How are you getting on with Mortal Kombat X so far? The game has been available for 24 hours now officially and we can see that many of you are loving every minute of it.
At the same time, we have seen a few of you raise some questions of the Mortal Kombat X DLC policy. Aside from the Kombat Pack which is going to be available, some of you have noticed that Warner Bros is also giving players the option of buying their way further into the game.
By this we mean that you can actually pay $20 to unlock every single thing in the Krypt straight away – no questions asked. Of course this defeats the whole purpose of playing through the story mode and we have to wonder who would actually be willing to go down this route.
For us, we grew up on fighting games such as Killer Instinct, Tekken and the old school Mortal Kombat games were completing story mode would unlock new characters and other content in the game – no extra purchase necessary.
Now of course this doesn’t happen with so many DLC micro-transactions applied to many games and now Mortal Kombat X is falling victim to it as well.
Not only do you have the option of paying $20 to unlock everything early, but you can also pay $5 to activate easy fatalities as well – we’re not kidding.
Again, part of the beauty of Mortal Kombat is mastering the combos and fatality buttons by heart (Cyrax MK3 chopper, HLD BLK, down, down, up, down HP for example), but again you can buy your way out of this if you prefer.
Is this the future of fighting games moving forward? If so, it’s a little scary if you ask us. Give us your thoughts on this, with a friendly debate on whether you see this as a harmless or addition, or a harmful one.
