Galaxy Gear S3 vs Apple Watch 2nd-gen release anticipation

By Peter Chubb - Aug 6, 2016

It was last September that Samsung unveiled the Gear S2, and so we can only assume that the third generation model will see its launch next month as well. What intrigues us about this are the number of rumours pointing to a September unveil for the Apple Watch 2, and so there is a huge amount of release anticipation for both these devices – although it’s hard to know just which of the two excites us most.

While we cannot be certain of a September release for the Gear S3, it’s easier to say this than presume the Apple Watch 2nd-gen will be released next month. Having said that, all rumours do seem to point to either a September or October release. Having said that, if this were to happen, then Apple are more than likely to use their iPhone 7 event next month to also announce their third generation Watch, and then release it the following month.

Let’s presume for one moment that both these devices will be unveiled next month, then both will have to up their game in order to compete with each other. The rivalry will certainly increase now that Apple has a foothold in the door and will aim to improve on their current design.

Samsung already knows what works well, as they did address a few issues with the S1 and brought new and improved features to the S2, and so we suspect the same will happen with the S3. We presume that Samsung will stick with the classic round design, although make it slimmer and more appealing to the eye. As for the Samsung Gear S3 specs, these could include an optical sensor to the rear, and have improved accelerometers and activity trackers.

As for the Apple Watch second generation, we have already covered what improvements need to be made, but the question still remains, which gets you excited out of these two upcoming devices most?
