PS4 update 2.05 or 3.0 with big features rumored

By Alan Ng - Feb 25, 2015

With the surprise PS4 2.04 update that landed a few days ago but offered only more stability improvements, we now look ahead to the PS4 update 2.05 or potential PS4 update 3.0 if Sony are planning to make the next PS4 update a major one.

We know that many of you were disappointed with the last firmware update, especially as it came with huge problems initially when it launched with an error code affecting users globally.

Now that is behind us, there are rumors online suggesting that the next PS4 firmware update is going to be a big one with some new PS4 features to enjoy at last.

Tidux is known for revealing PlayStation leaks in advance and sharing them with users on places like Neogaf. This week, he has taken to Twitter to reveal out of the blue that the next PS4 update will arrive on or around March 29.

Furthermore, he has added that the update coming will be classed as a ‘big’ update and that it will be coming with ‘new features’ – which is music to our ears if true.

Meanwhile, Sony’s Fred Dutton has seemingly hinted towards this update by replying to a user on the PS Blog that the next PS4 update ‘is not too far off’.

Obviously, we don’t want to get carried away but it’s no secret that PS4 users are now overdue on some new functionality for their console – especially given the fact that we’ve just had a major Xbox One update.

There’s also a fairly long list of missing PS4 features that Sony needs to implement – DLNA, folders and Friends notifications to name some of the obvious ones.

Assuming that the next PS4 update is going to bring new features, Sony may decide to bring the console up to version 3.0 to coincide with it being a ‘major’ update.

Let us know your thoughts on the next PS4 update and what features you are personally waiting to see. We’ll update you whenever we find out any more rumors on the next firmware.

Allow to record party chat while youre recording just with your ps4 !!!

Have you noticed since the last update, 1.04 that the details in games have improved? Before the textures were very detailed, now they pop out! Also the lighting in games looks more realistic too.

  • Gareth Hughes

Suspend and resume. This feature was one of their main selling points and it’s still not implemented

  • Cash Up

    Just add more like Xbox

  • Cash Up

That’s the main thing they have. The look please step it up

  • Cash Up

Please do two things at once

  • Cash Up

    Watch TV and game

    • Gareth Hughes

I don’t understand how someone can play a game and watch tv at the same time. I gotta dedicate my concentration on just one thing.
Mind I do agree about the 2 things at once. Like not having to leave and snap party like on the Xbox.

      • Steven Johnson

I agree… when I was watching XBOX reveal, they banged on about this feature, not something I get to be honest. If I’m gonna play a game, I will just play and vice versa when watching TV.

  • me

My ps4 allows me to play my games. There is nothing more i want/need from it.

    • Theodore Po

well a few million others expected the PS4 to do more than the PS3 did. When you buy a car do you expect it to have more or less features than the one you bought 5-7 years ago. Buying a PS4 was like me going back wards to no power steering, no ABS, and only an AM/FM radio. We deserve more.

      • NgTurbo

Isn’t Share Play power steering? Great analogy btw! :)

        • Theodore Po

Share play to me is like the expensive undercoating the dealer tries to sell you that you don’t really want.

I might not be the right demographic for some of the new features though. Being over 30 I was expecting to move my PS4 into my living room as the centerpiece of my media hub, instead its relegated to the den, the PS3 is still king (with a little WDTV box) in my living room.

        • Danny2013

What is it with you and cars? You compare everything to cars. lmao

        • Theodore Po

My first comment made the car analogy, NgTurbo replied using the same comparison, hence my reply followed up. Pretty straight forward, try to keep up.

        • Josh101

“Share play to me is like the expensive undercoating the dealer tries to sell you that you don’t really want.”

This doesn’t even make sense as a “analogy.” It was a feature that was added in for free. You didn’t have to pay for the addition of Shareplay. You make absolutely no sense…

        • Theodore Po

Thanks for coming out. Making a metaphorical connection between the PS and vehicles was straightforward and simple. I guess you’re just simple.

        • Josh101

……Seriously? When you buy a car, it is feature complete. Everything that car will be, is what it is when you buy it. You can pay for additional features like power windows, power seats, power locks etc. The car manufacturer doesn’t give you monthly updates adding features for free. The PS4 will continuously get updates, adding features, for free. Again, your analogy doesn’t make sense. Trying to be a smartass, when you are wrong only makes you look like a idiot. Good job….WOW LMAO

        • Theodore Po

Think of it this way, if you were to buy a car today to replace the car you bought in 2007 wouldnt you expect it to have new and better features along with the basics that existed in your previous car? Yes.

I bought my PS4 in September expecting it would have all the PS3 had plus new and better features.

          This is the analogy.

The OP suggested that the Share play feature was this new and better feature.

I replied, again using the car analogy, that share play was like a feature on a new car that you wouldn’t want (undercoating, what your dealer tries to push on you ). I would have preferred DNLA support.

          Simple.

        • Alex

You do know the PS3 had updates to improve it and make it what it is today, right? The PS4 is no different, give it some time.

Your analogie still doesn’t make sense, as the PS4 is a big upgrade as to what the PS3 was at its launch. PS4 is missing a few silly functions that will come as updates, (at no cost to owners) adding wanted features. You don’t have to upgrade to a new machine for it to receive them.

You should get an Xbox One, as you seem to be looking for an all in one media machine, it was advertised as one, the PS4 wasn’t.

          Do your research. Simple.

        • Gareth Hughes

I would of just bought a chrome cast and not put a ugly console in my living room. Atleast ya can’t see a chromecast

        • Josh101

“if you were to buy a car today to replace the car you bought in 2007 wouldnt you expect it to have new and better features along with the basics that existed in your previous”

Yet the PS4 does have new additions from the previous system. Backround downloading, play-as-you-download. You can now exit ANY app or game and answer messages and then go back to what you were doing. Party chat. Remote-play any game using a PS Vita. I could really keep going. The only thing it is missing is DLNA and like friend notifications.

“I replied, again using the car analogy, that share play was like a feature on a new car that you wouldn’t want (undercoating, what your dealer tries to push on you ). I would have preferred DNLA support.”

That’s where you analogy doesn’t work bro. It’s not something that you had pushed on you and had to pay MORE for. It came as a free update. Cars do not get free upgrades. A undercoating on a car, costs more, the addition of Shareplay didn’t cost you a single penny.

        • Josh101

When your analogies don’t even make sense it’s hard to “keep up.” You make horrible analogies. Just stop trying to make them, it’s not something you understand fully..

        • Gareth Hughes

You sound like you need a chrome cast. They only £30. A console to me is just playing games on and some spotify if ya fancy music which ps4 is getting

      • Josh101

This in particular, doesn’t make sense. The PS3 as it is today is NOTHING like it was at launch. They added the features in firmware updates. The PS4 will not be the same in 5 years as it is today. So again, your analogies make absolutely no sense. Car’s don’t get continuous updates for free via firmware updates……..

        • len

Umm welcome to the new age bro, cars do get firmware updates, and are free *Tesla*

        • Josh101

Not in the same fashion as console updates. Which improve performance of the console. A car is not the same as a computer. Which get updates that make it run efficiently and faster. No firmware update will boost the capabilities of a car and make it move faster. For example: A firmware update for a car will not make manual windows magically power windows.
