Finally, it looks like the Apple TV 4th generation will see a release date in the coming year and most likely before summer 2015. We have heard it all before, but this time before Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference we are seeing a few signals and teases that even landed on the invitation for WWDC 2015.
You can see the said invitation below that includes a faint outline of what looks like an Apple TV 4G. While this is currently rumor, it can only really be a new Apple TV or Mac Mini that’s being teased within the invite. Personally, we feel it has to be the Apple TV 4 considering it’s long overdue and other industry sources are also claiming to have insider information.
It’s not the first time Apple has teased a product on press invitations. You might remember these teases for past generation iPhones, colors and numbers signaling features, as well as other hints that turned out to be the real deal.
Insiders claim Apple had been planning to launch their UHDTV to deliver a full big TV experience with Apple branding, but these plans were shelved after the technology company agreed there’s not a lot they can do in this very competitive market. This will be to the disappointment of some fans that love everything with an Apple logo and would love certain patent technology (holographic UIs, 3D gesture interfaces) integrated into an Apple-branded HDTV.
New Apple TV 4th generation release date – the launch is pretty much a done deal, according to leaks and hints anyway. It looks like Apple is choosing to focus on it’s Apple TV 4 set-top streaming device and will launch at WWDC in June, but offer a release date for after this event.
It’s not clear when the release window will be just yet, but considering the crowded fall product lineup it makes sense to set a release date before summer 2015. The end of year lineup includes an expected iPhone 6S, and new iPad mini/Air.
Apple TV 4 specs and price target – rumors point to an increased price due to the current model receiving many cuts, due to its age. You can expect to pay at least £99 in the UK and $99 in the USA, although it could be much more if this is a radical redesign.
You can expect to see a new remote with touchpad input like we’ve seen in concept designs, a much faster processor due to the current models being years old, Siri integration, an App Store just for Apple TV, and maybe even a new subscription service. There’s also hope to see native gaming supported as well in the 2015 model. What would you like to see in the way of Apple TV 4 price, specs, and release date?
