Hyundai Sonata 2006, airbag light problem

The airbag light came on for the driver side. I was told it was one of two codes, the seatbelt clip that would cost me $300.00 to replace, or a sensor in the seat cushion that would cost $1600.00 to replace!!! It cost me $80.00 to find this out. Has anyone else complained about this airbag light. I sure am not going to replace a seat cushion for $1600.00 just to get a light to turn off.

    Dear Melissa,

I too have the same problem. Shortly after I bought the car (new) I noticed that the drivers seat made a squeaking noise. After several trips to the dealer and different repairs tried, they replaced the seat.

Now that air bag light is on constantly. Did you write to Hyundai corporate?

    Dear Melissa and Judy,

Thank you for your posting of this problem. I am having the exact same problem, but it’s $88 for someone to tell me what error code is. Have either one of you found a way to have this problem fixed? Or are living with a glaring light from your dashboard?

    Noel

I just went over the 50,000 miles and my air bag light is on and is not going off. The dealer said it would cost $105.00 just to look at it and more to fix it problem.

Thanks for the replys. I haven’t mine fixed. Once they reset the codes it went off until last month. Now it is blaring at me again. I think we should contact Hyundai. I think I will e-mail them.

I too must jump on this bus of unfortunate well wishers. I have read umteen trillion reviews and questions for maybe just one good fix….Alasssss. None are to be of actual value…. I believe that Hyundai having been hit pretty hard with this faulty diagnostic revenue and with the uncertainty of the safety device actually having a valid fault via the lamp indicator, would by now be quite disturbed to the higher end of the corporate level…… If I find the solution or modification of subsiquent value dear friends, I will let you know. Until then, I have found a small piece of black electricle tape over that constant red light has been a true compromise…. Good Day All Russ

I have had the same problem with the airbag light coming on. I have take my car in the last year a total of 12 times for the airbag light and they have numerous things to patch the problem.

My light just went on too! I have a 2006 that just hit 35000 mi and the glaring red airbag light is on and won’t come off. Anyone have any luck contacting corporate? I was hoping this was some sort of recall issue. I also have a “passenger airbag off” light on half the time with passengers in the seat. Irritating! What’s up with the airbag issues in this car?

Wow! I’m not looking forward to this at all. I’m in MA, and just flunked my annual car inspection due to this light being constantly on. I e-mailed a friend, and he has an appointment tomorrow night to get his light looked at…mine is a 2006 Sonata, his a 2008 Azera. Since your postings here, have you had any luck, or new news to share? Has anyone written to corporate? This seems like an epidemic that should be followed up the food chain and resolved. Thanks for ANY news!

Ok so after 2 weeks I finally wedged myself under the drivers side seat and jiggled the wires for a bit. What do you know, light went out. Hasn’t come on since… thank god.

The Hyundai dealership said, in my case, my car’s battery was low. I changed out the battery and the light is OFF…yaaaay…I’m hoping this is the real fix.
