and get another Satio today but haven’t had time, but I thought all was going to be ok as mine managed to go nearly all day today without freezing, but in the last couple of hours it had made up for it by losing its sounds and freezing three times. So now I’m going to go back Carphone tomorrow and take it back again. They have said on the phone that I can get a different make and model so may have to do that.
After my 3rd Satio started to freeze and crash, Vodafone asked if I wanted to change to a different handset. I said there’s nothing there of interest as I really wanted the Satio since it was announced months ago.
So they offered to terminate my 24m contract which I accepted. I might go for the iPhone on PAYG or wait and see about the Samsung W880.
I really can’t recommend the Satio to anyone right now
Its a great phone, just really buggy software.
Its a shame there is so many faults and a lot of people are not able to enjoy the satio as its intended to be.
But i will say it again vodafone t-mobile and orange have by far the worst cosunt of faulty handsets, and thats not the handsets fault its down to the firmware that the networks modify from the original. i am on my second satio form o2 but the only reason its my second as ther was a fault with the bluetooth module of the 1st one …but no software faults (because they don’t rape it like the other networks) yes they have removed the wisepilot software why ill never know because you can get it free from SE Website.. you tube works great if any one having problems look for a program called snaptu works great with youtube and many more little apps ….
so guys if you have the option to change network go to o2 or go to the carphone warehouse and get a vanilla handset from them that has original se firmware in it.. or wait a few weeks toll a generic firmware is available and debrand either from da vinci or wotanserver.com

Update! Phone seems to be making calls to numbers in my phonebook at random times through the night! My phone shows no record of the calls but it kept my father in law awake all night!
My phone seems to be working fine until I want to take a picture using the flash. It either sends the screen blank leaving the ‘trigger’ button highlighted blue (I can get back to the standby mode but have to turn the phone off and on again if I want to use the camera) or, more interestingly, the flash goes into epileptic fit mode and I cant stop it without turning the damn thing off. Great feature for a club, not so much for your living room!!!
Took mine back to CPW again today to be virtually told that its my fault the phone is having problems cause I am using it!!!!
So I took it home again feeling more than alittle p****d off at the fact I was being talked down to and searched for and update which I didn’t expect to find, and I was right I didn’t find one!!
But I decided to give him the benefit of doubt and reloaded the software just in case, after it had finished I started to reload my numbers and guess what…………….IT F***ING FROOZE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!
So going back again tomorrow and going to try and get something sorted, but think I may phone the customer service line first cause I think I will have some problems!
kev, i had the same prob, on my second handset in 2 weeks, ruined my fireworks night as all the cool pics i was hoping to take were not taken due to the constant freezing up! had left real camera at home thinking lush new 12.1 mega pix camera on satio would be up to the challenge. going back to CPW gain today, armed with print outs of all these blog posts, to see what they’re willing to do!
The phone freezes a lot. In all types of usage.
Had it for 2 days now and had to take the battery out for 15 times. just gave up . Any info on when is the new software coming out or how to fix this problem.
As I see here there is no point in returning it. Got it trough ebay and it would take ages to replace it as Im in Europe.
I am now on my third Satio in a exactly a week since the first one was delivered, the only reason I took another one was because I like the handset, its nice to not have to worry about taking a camera everytime I go anywhere with the kids.
However I picked this one up at half ten this morning and its now five in the evening and it has froozen 4 times already, I haven’t even entered all my numbers into it or bothered to change any if the tones cause it seemed a bit pointless.
The next step for me is to phone customer services and send it back, fortunatly I ordered it over the phone so I have 14 days to cancel all together. Its a real shame that the phone that is being billed as the (unofficial) flagship of the SE range is useless, doesn’t give much hope for the rest of the range. Just glad I haven’t paid for it and I can send it back.
I think this will be the last SE I will ever have as the k810i and the C902 I had spent more time in for repair than being used!
Don’t know where to go next though cause there doesn’t seem to be much else about thats worth having, might just cancel and go back to PAYG with a cheap used 3310, at least it was reliable!!!!
HI ON THIRD SATOI .GIVING IT A GOOD CHANCE TODAY.BUT YOU NOW WHAT HAPPEND NEXT IT FROZE 6 TIMES TODAY. I AM P….. OFF WITH THIS PHONE FREEZING. SO TONIGHT I RANG CPW CUSTOMER SERVICE TOLD THEM ABOUT IT AND WHAT THE CPW MANAGER SAID WAIT FOR SOFTWARE COMING OUT. HE SAID TAKE THE PHONE BACK TO CPW AND TELL HIM TO RING CUSTOMER SERVICES . I THINK THEY NOW NOW THERE IS A FAULT WITH THE SE SATIO .
well this is my 5th and guess yeah from car fonr warehouse !!!! the fone worked finr up to about 10 texts , then what happens is i dont get a text back until i turn the fone off and turn it on again ,, or if i send a message i get every ones messages thru all tog ,,, this is very much a pain ,, cpw tell me sony will send a new sofware out soon but cannit confirm that they have realised there is not a fault yet …….. but how many people is there ere to conrirm this ,, i have two weeks to change my fone dont want to be stuck we a useless piece of shit ,, that i cant do owt with helllllllllppppppp
This is really alarming as I assume all these comments are true. I work with testing at sony ericsson but have not sen this. Never got in contact with the operator specific softwares though. I will attend this first thing romorrow morning, eventhough its not my normal work.

my sister has had this phone for two days and has had it freeze at least 4/5 times each day!! it also seems to be sending me 3/4 blank messages each time she sends a message. shes on O2. i think shes taking it back today for a new one but by the sounds of it there may be no point!!!

i got my Satio back from service after 9days… the stupid ….. had just reinstalled the same software for a 5th time and sent it back.. Result SAME SHIT IS FREEZING NO SIGNALS…. Just called S-E support here in Sweden and there answer THERE IS NOT A COMMON FAULT LIKE YOURS THAT WE KNOW ABOUT! WHAT!!!!!!!!!! Maybe there is a new software on the way perhaps 1 MONTH away… VERY BAD from S-E and SLOW ACTION…

I work at Sony Ericsson within testing and I can honestly say that I have not seen this in the generic software. That doesn’t help you guys, I know, but there is a task team working on the specific operator issues as we speak and a new software is coming as soon as possible!
Trust me, when I read these comments I got as furious as you guys.
It would help though if someone could state the exact scenario for the freezeing issue and the profiles issue.
hooray got my sixth satio today, but sadly it froze 15 mins after usin it, shock, horror. on the good side got my seventh one coming tomorrow and my eighth , ninth and tenth one coming next wk. excuse the sarcasism.
I got my Satio yesterday, and have had the battery out probably 50 times since for freezing up. I’m on Vodafone, and suspect the problem is due to the network branding efforts with various voda specific apps+user interface changes…. other networks do this too, am I right?
Getting my 2nd Satio tomorrow, let’s hope this one’s better! If not I’m getting the handset flashed and putting the original SE firware on it
like the rest of you i had two of these phones, but took my second replacement back to CPW where they replaced my phone for the 32gig n97. not the phone i really wanted as i wanted the satio witth its camera function, and i have to say they treated me with respect although i know more about phones that they do. (70% of the satio phones they sold at my local shop have been returned) anyone having problems with this phone have to be strong willed and stand your ground with the seller. as for sony, i have had a look today and cant find anything on their site or anyones else web page saying there is a problems… very poor show from sony!!!!
Guys i must be one of the few my satio (from 02 direct) has no issues that you are all mentioning but as i have said before 80% of the moans and groans on here are coming from satio owners who have branded vodafone t-mobile or orange firmware and this is where the problems seem to be rising from its the same old chestnut …new handset relleased to early from the networks have not tested it properly just through it out to the general public and bang you see what happens
As i have said before to help out with the fault reporting if you leave comments on here mark at the top what network you are on and is it a branded handest or generic from Cpw will help with the guys who are trying to fix the issues that everyone is having

2.trying to switch to making a call from any other application
3.using internet for more than a few mins
4.trying to view photos, really annoying when you say ” oh guys, look how cool this is” and then it freezes - yeah, well cool.
i havent had any problems with actual calls, except call waiting is a no go.
im on my second CPW O2 handset and having these problems.
guys, should i get another before it’s too late or ride it out?

If i was you i would take it back to CPW As there phones are loaded with generic software and to be honest you should not have so many faults nothing to lose by getting another swap apart from pissing of the CPW Salesman cause they have a bad habit of once they have the sale they don’t care so much..
I think also you will find there will be a firmware update within the next 30 days SE Know esactly what is going wrong with there handset even though they deny any problems and will be working extremely hard to get it sorted …
Maybe they should have stayed away from symbian but who is to know

SE say that there is a software update due in week 48 (next month). Until then, lock-ups, loss of key entry sounds and ringtone, wifi locking on and off and reboots regularly remains the sentance. Fingers crossed that the update does the trick for one and all.

I really understand your pain.
My Satio keeps changing it\’s clock back 2 hours. The auto time update is set to off, is there anything else that i could do? It has frozen a few times after having it a week or so, therefore not bad enough to complain yet. The Themes on standby also seem a bit dodgy. Does anyone know if the green handset button should go straight to recently dialled numbers? Oh and last problem is that i can\’t edit/delete short cuts that i first put on the Sony theme setting (i think). Thanks for any help given.
I have taken mine back to CPW and cancelled my upgrade, now back to my original contract that runs out and the end of next month.
Will wait and see what happens and decide what to do then, but there is one thing for sure, whatever I get won’t be Sony Ericsson branded and possibly won’t be from CPW.
I have covered 150 miles, lost half a days wages and one of my sons had to miss his swimming lesson and I missed my other sons lesson.
All because SE can’t get there right before they release what should be a fantastic phone.
Good luck to all of you who still have a Satio and are going to carry on with it, I’m to impatient and believe that if I have a new phone it should work like a new phone from the moment it is delivered!

I think the problem may be with the memory card. When I removed the 8GB card my Satio stopped freezing. I may buy another memory card and go from there
my partner has got the satio, had it a week and so far no problems apart from cant get video calling to work. any ideas??? oh yeah its on vodafone aswell
I bought mine 10 days ago in Belgium.
Returned it today to the shop.
It freezes 5 times a day minimum.
The software on it is from SE !
So I think it is not the carriers fault.
The Satio is a piece of unfinished crap.
Hey folks just thought i’d drop a message. This website has been very informational as I too have fallen foul of the satio freezing bug. I’m on my second handset but there is light at the end of the tunnel. I contacted orange tech support 2 days ago and had a word with them for about the tenth time, only this time i got a lady called tanya. She said to me to go into menu, settings, connectivity, network then look at the network mode. All satio’s ship set at dual mode/ 3G as standard but if you live in an area with poor 3G as I do it will cause the software to struggle and CRASH!! I’ve changed my setting now to GSM and i’ve gone from about 20 to 30 crashes a day to about 2. I know it’s not perfect but sony are pretty good with sorting out problems. I’ve got a psp and a ps3 and their updates are regular and helpful. There WILL be an update soon adressing alot of the problems we are all having. Hope this helps some of you, it did for me. I love the phone and sony in general and it was a big disappointment to have such a ‘buggy’ handset, but feel happier now. Even my old SE K810i used to crash, but i just loved it any way. p.s also try putting the standby theme to sony ericsson, this is how the phone was tested at sony and is likely to be more stable than the crappy network branded themes. plus it’s got a nice 5 point scroll system like the LG’s And Samsungs. Laters.
Just upgraded on 3 to the satio what a pile of rubbish, its having systamatic failiures with the media player mostly not letting me view pictures all i get is 3 arrows in a circle for each pic.
Im very upset and pray i can cancel the contract now its a joke

Hi, i’m on my 2nd satio on vodafone. Had it delivered tuesday and hasn’t missed a beat yet. All working perfectly, pretty quick and NO lockups! Now then, could it possibly be partly because this time i have kept it original? Even using the sony ericsson suite for transferring wallpapers, tunes, etc even installing the contacts rather than placing onto the card directly? But more to the point, this time i have NOT installed any of the apps, themes, etc available for either symbian o/s or the Nokia N95 which although worked could have been part of the problem? Be honest, i bet everyone here surfed looking for apps or some type of software free when the phone dropped in our grubby little hands???? Well, sorry to say sony are very backward on bringing us apps, themes, etc to buy (let alone for free!!!!) and this is where the iphone leading the market…. Please sony or someone, hurry up and bring us some decent free fun stuff for this system that works or you WILL be losing customers to the iphone, especially now o2, vodafone and orange can sell it. The satio is lighter and smaller and has the ability to be a really exceptional and fun phone, especially with the 12m camera!

I am using my first Satio and it freezes like nobody’s business. On Sunday, I took out the battery and put it back for more than 8 times in an hour. Seriously, Sony Ericsson need to do something about this phone. Consumers like us will not just condemn this Symbian OS but Sony Ericsson phone as well… The time we wasted to get the phone back and the money we waste on such ‘high tech’ phone.
Update. Had my satio for 8 days now and still no problems at all! Since there have been no further postings since my lest message concerning the possible cure I can only assume that I was correct? In which case, glad to have been of help! If not, fingers crossed that you get your satios sorted eventually

They sent it to S-E for a judgement for they think it is some kind of hardware problem???? Anyone else heard something like that?? Is there any new software out yet?

My is not with any operator firmware its a”free” one…
Please read my two previous postings about using downloaded apps and software, etc that isn’t specifically for the SE Satio. Seems everyone elses problems have been solved ????
Just read through this entire thread and it is quite scary to say the least. Still waiting for my upgrade SATIO through T-Mobile here in the Uk.
Spoke to them earlier today again about why there is still a delay in getting them in stock.
The lady told me that all the phones were puiled now because there was such a huge problem with the software (hence me now reading this thread). She said it would probably be at least another couple of weeks until SE had sorted the problem internally and then new versions would be shipped to the UK.

a note to follow on from my earlier message. just been speaking to sony about firmware updates and they will definately be releasing a new update in the next 2 weeks. My satio is now running really smoothly had no crashes for about a week now since changing it to GSM mode and the sony ericsson standby screen. Also made some discoveries. The phone doesn’t like receiving calls and when i answer i hear nothing. But just recently, since having done a firmware update to the same version as was already on the phone, i don’t have the problem the phone is a joy when it runs like this and I love it, love it, love it! Down side though, tried to download some apps from the play now arena site and GUESS WHAT, they don’t work DOH!! Oh well. try switching your phone to GSM downloading and updating the firmware even if it’s the same version then restart your phone but remember to switch it back to GSM as it will revert to factory settings. IT WORKED FOR ME!
just a quick note to say my satio is still freezing, hence i’ll b picking up my 11th phone tomorrow. im on vodafone and avnt downloaded any apps. the phone is on basic standby mode and iv reloaded the software again from se site but still it freezes. iv tried everything people have suggested on this web page but no joy. fingers crossed for tomorrows phones. i wont hold my breath!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank god thought it was me, Locks up continually and what ever profile you use the phone just vibrates. Problem is i’m now on my second one in 3 weeks and it’s the same. HELP !!!!!!!!
Ho hum, well after a week and 3 days of absolute joy using my satio, the problems started again… quite strange ones too? My boss tried to call me and the phone wouldn’t ring? after attempting to change the settings and tones, the phone just kept locking up and I had to remove the battery each time. When testing the phone in either outdoor mode OR max volume normal mode the phone rang perfectly but when I tried again immediately after the thing wouldn’t ring again (no sound OR vibration) However after removing the battery several lockups later discovered that by putting the volume at ALMOST it’s highest in normal mode with vibration on, it have worked perfectly since?!! So I guess it has some kind of wierd querk with the o/s or software and max volume/ring setting…. I really hope sony can sort this one out quickly or maybe give the option on a windows mobile or android o/s download upgrade. If they don’t act quickly they could quite easily go the way of Umax after the overheating problems they had a few years back with the 10″ screened mini notebook…. no more Umax (they originally specialised in high quality scanners) Sony, take note!
Hi I\’m on my second Satio which seems to be fine (although adding video media a bit hit and miss more miss)
The first unbranded cpw had the exact same fault as someone else here where by when taking pictures specificly with the flash on, the phone would freeze with the blue surround on the shutter key lit and the flash would go into a stobe as he said great for clubs!! had to take batt out to fix.
Had wierd problems when using card that was in the previous phone everything seemed fine but when you took pictures the action was as if everything was fine but no pic was stored.I had to format the card to get it working.

The media mode does not work well either if you have to many video files the phone freezes also. Spoke to SE today they said that the files that I,m putting on the phone are not compatable even though the files are being converted by media go .
The phone doesn’t even recognize files downloaded from the play now it will play one of 5 and freezes if you can play another.
I would like to know if anyone else is having similar problems with the media player side of the phone.
was not impresed that SE couldn’t tell me anything about the remote drive function thats on the satio suggested that i google it,which I ddi it seems that it,s a function used more by nokia users that have the same interface software as the satio.
Still you would expect SE to know what is on their product !!!!.

didnt quite get my 11th phone yesterday as vodafone customer services cocked up again and i wasted a trip to the shop, just to be told it wil have to be sent out to me as i did it online, but on the good side where my phones have all rung the 1st time and then after that it would just vibrate unless i take the battery out and then once again it would ring and then vibrate. i have notice if you go into your profiles and go into outdoors and turn off ur key sounds and your touch screen sounds and save it. switch your phone off and then back on again ring your phone, exit it and then phone it again fingers crossed it should ring again. iv tried it a dozen times now and it rings everytime without me having to take the battery out. if any of your other profiles have got the key sounds on and touch screen sounds on turn them off. my phone hasnt frozen either yet. hope this is some good to anyone else out there with the same problems.
good news,after problems with my first satio with voda, i switchwed to orange,had it now a few weeks and not a problem yet, fingers crossed, all is not lost folks,great phone when running correctly
