Verizon Blackberry Storm problems

I really wish I had not gotten the new Storm it has been nothing but problems more or less from day one. At first I just thought it was user error and then I started getting device errors that would shut my phone down while I was typing a text, email, or on the phone. Then it starts freezing for no reason. I cant do anything with it. And now, the screen is black. The phone is on and working, I am able to get texts, calls, heck I can even take photos since a side button is for the camera but I cant see anything. I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem and if there is some way to fix it. There have been many times that I have wanted to throw it at a wall, out the window, on the floor, and Im sure if you are having the problems you understand the feeling. Any help would be great. Thanks.

The Storm will hang if there are too many applications open in the background and there is no function to see what’s open.

Try removing the battery for clean reboot.
If that doesn’t work then return the phone for replacement.

    MDR:

This is more than just a reboot and overapplication problem. We have ten different people using the Storm and we are all having that problem right now and it has been getting progressively worse the past two weeks. Phone calls come in as unknown number, the system locks up, cannot make calls, etc. This is the worst we have seen. Met someone at hotel bar yesterday and he has started seeing the same thing too.

The storm has to be the worst phone ever. I cant tell you how many phonecalls i lose in a day because the phone locks up when a call comes in. This phone also locks up when receiving messages. Called verzion about the issue and it seems like every month i end up replacing the phone.

I have had the same exact issues since day one. This is the worst phone on the market. I get a time clock signal constantly and can’t make or accept calls, my screen goes white constantly…it’s just a waste of service since about 90% of the time I can’t use the phone. I went to a tech center and the idiot sales person tried to tell me that it was the best phone he’s had and it must be user error. Nice - what’s happened to customer service in this flipping country? I called the tech support and had to do a manual reset, which seems to have helped, but supposedly I’ll have to do that at least once a week. Ridiculous.

when you guys call verizon to replace your phone do you have to pay again?? because I’m also experiencing the screen blackout.

Im also having issues with my storm. In the middle of phone calls, my screen goes black and i cannot hang up phone, then it freezes completely, and i either have to remove battery or it will restart by iteself. I do not have warranty to replace phone so im stuck until someone finds a solution, if there is one…..

THIS PHONE SUCKS! OMG, I got it through my employer for work and it’s ridiculous!! I can’t do anything on this phone. Since the OS update in July, the screen constantly flickers and the keypad shifts around. I have to chase the keys around on the screen to type in my password. I frequently mistype my password and am threatened with the possibility of the phone automatically deleting all information after three password attempts. The keypad has even inverted itself on multiple occasions(everything looks like I am looking at it through a mirror). The phone is a useless piece of crap. I’m so disappointed. I’d hate to have an emergency because I don’t think I’d be able to dial for help in time on this stupid thing. I went to a Verizon booth close to work and the rep told me to update the OS again (new release 10-30-09). I wasted 2 hours messing around with that crap and it told me it could not update properly because I had a conflicting version of the FACEBOOK app. WTF.

I am having the same black out screen problem!!!
The 1st time it happened i thought it was because the phone over heating so i made sure i had a fan on it when it was charging an this worked for like ahold month. Until one day i was in a hurry to go in the shop an just put it to charge an left for about 15 mins and by the time i came back it was in the black screen mode! I rebooted it an put in front of the fan an by afternoon it began to work again but every day since then it when into black screen mode!!
Today it when into black screen mode an i put it to lay on its face with the screen locked. when i check it comes back on for a while and i could use it like normal but after the black light goes out it might go back in black screen mode!!!!

If any1 has way to fix this problem please tell me because i cant afford to a new phone right now!!

P.S. I i only have this phone 6 months now!!!!!!!

The only way that I know to fix the problem with the black-out screen is to take it in to Verizon and tell them you want another phone. If you got it from a 3rd party (ebay, friend, ETC.) just leave that part out… If they dont ask for that info DONT give it to them. I got mines from someone else and Im on my 3rd replacement. If they would let me change my device I would TOTALLY be right on that boat to get the tour. BUT I just dont wanna pay for it. I personally would LOVE the storm if the stupid “smartphone” would be “SMART” like it suppose to be!!! LOLL

I am having the same problems with my BB Storm. I am on my second replacement since switching to Verizon in May. In August I had to get it replaced because it was opening messages on its own, shutting down, etc… I found out that if you press and hold the menu key it will tell you the applications that are open. You have to close the applications with the menu key, then close. However, I had been doing that since August and just this Sunday my BB crashed and I ended up losing over 100 contacts. The tech support guy just told me he was sorry but he couldn’t do anything about it. I also asked him how many times did I have to turn in the phone for a replacement before I could get a new phone. He told me that it would have to be within 90 days and “legitimately” broken. How crazy is that. And the real kicker, he hadn’t heard of anyone having the problem that I am, yet I get online and find alot of the exact same problems all over.

My BB storm went out for an today! I was so pissed! I took the battery out and laid it on the bed for 30 minutes then I popped it back in and said a little prayer and it returned to normal! The freezing and staling and keyboards not switching from potrait to landscape is normal for me! I regret buying thig phone! Its my 3rd one! Get an Iphone if you’re smart! Save your time and money!

The Storm is is by far the worst phone I have ever had in my life, the touch screen freezes, it’s difficult to type, errors, I can’t do anything!! The caller button does not work, the voice dial never matches your pronunciation and it’s slow as hell I have tried everything, wipe off, rebooting, restoring factory settings, reinstalling the OS and nothing works!!! What’s the solution, get ANOTHER phone and throw this piece of shit away or burn it. Don’t ever waste 400 dollars on a Crapberry good for nothing!

  13. SweetBrownee on December 27th, 2009 5:05 pm

I agree with the blackberry storm being the worst phone EVER!!! I have actually been in situations where I needed to use the phone IMMEDIATELY and was unable to. I want another phone. I tried to get one and was told that I would need to purchase it! No! You owe us a new phone VERIZON!!! I was told to update it by using that darn CD!!!

I HATE THE BB STORM WITH EVERY INCH OF ME!!!
VERIZON, GIVE ME ANOTHER PHONE OF MY CHOICE FOR FREE!!!

  14. iceguy154 on January 4th, 2010 6:36 pm

I’ve even updated to OS 5.0 and after 2 months of use the same old problems have returned. I actually work on blackberry OS applications at my place of employment and I can tell you the Storm and its operating system/JVM implementation have massive memory leak issues. What this means is…get enough apps on there and eventually you will leak away all flash memory dedicated to running apps and none is left for your OS to allow proper functioning. This is completely unacceptable. People need to be able to USE the phone in an emergency. RIM FIX THIS!!!!!

I am on my third bbstorm in 6 mos. The first one the rep tried to see what the problem was and crashed ALL the computers in the store. No one can hear me or I sound tinny. I learned awhile ago to carry insurance on Verizon phones. It is the first question they ask and if you don’t have it they brush you off immediately. Even with an inusred phone, I was once in a Verizon store with Verizon help on the line and still no one wanted to help! The last one I could not answer any calls. Of course, when they have you tied up in the two year contract its basically ’sorry about your luck’. I am a bz owner & I pay upwards of $200 a month for this peice of junk. Verizon reps for the most part under trained and no little about their own products yet the answer they always have for you is user error. I am going to pay the penalty to get out of the contract and try AT&T. What do I have to loose?

  16. Dave on January 5th, 2010 9:03 pm

My Verizon Storm is the biggest piece of shit I’ve ever owned. The screen freezes. Won’t answer calls. Worst- when you finally do get a message entered… pressing the “Blackberry” button to bring up the send command freezes… nothing happens. I’ve come so close giving this bitch flying lessons…. Would love to take the designers out the back of this building for anger management activities! Complete piece of shit. Never buying one again- no matter what.

  17. Johanna on January 12th, 2010 10:21 pm

I knock-on-wood have not had the problems to the extent as some, but I too have the annoying freezing problem. It has caused me to want to throw it out the window. I too have been caught in situation when I need to make a call quickly and that little clock comes up and it freezes. Or, even worse, I’m expecting an important phone call and I can’t answer the call. I saw somewhere on line that maybe the problem is too many apps and to remove some to open up memory. So I delete some unused apps and make sure that photos and media are going to the media card (which has nearly all the memory still available) and then after some time the apps memory goes down to zero again.

I have been a verizon customer since when it was Bell Atlantic. I have not tried going to the store about this, but I am considering going in as I don’t know how much longer I can take this. I am very disappointed in this phone and everyone else that I know has one has the exact same problems. I would have hoped verizon would have recognized this, come up with a fix and allow customers to get an upgrade.

  18. Joe User on January 29th, 2010 5:39 pm

This Storm, even with multiple updates, is still the biggest piece of junk I have have ever owned. It frequently rings on incoming calls a split second before the call goes to voicemail. It constantly locks up. It randomly disconnects from the bluetooth. The microphone is so low quality it is unusable without a bluetooth. The call answer button frequently will not respond quickly enough to answer a call before it goes to voice mail. The touchscreen sometimes takes seconds to respond to each touch when texting. Using the camera locks crashes the phone after 5 pictures. In short, the product is unusable.

  19. Bob D on February 6th, 2010 11:27 pm

Im having problems answering calls on my BB storm.
The answer button doesnt always respond.
I have the newest OS 5 on Verizon

  20. SM on February 8th, 2010 3:36 pm

My screen freezes up a lot. It occasionally goes to snow. The only way to fix it is ti take out the battery. The keyboard is slow to respond although I changed the ettings. Worst now the screen doesn’t respond at all when I am in internet explorer, and most of the time when I open it the agreement screen comes up, over and over. I took the phone back last week and they told me the problem might be too many applications open (mail, facebook, clock….?). They closed some applications and deleted the agreement screen from the history. I am bringing it back again today because nothing is better. I’m not very techy and haven’t owned other smart phones, but this seems ridiculous.

  21. DB on February 8th, 2010 11:50 pm

Ok guys…The first version sucks…The second is awesome…no problems whatsover and to teach the jerks at verizon to stop assuming or making us feel like we r the problem…everyone who owns the original should return it and demand the storm two….It’s not user error….but they will give you hell about it….however those who have fought them and one and got the storm 2 have no problems whatsover….my husband did this….and has had the new storm for over two months…tons of apps open at once, and no issues, he trouble shoot for blackberry for his company…..so he knows whats good and what isn’t and he love bb storm 2…..

  22. Paul on February 12th, 2010 12:34 pm

This is the worst phone I ever used I loose phone calls after 10 seconds

  23. Himalaya on February 14th, 2010 8:15 pm

For no reason, the Verizon Blackberry Storm freezes up and will not respond to my touch. It may accept one click to the next menu, but then will not accept any choices made with touch. I.E., contacts will open but screen will not scroll upon touch, or will not accept selection of search cursor to type in desired name.

I have had the storm for five months without problems until this past weekend. All of a sudden my phone wont hold a charge. After charging in the vehicle and then back at home I got this white screen that appeared. I took out the battery thinking that would solve the problem but it didn’t. Can’t make any phone calls or receive them either. Going to Verizion after work.. Wish me luck….

  25. Antoria on February 18th, 2010 2:58 pm

Ditto! This phone sucks. I can’t do anything with it. I can’t access my email or make a call right now. I’ve taken the battery out several times. Nothing works! I hate it!

  26. Karla on February 19th, 2010 4:42 pm

I agree with anyone who says that the Storm is the biggest piece of Shit they have every owed. I have a phone that freezes up, wont answer calls, wont receive text messages but will send them, my screen doesnt go white or black it just fills with UFO language yes thats what I said UFO. It spends more time thinking than it does working. I think Verizon should give anyone and everyone that bought this piece of Shit phone a big fat credit for all of the head-aches their product has caused. We pay outragis bills every month for a service that 90% of the time we cant even use. I predict that my Storm will be receiving free flying lessons real soon towards the Verizon store that sold me this piece of SHIT

  27. Wojac on March 4th, 2010 3:08 pm

Agree with all, the Storm may not suck but the RIM software does.
Was told by an insider that RIM doesn’t write their own code for the Storm or other BB devices.
They sub it out to freelancers. And it shows.
Verizon denies that there is any problem w/ the phone, but we all know better.
It may be time for a class action to get Verizon and RIM to respond.
    Any lawyers out there?
    EW

Wow, I had no idea that so many other people were having the same issues with the BB Storm as I am! That is because according to Verizon, they never heard of any of my complaints before. i have had mine for 9 months now and it has not worked right since day 1. When i first comlained they adjusted the touch buttons and then they kept telling me “that I would get used to it”……..I am constantly backspacing to make corrections as the keys seem to have their own mind and not the ones i typed. The last few days only the center of the screen works……none of the side keys nor the scroll bar will work……I was given the same song and dance about it needing to be returned within 30 days…..well I did go back within 30 days but that is when they said i would get used to it…..to give it time….so I gave it more time only to be told that I was now too late. I tried to get it replaced to no avail so not sure how so many of you were able to get replacements……I hate this phone and had to laugh when I read someone else wants to throw theirs against a wall as that is the very thing I told Verizon yesterday!! I am counting the months until my contract is up so i can get a new phone…….one that doesn’t have a touch screen that prefers not to be touched!!!

  29. Suzy on March 11th, 2010 12:39 am

Ugh. This phone is LAME. I can’t afford a replacement right now, and I’m counting the days till iphone is available for us Verizon users….

My phone totally freezes. The hourglass click timer thingy is always on. I go to fetch my texts or emails and it takes about two minutes for it to come up. Same with the camera. It’s getting worse and worse. Any quick fixes?

  30. s on March 11th, 2010 9:29 am

Ditto on all counts esp. Customer service seeming to be ignorant of any problems
