Sony boasts PS4 Vs Xbox One 2015 sales superiority

By Alan Ng - Mar 4, 2015

Sony has some big news to announce this week, as they have confirmed that as of March 1 2015 the company has now shifted 20.2 million PS4 units worldwide.

If there was any doubt as to which direction the PS4 Vs Xbox One sales war is heading at the moment, Sony look to be in the clear lead for now despite Microsoft’s recent success after announcing some great price cuts during the Holiday season.

Sony made the announcement during GDC 2015, meaning that they have now managed to shift a further 1.7 million units since January – when we last heard some official figures with 18.5 million units sold.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has not announced anything new since November, when we last heard that almost 10 million Xbox One consoles had been sold globally.

Is this a sign to suggest that Sony are well and truly heads and shoulders above Microsoft at the moment in terms of PS4 Vs Xbox One units sold worldwide?

The fact that Sony has given another update in the space of two months suggests that they are supremely confident right now. The amazing value of PS Plus has naturally had a big part to play in helping to turn the tide, whilst also perhaps justifying Sony’s stubborn stance on a lack of a PS4 price cut despite movement from Microsoft.

What is your reaction to 20 million PS4 units sold as of March 1 2015 – are you surprised by this figure, or not so much? Simply put – are you personally happy with your PS4 console purchase so far?

You freaking brain dead XBone fanboys are totally childish & ignorant.
Sony has done nothing but do everything right since E3 2013!
Because of Sony NOT going along with Microsofts intended DRM policies we are now still injoying used games etc, Why in gods name would anyone back Microsofts Xbox division after everything that’s transpired since then???
The XBONE is an app windows ten piece of shite!!!
Looking forward to Bloodborn. The Order was short but very sweet!
I’m not a fanboy & that’s why I’ve jumped ship after the blaton greed Microsoft has shown since its beginning. Indie games are better on PSN, I can send a voice message to my friends on my PS4 can’t do that on a XBone!!! I’ve upgraded my hard drive to the Samsung Seagate 2TB for only a hundred bucks. I’ve also injoyed the exclusive Destiny content on my PS4.
You fanboys need to realize the PS4 is the best console by far this Gen, after all it’s been a freaking year & half now.

I understand what you are saying about the old policy’s, but I prefer xbox. The ability to which Between multiple games and apps without closing them is very convenient. I prefer the Xbox one controller over the Ps4 controller. I’m kinda excited to stream my xb1 games to my pc. xbox ones online service is better. Yes it went down for a few hours on Christmas, but psn was down for multiple days. I don’t just play games so xb1 is 100x better than my roku. The little chat pad at the bottom of the controller is an Improvement from trying to find the chat box on the cord. And since you must not have heard, all the original designers of the Xbox 1 left. Phil Spencer had made the console a lot better with monthly updates. And I have more fun gaming on xbox one. Halo had issues for a while which did suck. But sunset overdrive was super fun and forza horizon 2 is my favorite racing game (besides mario kart 8 lol). Also it’s nice getting call of duty dlc before everyone else. You talked about the hard drive , but you can get external hard drives on xbox one too. And finally if you really don’t consider your self a fan boy after saying, “The XBONE is an app windows 10 piece of shite!!!”….then you need help…

How funny…sony is boasting sales again without a decent exclusive, inferior features, a laughable online service and a dying company. No thanks, I’ll take all the glorious pc exclusives on my xbox one now and 100 billion + pc gamer install base. Xbox is now pc and pc xbox…unified. Oh and ill take great exclisives while the 20 million fools play flops like driveclub and the order and have to wait for PSN to be fixed every week. How comical !

    • PS4 FTW

Imagine how wide the gap will get when Uncharted 4 comes out. Glorious PC exclusives…hahahahahahah…they are yet to get GTAV you fool. Please show me a AAA PC exlcusive tht is not MOBA or MMO. Oh, and if X1 and PC are going to be properly unified, then good luck playing with a controller v KBM. And mind those hacks that even a 4 yo old could apply when gaming on PC. The X1 is dead, so go and pirate your PC games like the rest of the PC community. If you want to compare exclusives, let’s start with the 2013 Game of the Year, The Last of Us.

      • Sinder8

Dead would be sony fool. 2 years max for bankruptcy. Betting on a finacial miracle from a video game console…thats funny. Sony cant even put out an exclusive game worth playing. Flops son….u bet the farm on uncharted like you did on driveclub and the order. And i’ll play microsofts coming beauties starting with fable and these fantastic pc exclusives. Deal…sold !

        • Josh101

“Sony cant even put out an exclusive game worth playing.”

Driveclub is absolutely AMAZING. It has been working fine since launch. No game-breaking bugs, like the MCC collection. The server code was the issue, not the game itself. The game has worked absolutely fine. Especially after the weather patch, completely destroying EVERY racing game that came before it. It’s the best looking racer ever released. Why aren’t you boasting about Titanfall? Oh you forgot about it a week after launch eh? What about Sunset Overdrive? It’s funny, you are talking about Microsoft’s exclusives, but they aren’t made by Microsoft. Microsoft simply money-hatted those games. They aren’t creators. At least Sony is putting out fresh franchises while Microsoft sits and does nothing. Except money-hatting games because they don’t have the talent or the studios to create their own.

          “2 years max for bankruptcy.”

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH HAHAHAH HAHAHA AHHAHA AHAHHAHAHA. You realize that Sony has more than 18 billion in spending cash right? You realize they have BILLIONS in assets? You have any idea how many movie franchises Sony owns? How many music artists they have under their wing? Go home, you’re drunk.

        • dave69uk .

Josh – Why do you care so much about a company that would call security if you walked uninvited into their offices?

        • Josh101

What does this even mean? Why do you defend a anti-consumer company like Microsoft?

        • dave69uk .

Why do you boast about and demand everyone admires Sony?

If you worked for, had shares in, or had some kind of business interest with Sony, I could understand it but I’m assuming you don’t so I don’t understand this feverish concern about a company that sells you a product. If Sony closed its doors tomorrow – would your life end? of course it wouldn’t. If Microsoft sold up and closed – all your prayers would be answered but would your life suddenly be glittering with everything you have ever wanted – No!!
As for your Microsoft pop – you may re-read all of my dialogue and you will see that I do not defend Microsoft, I never have. I dislike people praising a company with almost religious zeal when it exists to make and sell products – to make a profit. There is no other reason Sony exists, so can we stop this ‘Church of Sony’ idea!

        • Josh101

Oh I have given you TONS of reasons why Sony is a good company. ESPECIALLY compared to Microsoft. Microsoft is a horrible company. PRISM scandal says hello. Along with attempting to rape our rights to the first sale doctrine. Targeting ad’s on a pay-for service for nearly a decade. While Sony offered online play on PSP/PSVita/PS2 and PS3 free of charge, without feeding you advertisements. I suggest anyone who reads this post to click on my name and see our exchanges. I will not repost the reasons here.

        • dave69uk .

You will see from above that I wasn’t comparing Sony to Microsoft – that was you, as you always do. There is a bigger picture here but unfortunately you keep it very much focused on Microsoft.

I’m talking about this feverish, frothing at the mouth defence of a large corporation. Good or bad, Sony is a corporation that along with it’s products also buys and sells other companies. They make mistakes, they invest badly at times and they are all in it for the money. They take idea’s from companies they have acquired and use them to make money. It’s simple business – there is nothing religious about it – no need for you to run up and down the road shrieking ‘Sony FTW’ and waving a Sony flag.

Do Sony know who you are – No!
Do Sony give a damn who you are – No!
Is Sony interested in you in anyway – No, Unless your buying their products.
Do you know what is discussed by the Sony Exec’s in their meetings? – No!
Are you 100% sure that Sony have never seriously considered the practices that our much hated Microsoft corporation have tried to (or have) implemented – No!

In short – you have no idea what goes on behind the doors of Sony Corp and all I suggest is, don’t defend someone or something with your soul that you really don’t know.

        • Josh101

You can look up above and see the post in question I was responding to. Which was comparing Microsoft to Sony. You are out of place in the conversation. Yes, Sony does know who I am. I have been a customer of theirs for over 20 years. Had a dispute over a T.V. repair recently. They are well aware of who I am. They do give a damn who I am considering they bent over backwards to keep me as a customer.

“Are you 100% sure that Sony have never seriously considered the practices that our much hated Microsoft corporation have tried to (or have) implemented – No!”

Considered? Yes. Dumb enough to attempt it? Not in the slightest. If Microsoft and Sony were both going to implement these policies. They would have went forth with said policies regardless of what the public said, because they own the market.

“In short – you have no idea what goes on behind the doors of Sony Corp and all I suggest is, don’t defend someone or something with your soul that you really don’t know.”

I don’t have anything to defend. Those in support of Microsoft do. One only has to look at our past conversations to see this is a fact.

        • dave69uk .

Firstly – I’m not following you around on websites. I happened across two of your posts beyond the conversation we here having and to be honest, I was disappointed to see my illusion of a balanced, educated and fair person shattered with both your reply to Sinders and you calling someone an idiot for their freedom of product choice.

So Sony knows who you are based on your details on a database – are you sure you are okay about this?? Sony are keeping your details and you have no idea what they are doing with them!! You have confirmed something I had long suspected by admitting you are a committed Sony customer of 20 years – blinkered corporation adoration. Apple has many customers exactly the same.

So you admit that in the temple of Sony, unsavoury business practices are considered and evaluated! – This actually what was the core point of all my posts. Sony are a corporation and corporations are only here to make money – not furnish you with products to make your life happy, they want to make money – nothing more.

You constantly, constantly bring Microsoft into this as some kind of weapon against me – I AM NOT DEFENDING MICROSOFT…. Lol – Elegance and facts??? You have a very high opinion of yourself and your skills, but you will see that I have not insulted you or done anything other than try and debate a point or attempt to show you a different way to look at something – If this makes you somehow superior to me, then enjoy moment – you are deluded but enjoy it anyway.

“Don’t get pissed off that your perception of the realities are wrong and got proven wrong. That’s all this is. You are mad because I am right and you are wrong.”

Sorry Josh – this is the killer comment I’m afraid – you are now shouting me down by TELLING me you are right and I am wrong. Didn’t Microsoft say similar things to their customers – have you now taken on Microsoft’s approach to democracy? – I’m not mad, all I’m listening to are now the rantings of an Extremist. I selected your posts because I thought you were someone to have an intelligent conversation with but you have really proved me wrong – so in that point, yes, you are right and I am wrong – shame.

        • Josh101

“So Sony knows who you are based on your details on a database – are you sure you are okay about this??”

Yes I am. I don’t do anything illegal and what are they going to do with legitimate complaints on products? Absolutely nothing. Your point is? This in no way compares to what Microsoft has done.

“You have confirmed something I had long suspected by admitting you are a committed Sony customer of 20 years”

Your point? I was a Microsoft committed customer as well. All the way through last generation. Again, what is your point?

“So you admit that in the temple of Sony, unsavoury business practices are considered and evaluated! – This actually what was the core point of all my posts.”

Did Sony come out and say they were going to use DRM? Did they say they were going to lock used games? No, they did not. Once again, If Microsoft and Sony were both planning to implement these policies, they would have went through with it regardless of what the public said. They own the market.

“Sony are a corporation and corporations are only here to make money – not furnish you with products to make your life happy, they want to make money – nothing more.”

All corporations want to make money. You aren’t telling me anything I don’t know. But, I thought we already covered this when Sony offered the PS3 for $600. Which was a PS1/PS2/PS3/DVD/Bluray player for less than the cost of standalone Bluray players. They took a $200 loss on each sold. That’s to KEEP customers? You can’t keep a customer that has not even bought your product.

“You have a very high opinion of yourself and your skills, but you will see that I have not insulted you or done anything other than try and debate a point or attempt to show you a different way to look at something”

Tell me ONE thing I said that was false. Everything I’ve said has been nothing but the truth. Why would I need a different way of looking at something? Let me guess, because it doesn’t affect you? That’s not a legitimate reason.

“Sorry Josh – this is the killer comment I’m afraid – you are now shouting me down by TELLING me you are right and I am wrong.”

Again, tell me ONE thing I’ve said that was false?

Within this very link is a interview with Andrew House which states they never were going to use DRM. There’s also a link in this article that is from the DAY AFTER their February PS4 reveal 2-21-2013 that Sony revealed they would NOT be using any “DRM that blocks used games.” Enjoy!!!!!!!!!! :)

Actually, look at the post at the top of this article. ALOT of Xbox360 fanboys have moved on to the PS4 after Microsoft completely shat on it’s customers. Myself included. Microsoft would love for this not to be the reality, but it is. They have to #dealwithit. I get his overall point and I’m not fanboying it as hard as he is. I am using facts.

        • beylul

“anti-consumer” you just killed me. spot on.

    • Josh101

You do realize there are less than 8 billion people on this planet right? It is literally impossible for PC to have a 100 billion install base. Steam JUST passed 100 million users. While Sony has over 260 million DAU’S. I see you didn’t mention Microsoft with a XboxOne install base of less than 8 million. :) Apparently people are buying up PS4’s left and right while the XboxOne sits lonely on store shelves. The complete hyperbole in your post is what’s comical. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the PSN network. Scheduled maintenance just like any online network, only the difference is, you can still play online as long as you login within 12 hours of the maintenance.

  • Josh101

“Meanwhile, Microsoft has not announced anything new since November, when we last heard that almost 10 million Xbox One consoles had been sold globally.”

Even then, Microsoft only stated “Sold-to” numbers, meaning sold to retailers. They haven’t announced “Sold-through” numbers, meaning sold through to customers, since launch. Sony has confirmed sold-through to consumers at 20.2 million consoles. They are well ahead of Microsoft.

    • Johnny

Really you don’t say? 😲 so glad I got a PS4 instead. Man I feel so good about myself right now. This bit of news just makes my day. 😂

        You don’t have a PS4. 😛

  • Johnny

    Fanboy much?

    • Josh101

Awhh don’t be mad at the facts. 😛
