From time to time we do go off subject matter a little and look into other recalls that do not cover autos or consumer electronics. We felt we needed to react today since people have been asking about the possibility of a UK IKEA Malm drawers recall.
We can understand why there should be such a concern, seeing as though there have been three deaths in the US beaches of these popular cabinets from IKEA. However, it is worth not in that there is to be no Malm drawer recall in the UK.
It was IKEA themselves that said they are not issuing a recall in the UK or Ireland, only in the USA and Canada. The reason is reported to be because the recall was due to a local voluntary ASTM standard, and so is only applicable in North America.
If you are living in Canada or the US and are concerned, then you need to call Customer Support Centre at 1-800-661-9807 or visit ikea.ca/saferhomestogether for Canada. Or call 1-866-856-4532 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for US customers.
Affected IKEA Malm models are as follows: The 3-drawer, 4-drawer, 5-drawer and 6-drawer models, all of which you can see in the image below, although the entire list can be seen here.
Consumers that have one of these affected models will receive a full or partial refund, or if you still wish to keep the item, then a free wall-anchoring repair kit.
