2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Vs original on the track

By Peter Chubb - Jun 19, 2015

Spanning 25 years we have the original Mk 1 Mazda MX-5 Miata pitted against the latest Mk IV model, and in the video you see below you will get to see just how much things have changed. This is not a review to test those advancements and new features, but rather how they compare against each other on track.

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Vs original – You will notice in the video they have called the latest Miata a 2015 model, and while it was manufactured this year, it is actually classed as a 2016 model.

You might wonder why put the old guard against the new when it is obvious which of the two will be the winner, but the older model was given a head start.

While I do find this video interesting because you get to see just how well that 25 year-old model handles, we can’t help think the outcome would have been different if someone with greater driving skills was put in it.

We are not putting the woman down in any way, but it is clear the guy in the newer model has more experience driving fast, as he knew where to place his car, and just how to get the maximum when arriving and leaving those corners.

Interesting that this was done without roll bars in the cars or helmets on the drivers.
