Apple iPhone SDK will have emulator with v1.2 codenamed Aspen running the show
March 11, 2008
Filed under Apple News, Cell Phone Information, News, iPhone News

We all know that the Apple iPhone SDK in fact includes the iPhone emulator making it much easier for developers to test their code without risking corruption of a real iPhone, but and a big fat but many of us will be totally satisfied with the current Apple iPhone v1.1.4 firmware.
Well the iPhone emulator gets to play with a brand new version which is unreleased at the moment of the iPhone firmware.
Ok what the hell am I going on about here, well to break it down the iPhone emulator’s Settings pane will indeed show that the Apple iPhone v1.2 (5A147p) is running the show, the new version is codenamed Aspen which is more consistent with the older iPhone OS codenames like for example the v1.1.1 was called the SnowBird and the v1.1.2 was Oktoberfest and last but not least the v1.1.3 was LittleBear.
Apple is now looking at pushing out the iPhone v2.0 firmware in June which will work well with the iPhone SDK and apps born from its development. The question is will Apple be good enough to release the Aspen sooner rather than later?

Apple no interest, Sun Microsystems say yes to Java on iPhone: Will it work?
March 10, 2008
Filed under Cell Phone Information, iPhone News

We found via Phones Review some important information. The Java Virtual Machine for the Apple iPhone which is being developed by Sun Microsystems plan on releasing the JVM some time after June which will enable Java Apps to run on the popular much loved device.
The JVM will be based on the Java Micro Edition (ME) version and Eric Klein, vice president of Java marketing at Sun said that Apple has not shown any interest whatsoever in enabling Java to run on the Apple iPhone, well Sun has stepped in to do the job themselves after having thought about Thursday’s release of an SDK for the iPhone by Apple.
The thing is now that the Apple iPhone is open as a target platform the free JVM would be made available via Apple’s AppStore marketplace for third-party applications.
Sun Said that they will make sure that the JVM offers Java apps with much access to the native functionality of the iPhone as possible. By bringing the JVM to the iPhone, Java capabilities in area such as SSL security could be brought to Apple’s platform, said analyst Chris Silva of Forrester Research.
“I think going forward, with the SDK, it takes out of Apple’s control which applications are ‘right’ for the iPhone,” Silva said.
Will it work? And does the Apple iPhone need Java?
