You got a few options when it comes to purchasing a big screen LG OLED TV at around 55-inches and it really depends on price if you decide to go 4K as well. The likes of Currys, Argos, Tesco, John Lewis, and Sainsbury’s list a number of LG OLED 55-inch TVs with some prices differing by over £1,000.
The LG 55EC930V is an impressive OLED Curved 3D TV with built-in WiFi and Smart WEBOS. This television started out 2015 with a recommended retail price tag of just over £3000, but that dropped quickly to around £2,299. While this made a worthwhile purchase at the start of the year, now we are in October it’s easy to find the cost of this model has dropped significantly.
Currently the 55-inch LG 55EC930V OLED TV has a price of £1,649 at Tesco and £1,799 at John Lewis, Currys, and Argos. The confusion comes in when consumers think an OLED TV is a massive upgrade to HDTVs and while display quality has certainly improved, there’s different types of OLEDs even by the same brands like LG.
The 55EC930V features a 1920 x 1080 resolution, but another option is LG’s OLED 4K TV with a model of 55EG960V. This Smart Ultra HD 4K TV also has a 55-inch curved OLED screen and looks very similar, but it comes with a picture said to be 4 times the resolution of HD (3840 x 2160). It’s true that some shoppers might feel the difference in quality isn’t worth the price hike, but then there is a lot of difference between LG’s OLED TV and 4K option that tech savvy consumers might notice right away.
LG’s 55EG960V Curved 4K OLED TV has a price of £2,999 at John Lewis and Currys with the latter store discounting another £300 for a trade-in. Neither Tesco or Argos sell this LG 4K TV at this time, but the bottom-line is whether you’d want to pay the extra £1,300 plus to move from OLED to 4K OLED.
We have included a couple of review videos below this article for both the LG 55EC930V OLED TV and 55EG960V 4K OLED TVs. These are from the same reviewer to help you understand the differences between each model, and to help you decide if it’s worth paying more for the 4K OLED.
