Large Hadron Collider Troubles: Helium leak partly to blame

The biggest experiment of all time seems to have troubles, the Large Hadron Collider or LHC for short has had troubles before it has really began to start and it seems that fried wiring and helium leaks are to blame.

The equipment failure is a major setback; this has come only mine days after it all begun where particles around its 16.6 mile (27km) track. The damage will obviously delay research at the particle accelerator for approximately two months.

The Large Hadron Collider operators were putting the newly installed electrical circuits through rigorous paces on Friday when they noticed that there was indeed a helium leak between the Alice and CMS detectors. For the full story please visit Ars Technica.

Veoh court decision favorable to Google and YouTube

We all knew that the decision of the U.S. district court judge of the copyright infringement case involving Veoh was unprecedented. As a result it is also a favorable outcome for Goggle and Youtube, as well as all over user-generated sites.

The result still does not mean that Google will win out in this $1 billion copyright suit, which has been filed against Viacom, the parent company of MTV and Paramount Pictures. Read more

Best Western has increased online security worries

The Best Western saga has proved one thing; it was the massive security mix-up. These security breaches are now getting more common, but what can we do to try and slow it down or put an end to it.

Credit Crunch has hit cinema giant IMAX

Imax, the Canadian company we know for the giant-screen movie theatre systems reported a second quarter loss. The company said that this is mainly due to the investments it has made in the new digital technology.

Three AMC Entertainment theaters had digital projection systems delivered and installed by Imax based in Ontario. The systems were to be installed in the Ikast Quarter but this didn’t happen.

The company lost $12.2 million which is 29 cents on a share, in the period ending the 30th June, for the same period last year the loss was at $4.5 million down 11 cents a share.

Imax reported revenue decreased from $27.1 million down to $21.2 million.

As the credit crunch effects us all, people just can’t afford to go to the cinema regularly anymore, they have to miss out on the 3D experience in a bid to look after their finances.

Imax hinted that as lot of their success was down to the Spiderman 3 last year, which made a huge impact on its Q2 2007 figures, with last year’s figures looking so good it in turn has made this year’s figures look low.

But with the release of “The Dark Knight” the new Batman film they are hoping this will push the revenue up this quarter.

Imax said that they will still be looking to install around 50 digital systems by the end of 2008 and they are on track to do so.

Matthew McConaughey rumored to star in Magnum P.I. movie?

I know that the rumor of a Magnum P.I. movie has been doing the rounds for almost two years now. Well now there are fresh rumors, one of which is that Matthew McConaughey could end up playing Thomas Magnum an ex-Navy Seal who is now a P.I.

Although the idea of a P.I. walking around Hawaii wearing an Hawaiian shirt did not sound cool, I for one loved it. The best thing was his Ferrari 308 GTS that he drove.

A script is now rumored to be floating around written by Rawson Thurber, you know the guy who gave us Dodgeball. It is thought that at this moment Matthew McConaughey is now reading the script. Don’t expect Tom Selleck to make a cameo in the new Magnum movie, as he has feels that the role should just die out.

Vin Diesel damages Honda S2000 filming The Fast and the Furious 4

While on the set of The Fast and the Furious 4, Vin Diesel was filming a scene in the Honda S2000. However things did not go according to plan as he damaged the car, maybe he was trying a bit too hard to get the scene to look cool.

The damage that Vin Diesel caused on the Honda S2000 was a damaged headlight, hood, bumper and fender. Looks like the crew will be working hard to get the car ready for the next scene. Let us hope that this film will be better than the previous two, as the Fast and the Furious movies lost a little something when Vin Diesel moved on to other projects.

Strange but true the Aperta did not make an appearance at the New York Auto Show 2008 last week which is quite surprising seeing as this is a cool green futuristic looking car which can do 300MPG.

But hey who cares because the latest rumor and the best one we have heard in a while is that the 300MPG Aptera car will star in the new Star Trek Movie, if their will ever be a Star Trek movie that is.

The photo above was secretly taken and does look like the Aperta, so put the two together and we say we are onto something here. The real Aperta is below.

Sony Blu-ray sales increasing thanks to blockbuster movies

Sony Blu-ray sales increasing
It looks like the sales of Sony Blu-ray discs are increasing and this is in part thanks to more blockbuster movies being released, but lets face it who would want to buy expensive old movies just because they are in Blu-ray. HMR Research has new data which shows 3 million Blu-rays have been sold in the first 11 weeks of 2008 compared to 9 million movies for all of 2007, this means we could be looking at 15 million Blu-ray movies sold in 2008.

Recent blockbusters like “No Country for Old Men” sold 68,000 Blu-ray copies in one week and “Juno” is coming to Blu-ray on April 15th and could be massive as well. With HD-DVD dead it looks like it’s all up from here.

New Star Trek Movie: Simon Pegg as starship Enterprise chief engineer Scotty

Simon Pegg joins Star Trek Movie
It looks like the British actor “Simon Pegg” will be joining the crew of the new Star Trek Movie; he will be joining as the Scottish starship Enterprise chief engineer Scotty. The Star Trek prequel will include Simon Pegg in a role that he has said “the late James Doohan, who played the role in the original 1960s TV series, is the quintessential Scotty, and he plays the character the same way”.

J.J. Abrams will direct the new Star Trek Movie and it will focus on the early years (not as early as the last TV Show), but in the years of James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock. Lets hope it’s a good watch as many of us miss Star Trek on our screens. You never know, we could see another TV Show if the movie goes well.

War of the Worlds 2 The Next Wave: looks like a cheap B movie

War of the Worlds 2 The Next Wave
Its really hard where to start with this one as War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise was an amazing film and it was not just because of Tom, it was because of the money spent on it. Follow-ups to movies are not always that good, but War of the Worlds 2 The Next Wave looks like a cheap B movie and a complete embarrassment to the Tom Cruise version.

You can view a recent movie trailer below of War of the Worlds 2 The Next Wave; you got to love the special affects at the end (photo above). It could have been so much better with some more money, why did they bother making it?
