Groundhog Day 2015 app advises on activities

By Peter Chubb - Feb 2, 2015

Today is Groundhog Day 2015 and we know there are a great number of activities planned for today, before and after the main event. Later today we will get to see if Staten Islanders will be in for more wintery weather, or if things will begin to become much warmer.

Proceedings begin at 7 a.m. local time, although gates at the Staten Island Zoo will open half hour earlier. However, the main event takes place at 7:30 a.m.

We are sure you pretty much know this already, although we know that you will wonder why we are talking about Staten Island when the biggest Groundhog Day celebration is held in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania? Crowds can often reach more than 40,000 there, so if you are visiting that area, then we advise you pay a visit.

As for other events and activates, you could always check out the Groundhog Day Toolkit 2015 app. There are not too many apps of this kind offering information on this yearly event, and so with the lack of completion the developer has been a little sloppy.

We would have liked to have seen a cleaner design, although the app does just what it needs to do, and that is offer a countdown, more than 200 historic predictions for those that are in to that sort of thing and a Whack-a-Groundhog game.

One piece of advice, this is the official Groundhog Day Countdown app for Kitsilano, Vancouver, British Columbia.
