We have known for some time that Sony was to release an OLED walkman, but as yet we had no idea as to the release date. We can now tell you that you can now pre-order a 16GB and 32GB X Series Walkman Video MP3 Player for $299.99 and $399.99 respectively.

Amazon will ship the OLED walkman on July 3, 2009, while Sony will start shipping tomorrow, July 2, 2009. SoftSailer have remarked that they do not think purchasing the new Sony Walkman would be a great idea, as the iPod Touch now has the new iPhone OS 3.0, which brings with it a host of improvements.

Microsoft also has its new Zune HD, which is certain to have a host of features that are better than the new OLED Sony Walkman. If you still wish to go for the Sony device, then you will be pleased to know that the device comes with 100 free MPs downloads.

Just a last bit of advice, Amazon are offering free shipping and a discount, not sure how much though.

Whether this is an indication of a possible future iPod version or something that has been blown out of proportion is yet to be seen however a while back a reference to an iPhone 2.1 model was found, this turned out to be the iPhone 3GS. If this does in-fact turn out to be an indication of a new version of the iPod chances are Apple will release it in September.

The video can be seen below or on Engadget‘ s website.

The video shows off its robust look, along with the small design, however in my opinion the two features that stand out the most is the extremely bright OLED display and the extremely quick OS which seems instantaneous.

Whether the Zune HD will ever compete against the iPod Touch is yet to be seen, but I really like the look of the Zune HD and reports state that there have been no issues discovered so far, even with its HD video playback, don’t forget to check out the gallery on Engadget.

The new Zune will have an OLED touchscreen display and a high-definition output, there is also a version of Internet Explorer that will be part of Windows Mobile 6.5 installed on the device. Oh did we forget to mention that the Zune HD would come with HD Radio.

Cnet News had a word with the marketing team from Zune, and they did not have much more to add to about the device that we already know. Microsoft did not plan to give any information out so early, but said that they had to set its expectations for Zune customers. Well let’s face it; it has been one of the worst kept secrets.

Sony Insider thought that it would be worth a closer look, so have found some internal shots for its readers to look inside.

What else apart from the OLED screen does the Sony OLED X-Series Walkman have what is going for it, the first thing that springs to mind is its 250MHz NEC MP201 ARM processor. It is not certain how much memory is in the device, but Sony Insider expects it to have at least 256MB, maybe more.

The new MP201 chip that is inside this new PMP is perfect for this advanced digital audio and video player. It also makes it easier for users to download audio content. As yet there is no news as to when the Sony OLED X-Series Walkman will be released

Let us hope that it gets a better camera than its smartphone. AppleInsider also reports that the next iPhone will retain the same form factor.

Apple are all set to replace its iPod Touch and Nano players later this year, we could be looking at a possible September release date. Adding a camera to the iPod Touch is the next logical step, this would double the amount of apps that the Touch would be able to use.

The next iPhone will also help to increase app downloads from the iTunes App Store, as it will be getting video recording capabilities, something that has been wanted for a long time now. Apple looks set to gain the market share once more, if the Nano and Touch gets a camera, not the competition will have to regroup, maybe Microsoft has already done so, with rumors of the Zune HD.

The problem is do you hold off on purchasing the new Palm Pre or the rumored iPhone 3.0 in favor of the new Zune device.

There have been a number of rumors of a new Zune HD device, and a Twitter update reckons that we could see the new device next month. Neowin explains that the Twitter has been made by the Microsoft Office 2010 team, seems strange how they are not working hard on their own product launch.

In the Twitter, is says, “June 2009 will be an important month for Zune lovers.” This could also have something to do with the Zune services for Windows Mobile, which is codenamed “Pink.” This means that we could even see a Zune Phone. We will just have to wait and see.

According to The Apple Blog, the iPod Touch plays a huge part for U.S. soldiers working in Iraq.

The reason why soldiers are using this device is because it is so versatile, and has now started to replace or augment a number of soldier’s standard kit. The iPod Touch is also very cheap when you look at other hardware for the U.S. solider.

Apart from the cheap price of the Apple device, the iPod Touch is also lightweight and durable, two things that are important to the military. An Army official based in Baghdad has reportedly told Newsweek that opposing forces are yet to hack the Touch.

The U.S. soldier will find a number of apps for his iPod Touch that will be very useful to him while on tour, such as ballistics calculation, image recognition, networking/communication, surveillance, tactical mapping, translation and much more.

Details of the new device are hard to come by, so we hope to get some soon.

We know that we are close to hearing that the new Zune will be launched soon, as Engadget was sent some screencaps of a marketing campaign. We know that Zune HD will be the next version of Microsoft’s portable media player, but it seems as if they are keeping mum for now.

We can expect to see some leaked shots of the Zune HD soon, this will then give as an idea as to the size, weight and specification of the device. It is also assumed that a new release of an updated software version will make the Zune platform even better; it will also offer improvements to the Zune Marketplace.

United States President Obama gave the Queen an iPod, what great marketing is that for Apple? It’s just another point for the iPod when compared to the Zune. Why do you think Obama gave an iPod and not a Zune?

Yes this matters as its little things like this that can sway a consumer’s choice when buying portable media players.

The Queen’s iPod had photos and video on it from the queen’s 2007 visit to United States historical sites. If you own a Zune, let us know why you prefer it to an iPod.

Apple have posted a couple of jobs recently for a Camera Project Manager for the iPhone, this shows that Apple are now thinking more seriously about having a camera in its iPhone and iPod Touch. It is no secret that the Touch is laking a camera but the real shocker is the underperforming camera in the iPhone 3G.

The news that Apple are looking to add a camera to its iPod Touch will bring the device in closer feature parity with the iPhone 3G. The funny thing is, Ars Technica tell us that the posting has now been edited to remove the word iPod, so either Apple have changed their mind, or maybe the posting was not accurate.

If the rumors are true of the iPod Touch getting a camera, it is doubtful that a camera will make it on to the new model, which is due out in the summer. Developing something new on a device such as an iPod Touch takes at least a year or more.

Do you want a camera on an iPod Touch?

There has also been some information of the Archos 4. The Archos 2 player is now up on Amazon and you can pre-order the device for $59.99.

The price above is for the 8GB version; there is also a microSD expansion and a 1.8-inch 128 x 160 screen. The small device measures just .35-inch thick. A 16GB version has appeared on Amazon’s French website and has a price tag of €68 ($92), we are not certain when it will make it onto the US Amazon website.

There is more mystery surrounding the Archos 4 personal media player, we do know that it will have a 4-inch screen and a choice of 16 to 32GB storage.
