Self-driving DeLorean celebrates Back to the Future day

By Peter Chubb - Oct 21, 2015

When we first saw the DeLorean on our TV screens all those years ago, we never imaged it to become this iconic car, especially as we know the vehicle has a dark history. However, with today being Back to the Future day, you will be surprised at how many people have a new love for the car, such as a team of people from Stanford University.

The team of researchers has taken this troubled, yet iconic car and made it into a self-driving one. Which does seem all the rage at the moment. They could of gone down the usual route of using a more modern vehicle, or one of those small bubble type ones, but no, they wanted to be different, hence why we have the driverless DeLorean.

You can see a video of the DeLorean drifting unaided by a driver in the video below, although there is not much normal driving going on. However, it must be scary to trust the car while being driving in a circle fast while drifting, which is always just about under control, but always on the verge of losing that control.

The researches said that it is all very well creating a vehicle to drive under normal conditions, but there is nothing normal about the DeLorean in the Back to the Future movies, and so something very different had to be done to test the limits.
