2016 Chevy Volt orders begin today, only one state

By Peter Chubb - May 28, 2015

Good news, orders for the 2016 Chevy Volt begin today, although there is just a small catch, and that is the fact only those of you living in the state of California will be able to pre-order one of these the range-extended electric vehicle.

While residents of California can order one today, May 28, 2015, people in other states will have to wait until August 27, which includes New York, and Massachusetts to name but a few. Having said that, dealers in New Hampshire, Maine, and Oregon have all said they will allow people to order the Volt from August 27 also.

It is not certain why these other states have to wait, although it could be something to do with the thousands of unsold current Chevrolet Volt models. We are not certain what these dealers are going to do with them, but maybe they will use these extra months to run a few sales to sell these older models at heavily discounted prices?

However, surely it will be a hard sell seeing as though this updated version comes with some much-needed improvements? Ok, so we know that $33,170, as well as $825 destination tax is a lot to pay, but there are federal or state incentives to take off that overall price.

It will be interesting to see how popular this new model is, because it is no secret that many of you had your reservations over the current one.

With an average of 1.7 current Volt’s on dealer lots, there is no need to highly discount the Volt further. May sales will exceed 1,000 and there are less than 6,000 Volts available to sell over the next 6 months when the 2016 Volt goes national.
