Kavaj may not be a well-known maker of iPhone and iPad accessories although their attendance during CES 2013 has accumulated plenty of attention. For a great price with quality leather, the company behind this has made some great additions to accompany your beloved Apple products.

Talking about their latest Kavaj iPhone 5 case we get the impression that those over on Techno Buffalo feel their own leather case has been in constant use since they acquired a review sample, and have nothing but great things to say about it. To start they love the snug fit this gives their phone along with the useful magnetic function that allows them to keep their screen covered while it is in the pocket or in transit.

With holes provided for the camera, speakers and lightning port, they question why the leather also covers the volume up/down and power buttons, even though control of the phone is still maintained without issue. There are two slots on the back for things like credit cards and business cards or even paper money, in their initial experience of the case itself, it took about a day to loosen up and mould perfectly to the phone.

To start off, the flap covering the screen did not completely cover and stretch across the display, but after a day or two this problem was gone. While they go over the iPhone 5 case with a fine toothcomb, there are some things they feel are worth mentioning, like the seam starting to come off the cover flap after only a few weeks and this gives them cause to question the overall quality and how long it would take to deteriorate.

With a retail price of $34.90 from Amazon, they regard the iPhone 5 Kavaj case as on par with several plastic cases they have experienced, although this is viewed as a classier looking case.

According to some owners, this case tends to cover up the iPhone’s design too much and some use it as a bumper, although the design of the phone and the leather case are hard to show off at the same time. Have you been looking for a leather iPhone 5 case?

A new iPad 4 case from Audojo is said to transform your iPad into the ultimate gaming machine, with real analog joysticks and trigger buttons, but this Kickstarter project is way off the mark to hit the $240,000 goal even though many have welcomed it. This is the ideal iPad 4 case, aka Retina model, for those who love the gaming aspect and going by the response we feel that their target figure is achievable considering this is designed with the majority in mind.

We understand a lot of people prefer the dedicated joysticks and trigger buttons with their games, which means some gamers are less likely to come away from their console or PC to play a game on the iPad thanks to the touch controls. With the Audojo iPad 4 case, gaming is more attractive and using your tablet as a gaming machine is ideal with an accessory like this, so we expect more backers to pledge more money by the 21st of February deadline.

In an article on KickStarter.com, they mention other websites commenting about how good this is especially for those who love playing console games, as the iPad has not really reflected this experience up until now, but now the tablet gamer can receive the best of both worlds.

The familiar feel and precision control of joysticks and buttons has become a prominent feature in gaming and without them, many feel that the immersion is not there. However, this iPad 4 case by Audojo will not only give us the joysticks and buttons required but the touchscreen and multi-touch gestures will add even more to world of gaming.

The project in question has only received $27,530 from backers, at the time of writing, so there is still someway to go to achieve the $240,000 goal, and details of this can be seen through the above link to their official site. Do you feel that ideas like this one from Audojo will make FPS games more approachable on tablets?

New DNA pellets used by law enforcement officers will be able to tag certain individuals with a special SelectaDNA code so they can continue to search for an assailant sometime after their initial getaway. This new tagging system has been launched by a leading forensic marketing company from the UK to assist the identification of criminals at arms length, according to Selectamark Managing Director Andrew Knights.

The new high velocity DNA pellet trace system is available in both pistol and rifle formats, which means criminals can be tagged from a safe distance with a tagging gun. This will help police and law enforcement officers identify an individual in a crowd or from a distance. The new idea recently launched at The SHOT Show, Las Vegas, by Selectamark the innovative UK security company that believes the product is a great way to mark certain members involved in crowd control problems, which can be actively apprehended because of this unique marking.

A safe distance of around 30-40 meters is the suggested distance to tag a potential target with either pistol or rifle, and this will help officers apprehend an offender at a later date when the situation at hand is less confrontational. Andrew Knights mentions the uniquely coded SelectaDNA solution, which leaves a synthetic DNA trace mark for enforcers to confirm or eliminate those involved in a criminal activity.

This could be used as evidence in the arrest and prosecution of offenders in the future, therefore making the job of law enforcement easier and more direct in its approach to tracking down a perpetrator after the event. Powered by 12g powerlet with up to 20 shots in each for the pistol version, the SelectaDNA pellets come in packs of 14 pellets to a container all containing the same unique DNA code, and can be used in rifles as well as pistols.

More details on this can be viewed on Selecta DNA including the recent launch, we have also embedded a video of this in action at the bottom of our post. The video shows a mark left after being shot shown up under a UV light, although we are unsure how long this mark takes to disappear or whether it will penetrate certain forms of clothing.

If the DNA marking can stay on skin or clothing for a number of weeks this could be used to catch certain criminals sometime after the offence, so once this becomes apparent we could see situations like last summer’s UK riots disperse quicker once those involved know that they can be tracked down at a later date. Do you think this DNA trace system is a great way to stop some crowd situations from escalating?

When you look at some of the iPhone 5 cases on the market, there are so many to choose from with a lot of them lacking in certain departments, whether it is the materials used, the look of the design or just the overall quality. The Blade 2 ultra slim hard shell case adds protection to both the front and back without making it look any chunkier. Available for pre-order the Blade 2 will begin shipping on February 14th, so could this be the ideal Valentines gift for your partner?

We find that many iPhone 5 owners love the new design so much that they are less likely to buy a case that will cover its beautiful design, and this is where the Blade 2 case still allows your phone to be seen without adding too much bulk to the end product. Highlighting details of this XGear Live informs us that the two-piece plastic shell is transparent and snaps together with an ultra-thin design of only 0.024 inches.

Cutouts are provided for access to all ports and buttons and the corners are sturdy protectors for those accidental drops and bumps accumulated throughout your daily routine. For only $24.99 this case is said to be compatible with AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. The Blade 2 iPhone 5 case features an anti-scratch coating that allows owners to still see the design with less chance of scratches forming after weeks of use.

Your precious device doesn’t always get the protection it requires without bulking up the original design, but with the Blade 2 iPhone 5 case you can still see the design and protect it without increasing the size too much.

Is the Blade 2 the sort of minimalist case you were looking for? There is a clear version and a smoky one for those intending to pre-order soon.

Finding out who is legitimate on Twitter’s free Vine app is assisted with the six-second videos seen on verified Twitter accounts, giving users the opportunity to narrow down whether they’re run by a company or just some opportunistic individual. This has prompted Vine to try out different ideas to verify accounts with the addition of Twitter badges to cut down the amount of fakers and install more confidence with its users.

According to Vine’s co-founder and creative director, Rus Yusupov, the Twitter-verified badge-style stamp intends to be an ideal way to ascertain the legitimacy of high-profile so-called Viners. In an article on Mashable, high profile users will be able to tell the difference between fakers and the legitimate people they are searching for.

With not too much in the way of privacy settings, there is an option to create a video within the Vine app and share it with others confidentially, while users will also have the chance to send it to their friends directly from your iPhone or iPod touch Camera Roll. As time goes on, we can see that many new improvements will be contemplated in an aim to create a better app with various enhancements, and a new site called Vinepeek currently lets users view a real-time stream of vines. Although we must inform our readers that this site is unfiltered, so some adult content may make its way to you.

Last week we spoke about the Vine app eventually making its way to Android devices and even though this free application is currently only available on iOS, Vice President, Michael Sippey says this app has been considered for other platforms, therefore we expect this to make an appearance sometime soon. Do you feel Twitter’s Vine app will be more attractive once it is available on all platforms?

Late last week we heard news that Belkin has entered an agreement to buy Cisco’s Home Networking Business Unit. This means they will take over all of their proven brands including Cisco’s Linksys business and the talented employees. According to Chet Pipkin, CEO of Belkin, the two organizations share similar beliefs with the passion to meet the real needs of their customers, therefore they aim is to make Belkin a leader in the connected home and wireless networking space.

This is another step to add to their vision as they intend to maintain and build on the strong Linksys brand and continue to show support for their products after the transaction closes. In an article on Belkin.com they highlight how the company account for around 30% of the U.S. retail home and small business networking market, and they aim to keep Linksys’ market a growing presence.

With Linksys being one of the leading home networking providers Hilton Romanski, VP Corporate Business Development at Cisco, feels this strategic relationship with Belkin will assist the growth of Linksys’ current position creating new opportunities for consumers, distribution partners and resellers making it the strongest retail presence in the U.S. networking marketplace.

In addition, Pipin also said, Belkin will have access to a large install base taking full advantage of the new technologies that will come with the likes of smartphones, tablets, notebooks and other home automation arenas. Do you feel the acquisition of Cisco’s Linksys business will give Belkin the opportunity to become an even bigger name in the world of home networking technology?

Now that plenty of rotating cases have come on the market for the Nexus 7, we thought it would be a good idea to run through some of the great cases available with the help of video demonstrations to get an overall visual review. It’s worth contemplating that some are better than others, although we understand that the individual may have specific needs or requirements.

The first one to look at is the MoKo 360 case, which the demonstrator picked up from $12 on Amazon and the YouTube video below may be a bit hard to understand but we get the gist of what the reviewer is trying to put across. Listening to the whole video it seems his main gripe is mainly to do with the tablet itself, although we understand he was impressed with the overall use of the case regarding it as sturdy and secure with a tough leather style covering.

In the second video, they obtained their rotating case for $19 dollars on eBay, which fits perfectly, and all the keys and buttons are easy to reach once it is in the case as well as the features. Generally, the dock connectors are a bit harder to reach, although he explains that both the case and the dock are not required at the same time. With a sleep wake up function this case comes highly recommended from someone that uses it all the time.

The last video has no explanation as such, but shows three different colored versions being used and the orange and pink ones look like the type of quality that will accumulate plenty of female interest as they also look like an attractive accessory for when you are on the move. Additionally, Proporta has just launched a new 360-degree Swivel case as well and this is worth mentioning because of the reduced price down from £24.95 to £14.95. The new Nexus 7 case from Proporta is available with a screen protector for £19.93, and details of this can be seen on Propota.com.

Describing this version as durable and luxurious they also mention how good it looks, made from a fine faux-leather the rotating stand feature allows use in both portrait and landscape angles and an elastic strap inside the case can be used to prevent it opening in transit. If you have obtained a decent rotating case for a reasonable price that seems better than those shown in the videos below, please let us know what your overall impression is and how much you paid.

In a brief overview of some of the best smartphones to release in 2012 the likes of the Nexus 4, Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5 have all been compared and questions have been asked to find out the best. While some phones have certain features that are specific to the individuals needs, it is worth contemplating what device brings the best value, so we have embedded a few video reviews to assist those who require help choosing between Nexus 4 vs. Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5.

The first video draws comparisons between all three but also adds the Nokia Lumia 920 into the mix as a viable competitor to the aforementioned smartphones. The Lumia 920 has a dual core processor and handles Windows 8 software with speed and style, although the detail from the camera haven’t been regarded as mind-blowing. The Galaxy S3 is said to be one of the quickest with a quad core chip, 2GB of RAM and a brilliant camera, while the camera on the iPhone 5 is classed as the best of the lot.

In tests, the Nexus 4 is even faster than the Galaxy S3 and the opportunity to take 360 photos is a great feature for some people. Both the Nexus 4 and the Lumia 920 are credited for having wireless charging, while the S3 is the only one to offer expandable storage via micro SD cards. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is well received for its massive screen and rapid speed and just about edges it, even though they are all equally expensive. Adding all features to the equation, including price, the Nexus 4 seems to be the one that stands out the most, while the popular and easy to use iPhone 5 also has some great features.

The second video review relates to the first three phones mentioned and the Samsung Galaxy S3 is classed as a better device, with Apple’s iPhone 5 coming close, yet they still regard the Nexus 4 as a worthy contender making the final decision hard. In the third video they compare the specs involved, which is insightful for those wanting to know the capabilities of each.

We suggest you watch the videos below to get a visual understanding of what each phone offers, and with the Nexus 4 entering a crowded marketplace for a very reasonable price we are intrigued to know if any of the videos have changed your mind about what device to get next?

The new standalone video-sharing app for iPhone called Vine has recently been launched by Twitter, which allows users to share clips up to six seconds in length that play on a loop within tweets. Currently a free application for the iPhone is available through the App Store, although there’s every intention to launch Twitter’s Vine app on Android.

According to a blog by Vice President of product, Michael Sippey, says the app has been considered for other platforms and will be coming sometime soon. The specifics of Vine’s social video application are documented on The Guardian viewing it as an iPhone only app for the time being, although company co-founder Dom Hofmann discusses the aim of this being more about abbreviation for people to enjoy quirky little windows into the people, settings, ideas and items that are used in everyday life.

Those of you who are not taken by Twitter’s new video app may want to find out more and this can be viewed in a hands-on experience on Mashable, which delivers some interesting insight after they performed tests by uploading videos to social networks. The reviewer explains that some went up immediately while others took sometime.

When it comes to video recordings in a noisy area the sound can be jarring and intense for viewers, therefore this works much better if you are recording in a quiet location. Have you experienced the Vine video app? If so let us know your thoughts.

Insight from sources relating to Verizon mention plans for the company to stock a high-end Nokia Lumia phone in 2013, this offering will deliver a device similar to that of the existing Nokia Lumia 920 as a variant codenamed Laser. While many feel this is a fitting name, which relates to Verizon’s Droid branding there is a notion that Microsoft is planning to back this heavily.

The Nokia Laser is expected to be a flagship device for Verizon and this means they will intend to market it alongside rival top tier devices, although there has been no further details when Nokia were questioned about this. Details of this can be seen on The Verge where their readers react to the images, remarking on how square the handset looks and because Pantech released the Laser in 2011 this has given us reason to question whether the name Laser will actually just remain a codename.

According to rumors, the Laser will be debuting alongside another Nokia handset called “Catwalk“, which is also said to be another variant of the Lumia 920. The Catwalk is said to be a Lumia 920 encased in an aluminum body. We are still unsure what differences will be involved with the Laser in comparison to the Lumia 920, although with heavy backing from Microsoft we can see the so-called Laser being announced sometime soon.

MWC 2013 is taking place next month and this is the ideal place to make an official announcement. What are your thoughts on the rather square looking Nokia Laser?
