Ford F-150 diesel option to rival Ram 1500 EcoDiesel

By Peter Chubb - Jan 29, 2016

The current Ford F-150 light-duty pickup truck only comes with petrol engine options, but a video has been teased giving us the first sounds of a new diesel option. By offering this option to the consumer means that Ford will be able to compete with rival models, such as the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel.

Ford could also go for the Nissan Titan XD, although this would mean they would have to opt for a V8 engine, and most people presume that the carmaker will choose the V6 diesel engine instead.

Going with the V6 option means that Ford will be able to offer a more fuel-effienct F-150, something that many American drivers have been eager to have.

It would be very silly for Ford to put a V8 diesel in its F-150, as that could take sales away from the larger F-250 Super Duty, which already has that diesel V8 option.

As for the F-150 V6 fuel economy, we do not yet have those figures, although they will need to be the same or better than 19 mpg city and 27 highway, which is what the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel achieves.

For those of you that would like proof that the F-150 is getting an oil burner option, then you only have to look at this video.
