Best laptop for 4K video editing

When looking for a laptop that you will use primarily for video editing, then you need to find one with a lot of horsepower, as it is a hardware intensive task, Not only that, but you also want to find one with a superb screen, and therefore you are better off going for one with a 4K display – especially if you are into 4K video editing.

So now you have established this, this next thing is to try and find that best laptop for 4K video editing. This is something that you should not go into with the assumption of looking for the one that offers the best value, as that can often lead to compromises, such as not having a fast enough processor, or even a hard drive that is not fast enough for the kind of work that you will ask of it.

Ok, so you might be able to get away with a storage device that is not the fastest out there, but you cannot cut corners when it comes to strong discrete graphics, a fast CPU and a higher-end resolution display – well not when it comes to photo or 4K video editing, or creating special effects.

Here is a look at the best laptops for 4K video and photo editing, but not on a budget – The first model that we would like to suggest is the Asus ZenBook Pro UX501VW. We are astounded at the sort of hardware you get for its price, as you get a very sharp 4K display, along with a quad-core Intel Core i7 CPU, a massive 16GB of RAM for those editing tasks, 512GB SSD, and a more than powerful Nvidia 960M graphics. Prices do vary, and so you will want to have a look around for the best deal.

Next up we have the sexy looking Dell UHD XPS 15 with its lightweight carbon-fibre chassis, and a 4K display that makes it perfect for editing 4K content. This also comes with the very same graphics and processor, and even the same amount of RAM and SSD storage. However, this model does come at a price over its 1080p counterpart, and that is only around 6 hours of battery life when using the machine to its full potential, and so try to make certain you are near power outlet.

Another powerhouse of a laptop is the HP Spectre x360 15-ap007na 4K Convertible, which is a little different to the other two in the way that it is much slimmer, and so adds that extra bit of portability to it. Again, it has the same main hardware as the others, and so we are starting to see a bit of a pattern.

If those three are not to your liking, then you could always consider the Lenovo ThinkPad P70. Looking over some reviews we can see that it’s an awesome workstation and has great performance with an accurate 4K screen and long battery life. However, 4K playback issues on those still choosing to run on Windows 7 will be an issue, and so forcing them to Windows 10 might put some people off.

Well, there you have it, our list of a few laptops that we feel are ideal for editing videos, or more importanly those with 4K content.
