The rumors for a new Ford Capri have resurfaced once again, and we can see why that is, as this was a much-loved model in the UK and so a comeback would be truly welcome. We live in an age where old movies are getting a reboot, and mobile phones were once large, then small, now they are getting larger again, and so it makes sense to see some discontinued car models get that same treatment.
We already looked at the prospect of a 2016 Ford Capri being released, but thought we would refresh your memory, as well as the latest developments. Many people in Europe looked at the Capri as a baby Mustang, and there were some powerful models built to make it feel like that, although they were far from being a muscle car.
Ford has been very quiet in regards to a possible new Ford Capri release date, but the likelihood of this happening in 2016 is still very unlikely. Having said that, with the growing number of rumors, there is still a possibility that the new model could make a showing in concept form at one of the many auto shows next year.
Looking at some of the renders, it does look as though the reimagined Capri would share a similar platform to the Ford Mondeo. This would make perfect sense, as this is something carmakers do a lot now in order to save money, and therefore make a possibly release all the more viable.
There had been rumors a few years back that the Capri would make a return, but this had to be put on hold because of the economic crisis in 2009. However, things have improved a lot since then – although with a few blips for certain carmakers along the way. We can see why Ford would want to keep a project like this secret, as it will be such a huge coup for them if they were to announce the launch of an all-new Capri.
Engine options – Ford does have a huge choice of engines that will be available to them for the Capri, such as the 1.0 liter EcoBoost, 1.5 liter EcoBoost, 2.0 liter I4 EcoBoost and the 2.3 liter EcoBoost. We would like to see all these choices if it was released, especially the latter, as that would be a true beast in a small package.
We do find it interesting that there are no official Capri concepts, spy photos, or the vehicle being tested in camouflaged, and so this either tells us there is no such vehicle, or the project still has a long way to go.
