I’m having the same problem. I’ve done everything possible. Reset my modem/router. Also, reset my ps3 by holding the button down for ten seconds. I hope its just an update.

  4. admgb on January 21st, 2009 9:41 pm

Yup, its the servers, I have tested my playstation at different locations with the same result. I also have friends experiencing the same problems.

  6. scopey01 on January 23rd, 2009 6:37 pm

how long does it last for i am sick of it now, still not working.

  7. Nathan on January 24th, 2009 12:05 pm

its doing my head inbecuase mine was working all right, still freezing, bu would work, but last night i waited for TWO hours and nothing happens, i took the disc to my neighbours house and it worked perfectly, his came on in seconds, no problem with the disc, is it a console problem, or a network one, as he has a different connection then me

  8. scopey01 on January 24th, 2009 3:21 pm

what broadband server is everyone with it could just be that.

  9. James McClatchey on January 24th, 2009 5:30 pm

Same “Downloading Game Settings” issue as the rest of you. last night I waited 2hrs and it still did not finish loading. I tried turning the power off at the PS3 then unplugging the power to my router, waited 1min and plugged the router in confirmed IP and internet access and powered up the PS3 and still had issue. I am on Verizon FIOS broadband and using ther router with wireless enabled. The PS3 is not hard wired to the net so I am using the PS3 wireless features. This is really p!ss!ng me off.
    ANY Suggestion?

  10. scopey01 on January 25th, 2009 12:29 pm

I am on orange and every other game online works fine apart from this one.

please has anyone got idea to fix it its driving me mad

  12. Victor on January 26th, 2009 7:51 pm

I would visit playstation.com. You can read the forum and have all your questions answered. I have NOT had a problem. I just waited for everyone on the playstation forum to tell me the servers are back up.

    PS3 Screen name: VIOLENTVI

  13. muz on February 3rd, 2009 7:38 pm

mine is doing the same thing. I left it on the downloading game settings screen all day. Came back and it was still there. Apparently it is something to do with the UPnP settings. I read some review thing and it said that you have to disable the UPnP. I did that and it still does not work. All of my other games work perfectly online its just CoD that im having a problem with. If anyone DOES find a solution to this then please can you email me at muzzyda1@gmail.com.
All help will deeply be appreciated.

I had this problem since i made some configuration changes in my router…
to fix …. i deleted the profile file and also the game data file … i reinstall the game , download the update and worked…. (i wait 10 min aprox in the downloading game settings …)

  16. carlos on February 8th, 2009 6:27 pm

i backup the profile file….. any way didn´t needed for online game… the rank is saved in server….

  17. Ongoing issue on February 14th, 2009 6:51 am

Everyon is having this problem now and not a word from either Activision or Sony on a fix. Seriously, next step is a class action lawsuit, I want my money back for the game if it is not fixed.

  18. Victor on February 14th, 2009 3:14 pm

I would visit playstation.com to correct the issue. It’s just a simple server issue. You most likely just need to reboot your modem. Also, call your router company and set up the advantage setting. They will guide through the process.

  19. Nick on February 17th, 2009 6:15 am

I have 2 isp on my house, Cox and Qwest, i could not connect on my qwest after rebooting and every thing, I went in my office and hooked up to my Cox and it worked fine, Not sure whats going on tonight,

last week i was able to connect to a friends private game just fine with wireless router with wpa on. this week have not been able to connect at all with friends that are playing a game. was wondering what the (bleep) is going on with this. keep getting unable to connect to host and server is full. noticed many other people are having this problem to. anyone have any ideas please leave comment.

  23. Adam on March 6th, 2009 1:56 am

Same **** happening to me. I cant connect to anything. also have fios. they are probably blocking this game.

  24. jim on March 11th, 2009 7:30 pm

I spoke to Activision today and they told me I need to Forward the correct ports, and assign an IP address to the router for the Playstaion 3. This is the inof they gave me. I still can;t figure it out, but here it is. Also visit Activision.com/support for help. Good luck
Set port forwarding on your router to your Playstation 3. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare uses ports 3658, 3478, 3074, 3075 (UDP) and ports 80, 443, 5223 (TCP).
-Set port forwarding on your router to the IP address of your Playstation 3. Call of Duty: World at War uses ports 3478, 3479, 3074, 3075 (UDP) and ports 80, 443, 3074, 5223 (TCP).
-Place your Playstation 3 into the DMZ of your router.
NOTE: If setting port forwarding or DMZ helps your game play you may wish to assign your Playstation 3 a static IP address inside your home network, this will help ensure that the configurations you made do not need to be redone.

Before you can forward the ports to your console, you will need to obtain your console’s IP Address. To do this, go into the Dashboard and under Network Settings run the Connection Test. This will give you the console’s IP Address which you will forward the ports to.

  25. David on March 15th, 2009 4:04 am

ok so i forwarded those ports and turned off the DHCP server and after i do that i can play for a while and then sometimes it will reset my router and reset my securety wep to all 1s so i have to go in a reset all that crap and then it takes me a while to get it all to where i can get back on the online play, is there anything i can do to stop this?

  26. Ryan on March 20th, 2009 2:56 am

i was having the same problem but here’s how i fixed it….first you shut off your ps3….then once its shut off you disconnect it from your router for about 30 seconds…then once you connect it back up to your router you turn your ps3 back on and go to settings then network connection…there should be something that says internet connectivity and what u need to do is click disable for about 15 seconds then enable it again…then you sign on your profile and it should only take about a minute or two to work

  27. Bobby on March 21st, 2009 7:02 pm

The problem that Fios users are having is called “packet loss” You have to go into your router settings and change these values…]

    TCP 80/443/5223
    UDP 3658/3478/3074/3075

This should work but be warned, if fios recognizes this which is called “port forwarding” your service with them will be either suspended or canceled since they do not support port forwarding.

I went through all of this over the past 2 days now calling between verizon, Actiontech (maker of the router for verizon) Activision, and verizon DSL services.
Your best bet is to use a Linksys router subbed onto the verizon router (since the linksys has no filters and YOU can change any value in it)

  28. David on March 24th, 2009 7:37 pm

ok well i did all that i got to play for maybe 20 mins, i have had this problem since i bought this game and just kinda giving up on it i guess, every day when i want to play it i have to either redo all the port forwarding or reset them or reset my router, and yeah my ps3 has a static ip address

  29. chris on April 2nd, 2009 1:25 am

ya i have the same problem i would go on multiplayer and it would be stuck on downloading settings… and it only do it every time i play world at war and then play cod4 then it would do it for some reason.. any suggestions?

  30. paul on April 6th, 2009 2:33 pm

have same problem at ‘find game’ menu-goes to downloading settings and stays there. have found that if you go back to ‘find game’ straight away and reselect (and spend maybe the next 10 mins repeating this) eventually it finds the game list and can play as normal- well until next time

  31. giulio on April 6th, 2009 10:03 pm

just did it to me, googled it real fast. i just reset the system and internet connection test. hm. lol

  32. Scott Lowe on April 23rd, 2009 6:44 pm

I had issues with this and tried absolutely everything to fix it and nothing worked until……I upgraded my broadband from Orange 2MB Limited Free broadband to O2 20Meg broadband.

The issue stopped immediately and the game was much much clearer and smoother. I have no idea why this stopped it because I don’t know technically how the servers work on Call of duty

I am am a happy man again.

Here is the link to the full issue I had. it details what I tried to fix it.

  41. VladTheInhailer on June 25th, 2009 9:26 pm

i think i have the answer. this is what works for me like 90% of the time when it wont DL game settings…

    1. start up cod, multiplayer, then find game.
-if at this point you are getting DLGS you should hop on your comp and type in 192.168.1.1 into your browser address bar and you will get a name and password bar pop up
    2. type in the word “admin” in the password and nothing in the name section. you should get your wireless router settings(if you dont have a wireless router you are living in the pasty)
    3. look up the section that says gaming/applications.
    4. find the “DMZ” section there of
    5. go to the network settings on your PS3 and then the list(first option)(you can do this in game)
    6. enable the DMZ for the host IP of your playstation. you should get a lot of clicks and noise from your game and be signed out of psn possibly, this is ok…all normal.
7.sign back in by clicking multiplayer and it should do it for you…at least thats what works for me!!

  42. muz on June 28th, 2009 9:03 pm

Mine jus worked ^o)…when u click on multiplayer from the main menu, keep tappin x really fast..,wrked 4 me

  43. fvh on June 29th, 2009 6:58 pm

yeah, i was playing cod4 today, i changed it to play kz2 and when i turned back to cod4 i couldn’t play anymore, every other game works accept that one, but i’ll try the solution ryan came with

  44. Chazz on June 29th, 2009 10:00 pm

You should go into your router settings and try changing the channel of the router i did that and it works fine now. If you have any questions email me at my crazy email chazzyfizzle411@aim.com

  45. nacha de burra on June 29th, 2009 10:59 pm

This happens when connected wirelessly and an “higher” IP address is assinged automatically to the PS3 than the rest of the devices connected to your router. Simply turn off your PC or any other device connected to the router including your PS3. Then turn off the router wait few seconds and turn on again. Now turn on FIRST your PS3 so the router can assing the first IP address to the PS3….this worked for me.

If still have problems check if you have a fixed IP address assinged to your PS3 or PC..etc. and change this seetings to assing automatically DCHP…

  46. Chazz on June 30th, 2009 8:49 am

Like i said earlier you change the channel of your wireless router the channel that worked for me was channel 11 i have verizon fios router try it. If any questions email me at chazzyfizzle411@aim.com

  48. Sammy on July 8th, 2009 11:36 am

bought COD4 about 18 months ago now and never had 2 much trouble with it, maybe somtimes the odd bad connection but about a month ago i jus turned it on, hit find game and this whole thing with the downloading game settiings started. the offline single player on the game was fun but really short so the game is useless to me without the online play,

  49. Adam on July 9th, 2009 8:39 pm

i have posted a blog with instructions of exactly what to do in your router to make cod4’s multiplayer work

    http://www.bucketsniper.blogspot.com

go ahead and check it out and add me on ps3 if you wanna play!

I’ve had my PS3 40GB for over 2 years and first time im noticing a problem. I usually play COD4 online and recently during game play my audio shuts off out of nowhere and it wont come back. I’ve got it hooked through HDMI and the cable is fine. Another problem was while I tried to play 1 on 1 with a friend on my PS3 (not online) while it was loading for the game it just froze and got stuck w/o letting me turn it off with the remote or the power button on the front, so I turned it off from the back. Then the worst came when my PS3 won’t see the disc whenever I put it in. It won’t give me any messages or anything when I insert the disc, but other games work fine. The COD4 game I’ve got has absolutely no scratches and I can’t seem to figure out whats causing these problems. I’ve got my PS3 on the latest f/w upgrade. Please if someone knows what I could do let me know, email me at BigRedGevo@sbcglobal.net THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

  56. Wayne on October 3rd, 2009 2:25 pm

No wonder PS3 are losing out so much business to Xbox. Given that these problems have been present since way back in Jan I think it’s fair to say that Xbox is the better option for the future. Seems PS3 do not care about this problem. Their loss.

  57. Gordon on October 11th, 2009 9:29 pm

go to your modem settings and turn off upnp

  58. Graant on October 13th, 2009 7:48 pm

Finnaly , just got it to work.

Step 1 : Go into network settings on the ps3 media bar.
Step 2 : Disable UPnP and enter the new settings.
Step 3 : Restart the Ps3 and Router for at least 20 seconds.
Step 4 : Unplug your Ps3 , open your window and launch accordingly at a precise 32 degree angle. (OPTIONAL: You can also toss your router out at this moment too)
    Step 5 : Buy an xbox 360.
    Step 6 : Get RRoD.
    Step 7 : Commit suicide.

  60. Jdog on October 26th, 2009 7:05 pm

stop writing about freakin how good xbox 360 is in the ps3 forums, go get a life. Xbox 360 has red ring so you have no room to talk

  61. Ken on October 26th, 2009 11:40 pm

I know this is an old thread but in case there is anybody out there still having this problem try this. Go into network settings on your PS3 and asign a static IP address, do this by selecting manual setup under Network Settings. Leave everything at default except for IP. Log into your router and make sure there are no other static IP’s assigned first as you do not want to create an address conflict. If you are unable to log into your router and you are unsure of what to enter for Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and Primary DNS; On your computer click Start> run> type cmd and press enter(if using Vista press ctrl+shift+enter, this opens an admin command prompt) In the command prompt type ipconfig /all > press enter. Under what ever your active connection is i.e. Wireless LAN or Ethernet Local Area Connection you will see your Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and Primary DNS(DHCPserver). This will give you the info you need. This has worked on mine and my friends system. Good Luck!

  62. Eddy A. (SWFC) on October 27th, 2009 12:02 pm

no it won’t happen on MW2 beacuse it will probably be the biggest selling game of all time probably so they will want to make sure that it will be the ultimate game with no problems

  63. max on October 30th, 2009 2:39 pm

trust -just disable upnp on router settings and it works straight away

  64. Bud verissimo on November 2nd, 2009 6:56 am

Hey it was working for me 2 weeks ago in my dorm. And now stuck on downloading game settings. I can’t reset modem because it’s my schools Internet. And it’s connected through ethernet cable. Cod works at my house hen I bring my ps3 there. But not in my dorm. Can anyone help me out? I bought ps3 just for call of duty. And without live working. I kinda want to kill myself. Already beat campain on hardest difficulty and have all the deathcards. Lol.

  65. blackie on November 2nd, 2009 8:44 pm

We had same problem on our ps3 which was on wifi connection. What we had to do was clean out the temp file on the computer hardwired to the router. Type %temp% into run and delete files. some may not delete if in use but most will. Hope this helps. Cheers CB. P.s I`ll kick all your asses on cod6. coming soon.

  66. LUIGI_4321 on November 3rd, 2009 12:07 am

One would think that sony would try to fix a problem as big as this one. Fixing not being able to access multiplayer should be their main priority. They should at least offer some PROFESSIONAL opinions on their website rather that a bunch of children discussing the same problem and varous non-working solutions on a forum.

  67. Medx on November 3rd, 2009 5:00 am

For FIOS users….login to your router…go to “advanced settings”…click on “universal plug and play”…un-check “Allow Other Network Users to Control Wireless Broadband Router’s Network Features”

That should solve the Download Game Settings problem.

just so you folks know i have been having this problem recently too and so did a friend of mine. my friend was able to bypass this problem without doing anything more than using a different persons game disc. i have no idea how that solved his problem, but using a different disk allowed him to get online fine from then on

Im with BT so got the bt hub so don’t no how change all the details any 1 HELP???

  72. JB on November 13th, 2009 3:33 am

I had this problem and discovered that the playstation had opened up ports on my router/firewall automatically. The problem was the since my router uses DHCP, the playstation sometimes gets a different IP address from my router. The router had IP based rules set for each of the ports needed by call of duty and some were going to the wrong ip address.

I use verizon fios with an actiontec router. Here is what I did - log into your router by going to 192.168.1.1 in your browser. Go to the firewall settings and then port forwarding. You should see some rules set up for \”demonware port mapping\” for ports 3074 and 3076. Make sure that those ports are configured for the IP address that your playstation is using.

I am currently residing in housing at a university under a resnet university connection. I am unable to do multiplayer on COD MW:2 and it also didn’t work for WAW. It simply goes to Fetching Playlists. I do not have a router because my cable plugs directly into my ps3 from the wall. I am able to get online and even play other online games but just not the CODs. Also when MW2 came out, it had worked online fine until they updated the invite system and now it is back to how WAW is. Does anyone have an explination to how I can fix this issue. It is really annoying to not be able to get online due to a Resnet University connection. Thank you

  74. Ken on November 17th, 2009 9:46 pm

Please refer to my post on Oct. 26th 11:40PM
I don’t know why you people are still complaining about this. AHHHHHHHH
i gave you the solution, it is a simple Network Address Translation issue (NAT) where b/c your router is set to DHCP your ps3 will pull different IP’s based on availability and the port forwarding rules will not apply as they are adhered to static IP’s. Just set your friggin ps3 to a static IP and you will never have another problem with DLGS. Forget disabling UPnP b/c that is just a bandaid fix and will cause other problems down the road. Hope this helps and for god’s sake I hope there are no more posts on this thread after this. if you are have trouble with the settings you are welcome to email me. badsysad@gmail.com
