The only person I've spoken to at Comcast who understands what's going on is in the Abuse Dept (856 317 7272). As the customer care dept is so useless, they are getting a large amount of the complaints and seem to be valiantly trying to deal with them.

As mentioned in my previous post above, my ps3 stopped being able to run any games. Well I called Sony yesterday and they're sending me the box to return my Ps3 for service. While speaking to the customer service rep I began to suspect that this is not a problem that Sony has only seen a few isolated cases of based on the way our conversation went. Also of note was her interest in what firmware version I currently had on my ps3 and after which update, 2.40-2.41 or 2.42 did the problems first manifest themselves. Seems more and more likely the firmware update(s) are somehow associated with this particular issue.

Hi Guys, I never go to forums so i'm totally new to this whole thing.
I bought a brand new 80gb ps3 and cod4 one week ago. I have been waiting for about a month. Was really excited about it as my brother in laws each had one (i was the slow one). The had 40gb's and I had a 80gb :o) So if any1 wanted it to work it was me. I had to download the software update and to be honest with you I dont know which one it is, must be the 2.4.1. When I click on the 'Play online' button it comes up 'Downloding game settings' and probably 1 out of every 5 times I play online that comes up, its goes on and on for about 15 minutes at least. When I know there its not going to load I can press the ps button and go to the menu and quit th game.
I put that down to a possible connection problem (yeah right) but I was making excuses.
When I go to split screen to play with some1, I can choose the map and rules but when i press start game, 1 out of every5 or 6 times the loading bar will scroll to one point (about 25% and 90% are the usual distance) and then the system will be totally unresponsive. You could press whatever you wanted on the controller...no avail, no matter how long you wait, nothing will be displayed. There is something wrong here...does anyone else have this problem?
I can take the disc out, I dont know why I did because the screen stays the same, the only thing you can do is press the front power button to turn it off (i dont know how to restart it yet). You could turn it off and turn it back on again and it could be totally fine.
The problem I have is really like the console/game/graphics, everything about it but I'm stressed when this hapens to a brand new system 1 week old.

PLz let me know your thoughts, shall I return it if possible but then what? wait for them to fix it?

thanks for the hands on review, i'm currently the same type of gadget person as you, and i was thinking on buying a set of these, the thing is though i already play my games on a 45 inch hd samsung tv and from what i have read its best to just stay with that. The x4 model, im not too sure about either as although its better resolution and at 60" visual, there is probably nothing special about it since im used to HD tvs also.

I have my PS3 for three months, it was well cared for and ventilated. All updates were carried correctly. But then 2 weeks ago it started having problems playing games, it would freeze up now and again, then it wouldnt recognise any blu-ray DVD standard DVDs,CD;s worked fine. Then it stopped playing any blu-ray DVD.
I tried reformatting it but still no way would it work.

I spoke with Sony Customer care and they didnt think it was anything to do with the recent updates and not wait for newer updates, just to return it. I returned it to the shop where they said they had 2 others with the same problems and it can take 6 weeks to replace depending on availibility of parts.

I think its just a hardware problem with blu-ray!

I was playing Call of Duty 4 on my ps 3 this evening and I got booted from a match (everyone may have been). an error box popped up saying "dobj for xmodel 'body_up_usmc_woodland_sniper' has more than 128 bones (see console for details)"....... I am not very literate when it comes to electronics and I was wondering if someone could tell me what this means. Thanks.

Well I thought the problem was fixed, however today something has raised an ugly problem. I cannot download any e-mail, or fwd any email. My wife works with the church and is expected to be able to down load certain material. Today none of that has been able to be accomplished. Maybe I should e-mail Rick again.

I'm glad to see this article... I'm a big fan of eBooks. However, I use the Cybook eBooks reader, which I think should be more convenient for college students as it's lighter, doesn't limit you to Amazon's store, etc. The interface is also extremely simple - more iPodian than the Kindle.

I spoke with Sony again today (been on the phone with them since Wed. the 20th) and finally someone game me some explanation of what had happened to my system since the 2.42 update.

It seems that the 2.42 update has caused problems with the LOADING HARDWARE in our systems and that's why we are having these problems.

They said when we send our systems in to get fixed they are going to swap out the HARDWARE WITH NEW HARDWARE.

NOTE: FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND ARE OUT OF WARRANTY DO NOT LET THEM TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU BY TELLING YOU THAT YOU NEED TO PAY $150.

SONY PUT THE FIRMWARE UPDATE OUT THERE FOR THE SYSTEMS, SO IF YOU WANT TO PLAY ONLINE YOU HAVE TO UPDATE. THEREFORE SONY HAS CAUSED THE PROBLEM TO OUR SYSTEMS WITH THIS UPDATE AND THEY SHOULD WAVE THE FEES FOR THIS NIGHTMARE OF PROBLEM!!!!!!!! ASK TO TALK TO THE SUPERVISOR AND STAY FIRM AND TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE NOT PAYING FOR THE REPAIRS.

And no, I'm not a fanboy troll. I'm just a PS3 owner who got bricked by the 2.42 update. Contacted Sony a couple weeks back, explained the situation (I was out of warranty on my 20GB console) and they authorized a "good faith" repair/exchange. Received my new replacement 20GB on Monday with 2.35 installed on it, updated to 2.42 and have had zero issues so far. *knock wood*

So yes, all you who are still suffering with this issue, sending your console to Sony is the quickest fix at this point. Not sure if 2.50 is going to remedy this problem.

Good luck!
