Acer vs Dell: PC sales chart

Acer’s ever growing dominance has apparently now moved them to second place in the worlds PC Sales Chart. This is the first time a non- US company has ever made it this high. This puts Dell under a lot of pressure and may be the reason that Dell seem to have adopted some of the same strategies that Acer have been thriving off.

Acer who are based in Taiwan have concentrated on supplying PCs, laptops and netbooks with a low retail price, moderate performance and sleek design, that said Acer do offer a wide range of high performance machines too, however this doesn’t seem to be what they have relied on to see this growth.

One of the major attributes to this recent growth is with the Acer Aspire One which is currently the best selling Netbook on the market, Acer now seem to be experimenting with expanding their hardware expertise to the smartphone market, this may be a way off yet but shows how they quickly adapt to the market. Google Voice New Invitations

Earlier this week we posted news on Google Voice, now Google have started sending invitations out to users who have previously shown interest in the product, a public release is due soon however Google tends to release their software privately at first to ensure a smooth public release.

The service takes over from the former Grand Central service, which was acquired by Google back in July 2007. The biggest reason why people are interested in Google Voice is because it will allow users to make free domestic calls in the U.S. One limitation at the moment is whether your handset supports the software, however as time goes on I’m sure it will become more widely available.

For the full report head over to InformationWeek, and be sure to check out Google for an in-depth look into the functionality, you can also sign up to receive an invite for the program here.
