iPod not syncing with iTunes

Okay..So when i plug my iPod in to my computer my windows media comes up and i play the music on there. It shows me that there is music on the iPod, but when i take it of of the charger it says I have 0 songs…????? and when I connect it to iTunes it keeps rejecting and syncing…it wont make up its mind….So can anyone help me?? I tried everything. =(
