The rumour mill has been going mad in recent months concerning the release of the Surface Phone, and while there had been hope to see its release last month, Microsoft’s Surface Studio AIO was still made to feel very welcome, and so was the Dial device.
It’s the latter that has us most interested because while it would be nice for Microsoft to give us some sort of timescale as to the release of the Surface Phone, there are some people out there that feel it would be better for Microsoft to surprise us and just make an announcement without people knowing before hand, just as they did with Dial.
We know that it is all well and good thinking this, but let’s face it, there is a huge microscope on Microsoft’s upcoming handset because it has to succeed, seeing as though this is surely going to be the last try for the company in the smartphone market because of previous troubles.
In terms of the latest Surface Phone news there are reports from Commercial Times of Taiwan that ODM Pegatron is already running production trials of this device. They also report that the handset will either be released in either late 2017 or early in 2018.
It would be easy for us to say Microsoft would be better to release the handset later in 2017 around the October period. However, waiting that little bit longer and getting things right is often a far better option – something we bet Samsung wished they did with the Galaxy Note 7.
