Today in a New York court the battle over the publication of a Harry Potter encyclopaedia will be heard.

The Harry Potter Lexicon that is based on the internet fan site has been delayed until a judge rules on whether the reference book is the copyright on her novels held by Warner Bros or violation of author JK Rowling’s intellectual property rights.

The book, by Steve Vander Ark was due to be published on the 28th November 2007
But the judge issued an order at an earlier hearing banning completion, marketing, distribution or advance sales of the book until further notice.

If Steve Vander Ark wins JK Rowling said she will “find it devastating to contemplate the possibility of such a severe alteration of author-fan relations“.
