Increased Nexus 7, 9 and 10 updates from August 2015

When it comes to Android device updates, it’s the Nexus devices that get the most attention, and that is set to increase even further from this month, as we recently learned that the Nexus 7, 9 and 10 are to get monthly OTA updates from August 2015. The Nexus 4, 5 and 6 will also benefit from these increased Android updates.

One of the biggest issues that hit Android smartphones and tablets is security, and so this had to be one of the major decision factors for releasing monthly updates from now on.

We are not going to see new Android versions every month though, as these monthly updates are to address security issues only. One of the main reasons why these devices have gotten fragmented updates is because of OEMs, as Android has to send the update to the carrier first before the end-user can download it.

Nexus devices have had things a little easier, although are still tied down to these security updates, even though these OEMs have been receiving monthly security bulletins to keep their users safe.

The first of these updates has already started and aims to fix the Stagefright security issue.
