The latest Olympus action camera has its sights set on rival products from the likes of GoPro, Sony and Nikon, but does the Stylus Tough TG-Tracker have what it takes to compete with these devices aimed at those that love the ability to record in the most extreme circumstances?
Olympus hopes that by adding the addition of an action camera with a bunch of sensors, it will allow its Stylus Tough TG-Tracker to become the ultimate in terms of a field tracker and log camera.
Some of those sensors include a barometer so that the depth and elevation of water can be measured, along with a temperature sensor, GPS and a compass. Add to this an 8MP 1/2.3-inch sensor, and the ability to shoot 4K videos and you do have a decent all-rounder or so it looks on paper.
Who the Olympus Stylus Tough TG-Tracker appeals to most – From what we can see, this action camera might not be catered for skaters etc, but more so towards skydivers, and also sea divers. Having said that, we are not saying that other people will not enjoy using this model, it’s just it would be a waste of the sensors Olympus has added.
Other features that may be of interest to you are its ultra-wide 205-degree field of view, f2 aperture from its seven element lens, 1.5-inch tilt-out screen, along with five-axis stabilization to keep your footage as steady as can be.
Now here is the all-important price, as the Stylus Tough TG-Tracker will cost $349 once released in the US in June.
