Far Cry 2 Crashes: Corrupt save games on Xbox 360

All in all Far Cry 2 is an awesome game, but the corrupt save games are so frustrating. I have friends who have finished the game using the same disc no problems.

Anyone know a fix for Far Cry 2 freezes?

I had my save files corrupting around 60%. I think its because I was overwriting the same files over and over. So, I just made a new save everytime I saved instead of overwriting old saves and was able to finish the game without any more problems.

Maybe this will work for you?

Its a big problem, go check out the Ubisoft web site, the forums are teaming with people complaining and it seems to be a problematic game for all formats.. i too have the corrupt save game problem, to the point where you take 2 steps forward in the game and your forced to go 3 steps back because the latest game saves are screwed up

  3. Peter on January 13th, 2009 7:36 pm

yeah, mine got ****** at 88%. so i’m way to far in to restart a game as long as that. even multiple saves wont save you, the game is just not finished. all we can do is wait for a patch. cuz theres a few other problems. like NPCs disappearing, and freezing. maybe Ubisoft will smarten up soon, and patch the first good game they’ve released in a few years.

UBI customer support line is useless. Rather than admit they have a software problem all they tell you is to start again and blame it on the xbox. I tried to get a straight answer from them since I can return my xbox to costco for a new one but they wouldn’t give me one. I left a message for a “manager” but I doubt he was, and was just a ploy to get me off the phone.

I’d like to start again by getting my money back for this piece of s&8t!

Too bad in that it’s fun with the exception of the problem noted.

ive got 100% complete save game without any drama, saved over the last game.

  6. Paul on February 16th, 2009 6:11 pm

(I saved over the same file over and over though) Anyway if anyone finds a way to fix this problem PLEASE respond me!! GAWD IM SO FRUSTRATED CUZ I HAD TO START ANOTHER GAME OUT AND I WENT FROM LIKE 200 DIAMONDS TO NOTHING!!! THIS SUCKS NARDS!!!

  7. xhellabentx on February 17th, 2009 5:47 pm

they had the right idea having alot of save points and what not but i think their ambition backfired i have had this problem several times with different xboxs using the same disc and your right they arent fessing up to the issue i called a few times the first time they said i had to adjust the time and date which that didnt help and having multi save files dont help either so i thought well maybe i should play several games at once which would be complex and confusing but an interesting idea it seems to happen more often now my love for farcry started with the original for pc that came free with purchase of a motherboard and i been hooked ever since and i own them all with the acception of farcry 2 for pc which i will get next i hope someone can help me with patch or fix or personal address of developer LOL i would be grateful i dont blame anything on anyone i just want it fixed also anyone who has a game they can compare to this i would like to know about

  8. FarCrier on February 20th, 2009 2:42 pm

I can’t believe there is still no PATCH IN SIGHT for this f***ing BUG. This problem has plagued pretty much EVERYONE thats ever played the single player. I too spent over 30 hours on the game, collecting all the diamonds only to have the friggin save get corrupt at around 62% completion.

The fact that they havn’t addressed a major issue like this YET baffles me. I think I’ll stay away from all future endeavors of this DEVELOPER. Such a shame, Far Cry was one of my ALL TIME favorite games.

  9. Carlito on February 22nd, 2009 2:22 am

It makes no difference as to whether you save a number of times on the same file or you choose a fresh one. I had got upto 58% but then the save froze, so had to go back to my last save redoing all these levels again. So any how i started making fresh saves and you know what? at 62% the game froze sick and tired of this.
I thought this was the fault of the disc at first. I cleaned and i cleaned it but no still the same. I ordered another copy this was second hand and found that what i had saved also froze on the new disc too. So then i realize the problem was in fact in the data on the disc and not the disc itself.
Such an awesome game but quite frustrating i won’t be finishing it. I too will give this label a wide birth next time. If Ubisoft decides this is how they want to proceed then they are in danger of losing customers i mean who wants to part with hard earned cash for a game on a label that never sorted out the last problem on another game. My advice is pure and simple. If Ubisoft don’t put this right sometime soon i would advise everyone to ditch Ubisoft no matter how tempting some of their releases might be.You must stand up and do something now or this will happen again Its a Far cry to be ripped off.

  10. Herlander on February 23rd, 2009 8:18 pm

I’m having the same problem! 65% froze!!!! (I saved over the same file over and over ) It also happened a few times constant disconnection from the servers online. I’m not playing FarCry 2 anymore!

  11. carlito on February 24th, 2009 3:13 pm

Still waiting for the so called patch, makes you laugh that they are patching things that give extras but the real problem crashing is ignored.
I would not believe anyone who states they have completed this game. I have checked around 25 discs from other people so far and they are all corrupt at the same place. The problems always seem to start from anything 52% onwards saving on the same file or not makes no difference. Obviously this game was not properly tested by testers as this would have been found if it had been.I would warn all potential buyers of this game to stay well clear of it and don’t waste your money until i patch is available which will cure this problem. How can we approach Ubisoft for a full refund they are so hard to contact.THis problem for me only applies to the Xbox360 and it is not the console. I have tested this on other consoles from Xbox. I cannot vouch for PS3 or PC versions.
Brilliant graphics excellent effects brilliant shooter game but the crashing has destroyed all this game stands for.Who is to say that this problem won’t happen on other releases. It certainly makes you think twice about purchasing other releases from Ubisoft. I would advise everyone experiencing problems with this game to go to Ubisoft and complain or the Far Cry 2 website.

  12. PHLIPERS on March 3rd, 2009 10:08 pm

i started getting this problem a couple of days ago, i have 2 save files both at 69% and everytime a save a game i overwrite both of them, just in case something happens to one of them, so when i started playing FC2, i loaded my first one, but it froze, tried it the second time and it still froze, figured it was corrupt so i deleted it, the other save worked, but im afraid it will freeze again cuz of the problem, so im waiting for a patch to be release. Far Cry 2 is a great game but this problem just kills it, I hope Ubisoft addresses the problem and fixes it, SOON!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Jorge Bucaleto on March 4th, 2009 1:58 pm

Saves from Far Cry 2 only works at Weapons Shops when this crashes happening.
I know that’s boring, but, each complete mission, goes to weapon shop next to Marina to save the game.
    Regards

  14. Moshe Grovenski on March 11th, 2009 12:45 pm

Sure… how can to fix that problem??
I play far cry 2 and got this problem with save game on 69% …
why the hell this happen?? how can to fix that please?

not fun with that… why this happen now !@!!!
    Damn it

  15. Carlito on March 11th, 2009 11:49 pm

Sorry Buddy but this has nothing to do with your Xbox360 it is the game itself Ubisoft are ripping you off. All go to youtube look up far cry problem go here

Something i have noticed about the crashes on this game they only seem to happen when the computer asks after a mission if you would like to save the game it is then that you are likely to experience a crash. What i did was i went around this and found a building to save my game. I went to another building to collect Malaria tablets from these guys and had killed all the guys outside the hut, however once they were all dead and there was definitely no more around i went back in to collect the tablets and could not get them. But so far savinbg in the way i have the game has not so far crashed. Once a mission is finished when i get the message about saving the missing i click continue without saving and try and save the game as soon as i can my self. Hope that makes sense!

  19. peter on March 19th, 2009 6:33 pm

Thank god it’s not just me. It started for me at 54% So far I can usually go back to the 3rd last save and have it load. I agree with you all stop buying Ubi soft products
We all agree bugs are a part of life but when the company won’t admit to it or patch it thats just pisses me off

  20. Carlito on March 20th, 2009 6:21 am

What Ubisoft should do is make a game called Adventures Of How to Find and contact Ubisoft. This would be a thrilling adventure based on reality!
omg Ubi churning out games but still taking no interest in sorting out this game. I like many now have a game which just sits on the shelf collecting dust that i just cannot complete.
Considering the amount of sales on this game this forum should be over run by now? Come on people what you too afraid to step up and be counted.

  21. rzrblade on March 21st, 2009 12:14 am

    Hello Everyone:
I too waited for this game for some time. I am using an Xbox 360. When playing the game, I use the save icons that are scattered around. The software confirms that the save went through. But when I die and go to reload I wind up back at the church where I first got the malaria pills.

I have not tried to save the game at the weapons shops yet. And ubisoft’s website is a dead end.

  22. Armgame on March 21st, 2009 10:54 am

Thx I don’;t hav anymore problems somehow when I told my dad how to run singleplayer it worked. Now I’m almost 60%. That was really weird but thx anyway

  23. two scars on March 21st, 2009 6:39 pm

same problem again my friend warned me about ubisoft when assassins creed came out but i ignored him and should of listened tohim when i got far cry 2. my problem started at around 60% i was playing and it froze so i turned off the 360 and turned back on and started playing again then it froze again. turned it off turned it back on to find my save totally gone. SO F OFF! Ubisoft will never get my hard earned cash again!

  24. Carlito on March 23rd, 2009 2:59 pm

    Armgame
Hmm However you have not completed the game you state you are now at 60% i was able to continue providing i never used the automatic saves when they came up, But again sooner or later this bug will bite again i have managed to get to around around 66% of the game but some weird things start happening and then it does it again crashing. I have given up playing this game now too bloody frustrating maybe that is what they should have called this game Frustrating. Total waste of time and money. If ever they release a Far Cry3 they can stick it where the sun don’t shine. Even if they do recognise then that Far Cry 2 had problems with crashing i just won’t spend the money and i hope many of you also do the same.
As for future releases i would ask that all give anything with Ubisoft on it a wide birth, Don’t buy it no matter exciting a new release might be. In this day and age business is business you don’t look after your customers than you suffer the consequences. This issue is really taking the mick. Ubisoft get your house in order.

  25. English on March 24th, 2009 10:37 pm

Just got to 64% on FC2. Love the game, awsome, bit too much driving but otherwise great. However, just had my load crash and cant be arsed to restart after so many bloody hours.

    What a sh1t way end a great game….cheers ubisoft.

  26. jim on March 25th, 2009 6:58 pm

i hate this problem spent 45hours on this collecting the diamonds in both areas and doing the missions. Saved at the apr base in the southern district tried to load it up and it just crashes everytime. I have currently not had this problem again around 50% complete 2nd playthrough. If it crashes again im trading it in, oh and im also warning anyone who wants to buy it not to

  27. Nick on March 26th, 2009 3:49 am

I got 62% of the way through and ran out of malaria pills and now can’t go back to get them because i saved my game. I can’t live long enough to advance and get anymore pills, what do I do?

  28. Nico on March 29th, 2009 12:48 pm

I got to 92% and it won’t load up to that point. Trouble is that I think it crashed at 69% following a mission to return something to the Marina Bar. It would’nt let me in as all the doors were shut. It looked like a building closed for missions.

Can’t be arsed to go back that far unless there is a solution. A mate of mine re-did 40% of the game and completed it, but i’m not playing russian roulette with that amount of game time.

Great game with a major pitfall!

  29. Kyle on March 30th, 2009 3:01 am

Well what a great way to end the weekend and start a new ****** week. Start to play far cry 2 for the 360 and everything is going great…… until i reload my game trying to save a friend that i killed in the mission i was doing (radio Armageddon) by mistake then the loading freezes and im stuck so i restart my 360 hoping for the best when all of a sudden all of the icons / bus station locations and map just dissaper. Plus when u go to the smaller zoomed in version of the map everything appears locked even tho i had them unlocked for like a month. So Good job Ubisoft Montreal, i looked froward to this game so much i bought everything pre-order and even the strategy guide …… but it is usless now once you are 71 % in the game and then it crashes. I was happy to help support Canada in this awesome ,home-brewed game but i was brutally shocked. ( if you have a 360 add me ip22oo )

  30. MegaThumbs on March 30th, 2009 10:21 am

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1521068375/m/8411008247 complain on this forum, its actually owned by ubisoft but I dont think they read it.

ubisoft seem to be a bunch of cowboys…

  31. Carlito on March 30th, 2009 11:23 pm

And they keep coming. Unfortunate i know and people will continue to Far Cry 2 is a jinxed game so if any of you out there are contemplating a purchase of this game on Xbox360 don’t waste your time or patience as your sanity may depend on it.
Keep your dosh in your back pocket or spend on something more worthy. Oh and also if its a Ubisoft game don’t buy it for the sake of all those millions of people with a crashed game and all that wasted money you would be sending a clear message to the makers of this farce. Far Cry 2 don’t get me wrong is an absolute fantastic game but for it crashing this is no joke and destroys the whole integrity of the game.
Umm UBISOFT ARE YOU LISTENING CAN YOU HEAR US FIXED THIS FAULT PLEASE YOU OWE IT TO YOUR CUSTOMERS.

  32. Sam on March 31st, 2009 10:15 pm

Since the problems is on all 3 platform, it is dangerous for UBI to be lazy, because they got all factions against them…

all this rebooting made my Windows Crazy.. i finally had to format my HD cause Win xp coudnt take all the crashes anymore…

i will uninstall the game and forget It like i forgot about Duke Nukem forever…

Developpers N Publishers are all about $$ and nothing about creating a quality product..

most of them didnt understood…. the greates games of all didnt had the best graphix and engine eg : World of warcraft, Counter-strike, PONG!

  33. Max on April 11th, 2009 7:04 pm

I’ve been stuck at 87%. All diamonds and tapes have been picked up. Only 7 missions to go. I’ve been waiting for over the past 2 months for the update or any news regarding my save file but that’s it, I’m returning my game and I’ll get a credit for it (used game) that I will later be putting on another game.

I’m disappointed, but not that mad at Ubisoft. Their games are pretty good (most of the time) but a bug like that shouldn’t happen once the game has been released.

Good luck to all who are waiting for the bug to get patched. (fingers crossed)

  34. Carlito on April 12th, 2009 2:07 pm

Well i for one am not waiting anymore got rid of the game no point in keeping it i did not sell it just gave it away with a warning that it will crash. Ubisoft seem uninterested in fixing this problem and that has made me think very carefully about buying any games of theirs in the future. I have resorted to the fact that they have lost a customer in me ok i maybe small fry considering the amount that Ubisoft may make from sales of their games but at least i wont be putting any money in their pockets. I hope that these posts find someone who maybe tempted to buy this game and be warned off from making any purchase. To those still waiting for it to be patched good luck i won’t be one of you - no longer have the game so care very little about any patches now. UBISOFT SHAME ON YOU!!!!!

  35. Crash Revenge on April 25th, 2009 4:27 pm

We bought Far Cry 2 for pc and Xbox 360. He started playing it on a rented xbox 360 game. The save feature didn’t work properly. He thought it was because it was a rented game. So I bought him the pc thinking it would be better. We could get a patch if needed. But come to find out he really wanted the xbox 360 game. So he ordered it. He got 20% through the game and the saved game feature stopped working. So he struggled with it and discovered if he saved the game twice in the same place the second save would “take.” Until now… He cannot save anymore at all. He is only at 24%. This is ridiculous. I have researched here and other places. It seems its a common problem with no fix in sight. I left a message at Microsoft telling them my disappointment. I hope that helps. In the meantime we are out $70 for junk. Don’t bother buying it until this problem is fixed.

  36. DRN on May 9th, 2009 9:12 pm

Hate to be a ‘me too’-poster, but: me too. :(

62%. It happened before, so I made 3 saved-games, rotating them. I was going for the lenghty ‘all diamonds’ achievement, but it turns out all 3 saves are corrupt now. 2 give crashes, 1 does still work. but the mission system seems to be stuck. I hope I can use that one for my achievement.

Worth noting here, is that I was able to play the game in its entirety the first time. That leads me to believe that the bug has something to do with side-missions being completed. I also recall one instance where the ‘mission-door’ from the APR or UFLL was closed. This has been established on several forums as being the result of all side-missions completed.

When my saves got corrupt, I DID very recently complete all assassination missions…

  37. mopuddin on May 12th, 2009 8:18 pm

68% - crash. will no longer load. last save before that was 9 hours back. very friggin angry. great game, too bad it’s ruined now.

  38. GazzA on May 25th, 2009 6:23 am

I wish i could say “mine froze at 60%”
I have been through two brand new copies of the game, and mine wont even load the start sequence in the jeep. it either freezes just after the ubisoft logo appears or at the main menu.
It sucks because it looks like such a great game, and i cant even F**kin play it

  39. Jason on June 1st, 2009 6:14 am

Yeah, I just got this problem too. Really sucks that there’s no patch out for it after over half a year. Wtf is Ubisoft doing?

  40. Ken on June 22nd, 2009 6:23 pm

WHAT a dissapointment this game is, the Controls are hard work (for too many of them) “Simplicity Please”
Yes visually stunning but playabilty ……No you’ve failed with me!
I will Never buy aUbisoft game Again!

  41. jonjon on July 6th, 2009 4:39 am

This is a joke! you dont pay for 65% of a game…. This will cost ubisoft more in the long run for diking everyone around…@%$#

  42. Jon on July 7th, 2009 11:44 am

Same problem here on my 360, problems started at 92%….very frustrating. When you lay out this amount of cash for a game, you expect some degree of professionalism.
Software houses don`t give a monkeys, so we have to protest the only way they understand, by spreading the word and avoiding shoddy product from Ubisoft. I`ll think twice before buying their wares again as I feel pretty shafted. It won`t do.

  43. Jason on July 9th, 2009 2:56 am

    So here’s a solution, guys:

Scroll down. When you unplug your Xbox, the date resets, and as the save games are sorted by date, the most recent save might not be at the top or even be the game Far Cry 2 attempts to load.

As long as you’re not getting a hard crash, this should fix your problem. It’s what fixed it for me.

  44. Tsunnen on July 21st, 2009 7:38 pm

I was playing FC2 until 5 minutes ago, when it crashed when I *SPOILER WARNING* was going to meet Jackal in the prison.

I can’t believe I’ll have to restart all over again… Damn, such a great game and a ridiculous problem like this? At least I’m relieved to know that my Xbox360 isn’t bugging out of a blue.

    But damn man, I’m disappointed

  46. Phatsta on November 28th, 2009 11:45 am

On my Xbox 360 when the load hanged, I just kept the xbox-button down as if I wanted to turn the console off, and when the option to shut down appeared, I just hit B and the game was loaded and playable. It worked several times, so try it out and see if it works for you, should you ever be stuck.

And btw, the save ‘corrupts’ wheater you overwrite an old save or save in a new slot, doesn’t matter to me.

  47. Steve on January 31st, 2010 11:03 am

@Jason - give people some credit will you! I think most people discussing the problem realise that the the saves are ordered by date/time, with the most recent at the top. That is not the problem!!!!!

I’m here because I too have had the same problem (360 version). It initially only happened once back around 50%. Luckily I had hundreds of saves, and I just went back one and carried on playing. Not too much of a set back.

Then I got to 81% and found that I kept getting corrupt saves. It didn’t matter where I saved, if I saved over a recent slot, if I saved over an older slot, or if I did a new save. I was finding that about the 3 most recent saves were corrupt.

I can’t offer a solution to the problem, but right now I’m just saving at every opportunity and now saving twice at every save point. If I do get another corruption I hopefully shouldn’t be set back by more than 30 mins of play.
