Bauhn 55″ UHD 4K Smart TV review with HDR warning

By Alan Ng - Nov 23, 2017

We know that many of you will be frantically searching for the best price on a 4K TV in the UK right now, as retailers look to cut prices in the hope that you choose to shop with them.

We are taking a look at another 4K TV model now, this one from an unfamiliar brand you may not have heard of before. This is the Bauhn 55″ UHD 4K Smart TV sold at Aldi for £429.99 as a Special Buy online.

Bauhn is an Australian electronics manufacturer who sell direct to Aldi and this 55-inch model is sure to attract a lot of attention for the low price involved.

Bauhn 55″ UHD 4K Smart TV ATVS55-0316 specs include a 55-inch display with an Ultra HD resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, 60hz native refresh rate, 3 HDMI ports, HDCP 2.2, Freeview and built-in WiFi for Smart apps.

On the downside though, this display only has a contrast ratio of 4300:1, a response time of 8ms and it does not support HDR which is a major feature missing from any 4K TV set.

As a result, we can’t recommend it as a good gaming TV on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X as you won’t be able to output in HDR which is a key feature of both of the new consoles, so it will be disappointing for many of you we expect.

We also know from past buyers that trying to get a Bauhn ATVS55-0316 software update for the 55-inch UHD 4K Smart TV is a nightmare as well, since you need to do everything manually and have a USB stick on hand – you can see Bauhn’s instructions on how to do this here, but if they don’t release regular support pages such as this one, you are stuck we’re afraid.

The final nail in the coffin potentially, is that finding information on this TV is like finding a needle a haystack. At the time of writing there are currently no Bauhn 55″ UHD 4K Smart TV reviews online anywhere and Aldi’s feedback on this model is completely blank.

If you are considering this TV, we suggest you approach with caution first as there are some serious shortcomings with this model that may ultimately conclude that your £429.99 is better spent elsewhere.
