Toyota recalls 2014 FJ Cruiser, but not for airbag

By Peter Chubb - Feb 7, 2015

Toyota USA has issued a recall notice for its 2014 FJ Cruiser SUV, although before you think this is yet another of those airbag recalls, then you will be mistaken. It would seem there is an issue with the steering, which could fail and cause a serious accident.

What’s the problem – Toyota say that there is an intermediate shaft that connects the steering wheel and the steering gear box to each other. However, it would seem that in some cases these were not welded correctly, and so could cause a failure.

Car Recalls says that there have been no reported accidents or injuries, which is a very good thing indeed. Having said that, this is still a cause for concern and could lead to a serious accident if left unchecked.

It is for this reason that you correspond to a letter you may receive from Toyota, as they are to send letters out by fist class mail to affected owners.

If you are concerned your 2014 FJ Cruiser is to be recalled and are worried that you could be driving an affected model, then you can always head to Toyota’s recall page and enter your VIN in. For further details please contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.
