Two of the most popular hatchbacks in Europe are the Renault Megane and Opel Astra, or Vauxhall for those living in the UK. These two models have a rivalry that spans years, although the most popular is still the Ford Focus, but this is all about those other two models, as they now have new 2016 models being released.
2016 Renault Megane Vs Opel Astra – These two models were highlighted on the first press day of the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Shows yesterday, and they proved very popular with the media, and it is clear to see that there is no end to this hatchback rivalry.
In terms of design, the Megane comes out the winner because the Astra is more conservative with its smooth lines compared to the more aggressvie styling of Renault’s all-new hatchback. However, when looking at their interiors, which you can see on Auto Express for the Megane and Autoblog for the Astra, we’d have to say that the later wins out.
It is clear to see that Renault has gone for a more dynamic look and to us is the direction that hatchbacks should be going in. However, Opel or Vauxhall have gone down a more premium route, which we do not feel is right, as this should be more for the higher-end sedan models. Hatchbacks are all about fun, and the new Astra seems to lack that.
