MacBook Air v1.2 Firmware Update: compatibility for replacement batteries
According to AppleInsider Apple recently released a firmware update for its MacBook Air notebooks, this firmware update is said to add support for a new series of replacement batteries.
The firmware update is an extremely small download and makes changes in Mac OS X 10.5.7 to modify the way the micro-controller on the logic board controls power functions and a few other settings. Read more
Samsung NVIDIA Ion-powered netbook
Earlier today Engadget seemed to suggest that Samsung are developing a new NVIDIA Ion powered netbook platform. Well since that report CNET have now stated that Samsung have confirmed these rumors. Apple and Dell sealed-in laptop batteries
When Apple and Dell started releasing laptops with sealed in batteries in general it was frowned upon by many experts.
There were two main reasons for this disagreement, one of the points experts made was if the battery became faulty or stopped holding its charge it wouldn’t be user-swappable, the second reason was that a lot of users carry spare batteries when they are on flights as there are no facilities to charge. Lenovo IdeaPad U350: hands-on review
Last month Lenovo announced a new affordable alternative to the Lenovo T400, the IdeaPad U350. There is now a brief review on Engadget including a gallery of photos.
Early indications report that the laptop has an outer-shell which has been manufactured with great craftsmanship, not using the glossy cheap plastic materials usually associated with most low end thin-and-light budget laptops.
One major consideration when designing this laptop was to be a contender in the ever growing CULV (Consumer Ultra-Low Voltage) market, there is not a huge amount of information on the hardware at present however it is understood that the U350 uses an Intel chipset which are known for having better power consumption, the laptop also has a HDMI output. The U350 is also under an inch thick and has a 13.3” display, a wide range of hardware specifications are available and the starting price is understood to be around $650.

ASUS Eee PC 1005HA review and first impressions

Overall the general hardware and performance of the 1005HA is very similar to its predecessor (1008HA). One aesthetic difference they have smoothed out is that they have replaced the deep set ports with plastic covers used on the 1008HA with easier to access standard ports, although this makes it look slightly less sleek,from a functionality point of view it is an improvement.
