ASUS Vito W1 wireless mouse keeps your heart pounding

August 8, 2008
Filed under Fitness Gadgets, Gadgets, USB Gadgets

This is a wireless mouse with a difference as for some reason Asus have decided to design a mouse that keeps track of your heart rate. I can understand watches that measure heart rate, but I’m not too sure what the demand is for a mouse that does it, obviously Asus have other plans.

Contained inside the Vit W1 mouse is a pulse rate sensor that will send collected information to your computer wirelessly, then using pre-installed software on your computer will determine whether you need medical attention or not, by using a series of emoticons on the screen.

As for the functions of the wireless mouse, it is accompanied by five buttons, 1200dpi sensitivity, a small usb receiver and a maximum range of 30 feet.

At the moment there is no word on pricing or nearby release on this product, so you’ll have to hold tight if you are planning on rushing to buy one.

I cannot see too many functions for this product, mind you, I suppose you could use your imagination with this one, what would you guys use a heart-rate monitoring mouse for hmmm? Post your comments below.

Asus Eee Stick: How Nintendo Wii Remote should look

August 7, 2008

When I first laid eyes on the Asus Eee Stick I thought it was a couple of new controllers for the Nintendo Wii. Ok so I am a little dumb, but I bet I was not the only one who thought it.

The name that Asus has chosen “Eee Stick” is a strange one as they are a couple of sticks that are mated to a wireless receiver. So what is the Eee Stick I hear you ask, well they are basically a gamepad that has been split in half. This is something that Sony had hoped to launch at some stage.

The Eee Stick has motion sensing technology like the Wii Remote; I bet Nintendo wish that they had designed theirs to look as sleek as these. Asus has said that tailored games that require the Eee Stick will come bundled in the controllers.

As yet there is no idea when the Eee Stick will be released, but Asus reps have hinted that the UK could see them sometime in September.

Asus will make an announcement in the next few weeks.

Luxeed Dynamic Pixel LED Keyboard: The coolest keyboard out there

August 6, 2008
Filed under Gadgets, News, USB Gadgets

There are a number of illuminated keyboards out there on the market but this one caught our key due to some of its capabilities. With 430 built in LED’s the Luxeed is capable of lighting each key individually in your choice of colour.

The craziness doesn’t stop there as it also has a feature which allows you to display an ‘animated rainbow’ across all of the keys, or make each key light up when pressed. When playing games, you can customise your keyboard using a choice of four preset buttons, create a glowing skin for your keyboard or even create illuminated patterns and designs.

There are choices of two colours for the Luxeed, each with its own unique features. The keys of the white Luxeed will have a semi-transparent look and light up more brightly than the black colour. The black version however has a more stylish feel to it with only the letters being illuminated.

Here is a summary of the features for this keyboard:

- Amazing illuminated keyboard features 430 LEDs and can dynamically change the colour of each key

- Set each key to any colour, or turn the light off on that key

- Create custom illuminated key layouts and quickly switch between them with 4 preset buttons

- Save key layouts on your hard drive and recall them later

- Features animated rainbow effect, or animated random key colours

- “Spark” mode allows keys to illuminate only when pressed

- Keypad Connects to Keyboard with included cable

- Keypad does not illuminate, only the full Keyboard

- Standard USB connection

- Keyboard Dimensions: 15″ x 7.5″ x 1″

- Keypad Dimensions: 4.25″ x 7.5″ x 1″

- Software Requires Windows XP or Vista (The Luxeed can function on other OS such as Mac or Linux as a regular USB keyboard, but the keys will not light up.)

Micro-chipped passports can be faked, Bin Laden fooled UN

August 6, 2008

A researcher has warned that biometric passport chips can be copied within an hour, if this is true then it seems micro-chipped passports are pretty much pointless. The UN was fooled when they saw a faked document with a picture of Bin Laden, not a good start then.

The micro-chipped passports were mainly designed to obviously protect identity theft which is a major concern at the moment by criminals and terrorists who can be easily faked.

New tests have shown that personal information could be copied/cloned and of course manipulated within an hour before being inserted into brand new chips.

Personally this is not good news; they need to come up with a new way of protecting identity theft without having any flaws in the system what so ever. The tests showed that bogus biometrics could be inserted in blank or fake passports.

What are your views on this matter?

Hands on with the Jabra JX20 Pura headset

Filed under Bluetooth Gadgets, Gadgets, Hands On

Over the past few years I have had a number of Bluetooth headsets, some I am too embarrassed to mention. Now I have had the chance to put something with a bit more quality in my ear. The earpiece that I am reviewing today is the Jabra JX20 Pura, this earpiece has been designed by Jacob Jensen.

It was just two years ago when Jabra wowed us with their JX10, this headset was small and elegant. Jabra has done it yet again with the JX20. From the moment I started to remove the Jabra JX20 Pura from the box, I could tell that although it was light the quality of the build was remarkable. You really have to hold one of these Bluetooth headsets in your hands to get an idea of just how light it is

Better Streaming: Sonos Zone Player Z90, ZP120 and BU150:

August 5, 2008
Filed under Gadgets, Home Audio, Storage

Sonos has recently announced their new products; Sonos has not announced hardware for a while now so we are taking note on these new ones. They have just announced the Z90, ZP120 and BU150 bundle.

The Z90 will set you back $350, ZP120 $500 and the BU150 bundle will be $1,000, the bundle will include both devices and the same original controller.

The main difference between them is that they now support SonosNet 2.0, which basically uses MIMO to double the wireless distance between nodes. The ZP120 is the amp-enabled aluminum-clad flagship model and is much lighter in weight which now leaves it a lot smaller than its predecessor; it will still be capable of driving 55W of sound.

Sonos are also giving us the 2.6 version of its desktop software which will index much more music than before giving a whopping 65k tracks total, it will also gibe new and existing users $200 in free music from sites like eMusic and Livedownloads.

Timex TS70B Clock Radio for Sansa e200 & c200

August 4, 2008
Filed under Audio & Video Gadgets, Gadgets

The Timex TS70B is a clock radio that is compatible with all Sansa e200 and c200 players. Normally clock radios are a bit on the boring side, but I have to say that once these players are docked they look very cool.

The Timex TS70B Clock Radio has a tower design and comes complete with remote, meaning you do not have to rush from your bed once the alarm goes off.

Do not worry if you do not own a Sansa e200 & c200 player as Timex have included a 3.5mm mini-jack, allowing you to connect other brands of MP3 players to the radio.

There are a few downsides to the Timex TS70B, the first being that you can’t wake up to your tunes on your MP3 player. You can only wake up to AM/FM radio or buzzer. The other downside is the sound, it does not like going loud but what do you expect for a clock radio.

Woot has the Timex TS70B Clock Radio on a one day special for just $29.99

Filed under Audio & Video Gadgets, Gadgets

The new Creative ZEN Mozaic music and video player was spotted last month and is finally on sale. There are three capacity versions to this player, 2GB, 4GB or 8GB.

The new Zen player sports a mosaic keypad; this one of a kind design makes the player stand out from all those other plan music and video players on the market.

The new Creative ZEN Mozaic Player certainly looks cool; it also has great features to back its looks up. You are able to play back your photos with a clear and sharp clarity on its 1.8-inch screen, this can be done while listing to your favorite tunes.

What makes the Creative ZEN Mozaic Player different to many of the other music and video players on the market is the addition of a built-in speaker; this means that you are able to share your music with others.

The new player comes in a choice of three colors, black, silver and pink; hopefully Zen will launch more colors later down the line.

The Creative ZEN Mozaic is very affordable, starting at $59.99 and going up to $79.99. Check out more details at Creative.

Step aside Segway: Make way for Toyota’s Winglet

August 2, 2008

Toyota has announced a new personal transporter designed to help people move about more easily in public areas.

Dubbed the ‘Winglet’, it is the first gadget to use the same navigation system, currently used by Dean Kamen’s Segway Transporter with the technology allowing self-balancing through gyroscopic sensors which detect the gentle directional tilts of a rider..sounds cool eh.

In terms of speed, the Winglet can reach a dizzy 3.7 miles per hour, which isn’t fast at all when compared to the Segway’s 12.5 MPH. Toyota will begin a testing period for this product at a few Japanese airports, and further distribution of the scooter will rely on positive feedback from its customers. It seems Toyota have had their hands busy since acquiring the robotics division from Sony last year.

Dell music player to battle with iPod in September

July 31, 2008
Filed under Audio & Video Gadgets, Gadgets

It is no secret that Dell wants to move into the personal media player business, this could be as early as September. Dell hopes that they will then be able to do battle with the likes of the Apple iPod. The Wall Street Journal newspaper cited many Dell officials by saying, Dell has been testing a digital music player and that it could go on sale as early as September.

Dell have a mountain to climb if they wish to topple iPods dominance in the media player market, many players from companies such as Microsoft and Sony have tried and failed.

The music player that Dell has been testing is said to have a small navigation screen, as well as basic button controls so that you can navigate through the music list.

The Wall Street Journal also reports that the Dell player will be able to connect online through a Wi-Fi connection. The price of the Player is likely to be in the region of $100, that around £50.

Let us hope that Dell do a better job that their last effort back in 2003. The DJ Ditty player was a huge disappointment, as it failed to impress the market.

Apple iPod Touch with GPS

Filed under Audio & Video Gadgets, Gadgets

Apple iPod Touch with GPS
Back in February Apple introduced the 32GB iPod Touch to the collection of 8GB and 16GB models. We know there will be another iPod Touch at some point and today we have a few clues.

The new beta iPhone and iPod 2.1 firmware hints at a new iPod Touch. It’s being reported that there are references to an unreleased iPod Touch known as iPod2,1.

The current iPod models are known as “iPod1,1″, and the first generation iPhone was known as “iPhone1,1″. These numbers are not changed when new storage sizes are introduced; it takes a few more features to introduce a new model like this. The latest iPhone 3G is known as “iPhone1,2″.

The shows that the new iPod Touch will carry more features, but what might these be? Its unlikely that Apple would want the new iPod Touch to overshadow the iPhone, so expect additions like GPS.

Would you like GPS features on a new iPod Touch?

Here we have a video that shows the Sphere in action, it is being demonstrated by Hrvoje Benko of Microsoft Research. For those of you who are not familiar with Sphere, it is the cousin of the Microsoft Surface tabletop computer. Surface is already being used in retail and hospitality settings.

When it comes to displays it seems that the only choices we now have are flat panel displays, but Microsoft wish to change this. Microsoft thinks that the Sphere is the answer.

The prototype of the Sphere in the video uses an internal projection and vision system; this is what brings the spherical computer display to life. You as the user are able to touch the Sphere with multiple fingers and hands

You are also able to manipulate photos as well as play games, spin a virtual globe or even watch a 360-degree video.

The Sphere is expected to go on show today at Microsoft’s Faculty Summit in Redmond.
