New Casio WSD-F20 revealed, battery life MIA

By Jordan Milham - Jan 9, 2017

Casio has just revealed the WSD-F20 smartwatch and while the battery life isn’t being listed within the specs sheet, we do know a little about this watch designed for very active people. It doesn’t look that different from the outdoor smartwatch they revealed at last years CES however, the software inside this ruggedised time piece is running on Android Wear 2.0.

This watch is amongst one of the first 2.0 devices to surface and also comes equipped with low-power GPS and colour maps that are able to be downloaded offline.

The WSD-F20 has a very similar design to the original Casio however, they’ve added button guards and a new protective bezel. When it comes to usability the buttons are now a different size that helps differentiate while using it.

When it comes to apps Casio has developed things that the Pro-Trek watch does best, with fishing, hiking, and cycling features are all well represented.

When it comes to tracking and assistance apps, there’s something called ‘Location Memory’. This gives you a one-button location read out and also doubles as a location marker. You’re able to add notes to these tagged spots as well as through voice recognition on the smartwatch. During this, a feature called ‘Moment Setter’ allows you to pre-program notifications, making the watch display light up depending on sunset times and remaining altitude left to climb. You’ll also be able to choose more original face designs that are tapped into the low-power GPS of offline maps.

Given this watch may not be for everyone, its an unapologetic ruggedised smartwatch, and it must have been popular enough for Casio to make a sequel.

We agree at $499, the WDS-F20 isn’t meant for an average consumer wanting to try smartwatches, although they can try a different range of Android Wear devices for that. Take a look at the full feature list on the official Casio website.
