Morrisons petrol price war with Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury’s

By Peter Chubb - Nov 21, 2016

Over the past couple of months we have seen the price of a litre of Diesel and Petrol rise. Like always these fuel companies do it in a way that you do not see it, so a penny rise here and there. The reason for this is because the price of a barrel of oil has been increasing, and we tend to see that increase almost instantly at the pumps in the UK. However, since Donald Trump’s shock win to become President of the United States, that price of a barrel of oil started to fall, yet that saving was not passed on at the pumps.

Asda is doing Black Friday deals

Having said that, there are savings to be made, although only from supermarket’s as many of them have launched a pre-Christmas petrol price war in the UK. So where is the best deal?

Morrison’s cut the price of fuel at the pumps three times last week, and have again lowered prices. From today prices fall below £1 per litre, so a litre of unleaded petrol will cost 99.9p and just over £1 for diesel. However, you will have to spend more than £50 in order to take advantage of these savings.

We suspect that the likes of Asda Tesco and Sainsbury’s will make a move to reduce their prices further, although they already reduced prices by 3 pence per litre last week. It was last year that Asda was king when it came to the cheapest petrol during the price war, and it also happened during the Black Friday period.
