Yes, we’re still waiting for Canonical to respond. Just hope they fix some of the major problems. I had no problems with the installs or upgrades as I did it on 3 PCs and one notebook. However, some things that worked in 9.04 either did not work or were degraded,

For example, I could no longer share files and folders on my home network with other Ubuntu PCs. Firefox took 7 minutes to go through the booking process for sports facilities whereas they were almost instantaneous in 9.04.

Mobile broadband setup and access became a hassle and unstable in stark contrast to 9.04. Why? Couldn’t they have just kept some of the old stuff working?

Canonical may have made a vista-type error of judgement when designing 9.10 but for me, at least, the problems are not huge but just making my computing experience less smooth and pleasing.

C’mon Canonical. Try not to shoot for the stars too fast. Make Ubuntu rock-solid first and we can help you really spread the word. For now, I’m afraid to recommend 9.10.

New install of UBUNTU 9.10 AMD 64 Bit on two PC’s – Both working ok, SKYPE and DVD play work ok - WINE – and an MS Windows Game work ok.

New install of UBUNTU 9.10 32 Bit on one old PC – working ok, SKYPE ok. DVD play not yet working.

No problems found with these three new installs.

My apologies, yes I agree this isn’t a un-biased means of finding exact figures, as lets face it most people wouldn’t be on Ubuntu’S forums if they didn’t have issues.

However the fact still remains that the release is causing problems, whether its a fresh install or an upgrade.

I believe that Ubuntu should address the issue properly, not just in their forums.

Upgraded ubuntu9.04 to 9.10; system has Athlon64,3.5, nvidia 7300.

This email is from another computer as evolution crashes as you click new email, or anything else except send/receive.

Audio has gone, taskbar shows mute sound at each boot, but still no sound when mute is shifted.

Printers not seen; can remedy this in CUPS, but at next boot they have gone again!

Cannot change display.

I guess as Evolution refuses to send that the estimate of problems is way under real %age.

Cant see any sign of awareness of what is a major problem on unbuntu forums, ( one said it’s Russian spell checking on in evolution that is the root, is there really anyone out there with Russian spellchecking on?

I intend to look at Mandriva. Thought occurred, could this be some malicious ware at work….?

Tomass above has hit the nail on the head regarding this article. Whats surpising is that you (Jamie, the author) has not even cared to read whats written underneath the very poll he is citing in bright red font:

The poll was merely to gauge how many people had issues and NOT to gauge the percentage of people who had issues. You are completely misrepresenting the poll and drawing invalid conclusions.

ive always used play to buy games as I know they send them earlyer and you usually get them before release date

Speaking from a mobile game developer… (myself)

unless they mean disc size the claim that this couldn’t be made on the xbox is just stupid the graphics on inFamous at nothing special.

However tech specs aside the ps3 is being used to the max and is producing the best games (UNCHARTED) who cares what the tech spec are like If there isn’t a game that takes advantage. Even tho I’m pretty sur ps rule on tech specs.

My pc is 8 times better than these consoles but is there a game that looks better than uncharted no way.

I upgraded to 9.10 like two days ago and I was using my wifi which is tethered from my g1 phone and it won’t connect even till now unless my husbands iphone is connected to my g1 it won’t recognize the signal as a connection, it comes up on the list of wifis around and it didn’t have this problem when I had the previous version? I don’t know what’s up with it but how can a program be released and not have these bugs that are so huge and noticeable I think you guys where trying space grass weren’t you ? Thanks for putting things in perspective, John.

I use both Windows & Ubuntu.

In my experience, I find Ubuntu is more safe and requires less maintenance than my Windows setup.

Upgraded form 9.04 to 9.10. But afterwards a new install
og Ubuntu Karmic. Problems with wireless, the driver
rt2870sta.ko worked not well. But now put rt2800usb on the
blacklist, together with rt2870sta. A manual install
of the driver and wireless works. But that each time after
a start of the system. ( I also tried to compile a new
driver, but there I got all kind of errors?)
Further problem is that my memory stick falls away sometimes?
In 9.04 there were never problems with that memory stick, but
now I’m not sure if he is still mounted after some time.
Manual mounting the memory stick gives also problems, no idea, what device has to be taken, sdb1, sdd1? None of them work, manually. Automatically they were found by Ubuntu.
Further strange names for the mounts of the memory stick,
instead of the /media/disk in 9.04.
May be I will wait the next time several months before
I upgrade to a newer version of Ubuntu.
As it goes at this moment I had not expected of Ubuntu,
most of the time it goes easier and less problems.

Area 51 was built way before the 50’s nobody but the goverment knows when. Another thing nobody knew about until the so called alien abductions and sightings occured in the mid to late fifties. One more thing there is a harpoon gun thats in the new map pack so my guess it will be near water. If you don’t believe go to cheatcc.com go under cod waw cheat codes and check it out.

YAYEH!!! oh n btw xbox live is the same as psn, actually, i get less lag on ps3 exclusives (killzone 2 , R2 n Uncharted 2) then the 360 exclusives (GoW LOL fails ass, ps3 wins and will fly past 360. end of story ps3 wins 360 fagboys. PS3 FTW

These so called analysts are totally brain dead. I have a both and XBOX360 and PS3. I will be buying it for the XBOX 360. XBL have much larger and fervent multiplayer base.
