PS3 game discs not showing/working, Blu-ray movies work fine

Last night I tried to play a game on my PS3 and the game disc would not show where it normally does, it would not even automatically load. So I tried a Blu-ray movie in the Playstation 3 and that worked fine and also an audio CD worked.
So I thought this cannot be a hardware problem, and having heard about PS3 disc error problems before. I got a little worried. So before I phoned Sony, I thought I will try a last resort of formatting the hard drive within the PS3.
After doing this everything worked just fine. Also note that I am running the latest 2.70 firmware. This was an obvious software glitch and a pain. I now have to redownload all my Singstar songs among other things, this is thanks to the backup erroring as well before I formatted.

A quick format has fixed the same problem that I just had first the first time!
